《Angel Academy》CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

I crashed onto a hard surface far to quickly and was engulfed by something warm wrapping around me. I cracked open my eyes to see... Shade?
"Games not over yet Princess" he grinned, looking down at my bewildered face.
Shade saved me? who knew he had it in him. I attempted to sit up at the same time his dragon, Incendro tilted speedily to block an oncoming blast of dragon fire. I groaned at the pain of the arrow and looked up at Shade who was still clutching onto me as if his life depended on it.
Incendro swerved again and Shade tightened his grip making me cry out in pain as the arrow shifted around in the open wound.
"Do you mind?" I asked in a raspy voice.
He looked down at me with concern until his eyes landed on the arrow.
"Oh, yeah... sorry," he said snapping off the end of it.
We dipped down and then scored back up into the air, making it extremely difficult for Shade to hold onto me and remove the arrow. I did my best to force myself into an upright position, leaning my head onto his shoulder, I clamped my jaw together to resist the urge to scream out in pain and gripped his arm tightly.
He yanked the arrow out of my shoulder carefully and threw it down towards the ground, the pain immediately lessened and I pulled back and thanked him.
I quickly called Obsidian, who was probably searching the ground for me and watched impatiently as my shoulder healed thanks to the protective borders and both my vampire and werewolf sides.
"Thanks," I said awkwardly as Shade grinned in my direction.
"I guess you owe me" he replied smugly as he handed me back the flag.
I rolled my eyes at him and shook my head just as Obsidian's loud roar sounded below us. Incendro turned sharply again, but this time I allowed myself to fall directly onto Obsidians back, still clutching onto the flag.
As soon as I landed on his back we soared up through the chaos, straight towards Jackson, who was a Guardian. I turned obsidian completely sideways gripped on to him as tightly as I could with my left hand and held the flag in my right.

We squeezed through two Assailants and passed Jackson the flag successfully. I was passing for just enough time to see his amazed face as he took in our technique. I smiled to myself and continued to race around, teaming up with the others to steal the flags efficiently, and pass them to the guardians.
The finishing bell sounded, signalling the end of the game and all sorts of chants and cheers sounded from the crowd. I looked around frantically to try and see who had won but immediately knew that we had when my eyes fell on Axel.
A humungous smile was spread on his face and he punched the air with his right fist, and turned towards Felix, winking playfully at his scowling face.
We had actually done it, we won the game.
I flew behind Axel, with Chase by my side as we descended towards the ground. We all landed with a small thud and formed a straight line.
The clapping and cheering became louder filling me with a sense of pure pride, I wasn't sure about joining the team at first but I'm grateful that I did. To be a part of something so special was among the best feelings in the world.
We dismounted from our dragons and began to form another line in front of them, I noticed that Axel groaned in pain as he jumped down from Nacendra and limped heavily as he attempted to walk. I swiftly ran over to him and placed his arm around my shoulder for support, Chase also noticed us and did the same the other side.
"What happened?" I whispered.
"Arrow" he replied with a grunt. "the borders should heal it soon"
I nodded my head. Axel was not a vampire or werewolf hybrid so he would heal off the protective borders alone so it takes far longer for him to heal.
We took him to the centre of the line and watched gleefully as he was handed the trophy that now had the House Air logo upon it, as well as Axel's name positioned under team captain. He held it up in the air and shouted happily, causing everyone, including us to join in.
After the Fire team had left the arena, we followed after them with beaming faces. We dropped Axel off at the medical wing before heading back towards the tables to meet the others.

"Well done!" squealed Verity, engulfing me in a tight hug.
"You guys were awesome!" exclaimed Zack who had his arm wrapped around Sylvia.
I smiled joyfully as my heart warmed at the sight. I also noticed that Elizabeth aka Lizzy, sat a few feet from Max, as soon as she saw Chase she got to her feet and ran over to him.
"I'm glad your all ok," she said happily.
She hugged Chase lightly making his cheeks turn a rosy red, she then grabbed his hand and pulled him over to sit next to her. Noticing that Max was sitting rather awkwardly by himself, I moved to sit down next to him.
"Are you ready for the next class?" I asked, stealing one of his fries.
"I suppose so, I just don't like the idea of killing our friends" he replied honestly.
I took what he said into consideration and my heart sank. He was right, this wasn't like fighting demons, we were going to have to fight our own friends to the death. I know that they cannot actually die but you were still technically killing them.
"I know, it's a stupid tradition," I said looking up into his soft chocolate eyes.
He nodded his head in agreement and slid the tray of fries closer to me.
"You and Shade are the best warriors in our year, so I'll be surprised if you two don't make it to the top," said Max pulling a stray leaf from my hair.
"Even if you do manage to beat my amazing skill, are you sure that you are gonna be able to kill me? " asked Shade cockily as he sat down beside me.
"Of course! I've been waiting for a chance to kill you since the first time I saw you" I replied with an evil smirk.
He tapped his hand to his heart and faked hurt.
"You know you love me really" he claimed, a pout forming on his face.
"Keep telling yourself that" I grinned.
I watched as he continued to fake hurt in amusement, it was crazy to think that I literally couldn't stand the sight of this boy not long ago, I had convinced myself that he was some super serial killer in his spare time or something but it turns out that he really was just an idiotic, sarcastic, arrogant asshole, who became less of an idiotic, sarcastic, arrogant asshole when you got to know him. Although, some things still didn't add up, but to be honest, I was too scared to ask him about it, the possibility that the answer could make things go back to the way they were scared the hell out of me.
instructed Mr Albern with his insanely magnified voice.
"I guess we should make our way over there," said Zack, removing his arm form Sylvia's shoulder.
He stood up and held out his hand for her to take, she took it instantly and they began to walk the direction of the combat ring. Shade got to his feet and grinned widely mimicking Zack's actions, holding his hand out to me.
"Princess," he said in an overdramatic, old fashion accent.
I rolled my eyes and grabbed his hand, but instead of using it to pull myself up, I pulled him to the ground and got to my feet by myself.
"Thank you" I chimed sarcastically as I stepped over his body.
He let out a loud groan and grabbed my foot and pulled me down to the floor, making me face plant into the soft grass.
"No problem" he chuckled, stepping over me, mirroring my previous actions.
I pushed myself to my feet in shock at his quick reaction and used my vampiric speed to catch up to him and whack him on the back of the head.
"Ow," he moaned rubbing the spot where I hit him.
I looked at his annoyed face and burst out laughing, his hair was sticking up in all directions and there was a big mud mark on his left cheek. I pointed to it in response to his questioning look and he scrubbed it away quickly, narrowing his eyes at me.
Orpheus and Max came up either side of us and Shade cleared his throat and ran a hand through his hair to straighten it back out.
"I guess we will finally get a chance to kill each other" voiced Shade, looking over to Orpheus.
"I guess we will" he replied confidently.
