You were sitting on the couch, Remus sitting next to you with his arm around you, James and Sirius sitting on the floor in front of you and Peter on a chair across the room. You were all laughing at something James had said. Plates of eaten cookies and empty pints of ice cream littered the floor along with bottles of soda. You were finally smiling and laughing, it took hours to get your mind off of what Severus did today.

“Thank you guys for doing this. It means a lot. I shouldn’t be this upset, we weren’t even together anymore. We were on a break, I thought we were going to get back together, or maybe I thought we both kind of silently decided we’d wait for each other but I guess he thought differently.” You told the boys. “I don’t understand how you’re so okay with this. You’ve been obsessed with Lily for years.” You said looking at James.

“I know apparently we were both fooled.” James answered calmly.

“It’s all just so strange. It seemed to come out of nowhere.” You sighed. “Oh well, time to move on I guess. I am kind of mad that I didn't get to go to Hogsmead for the first time today.”

“It’s only Saturday, we can all go tomorrow.” Sirius suggested.

“Yeah I need to go to HoneyDukes. I’m running low on chocolate.” Remus added which made you chuckle.

“What would you do without your chocolate?” You teased.

“Oh, I’d go through the worst withdrawal and would most likely become a full fledged werewolf before the full moon set in the sky.” He chuckled, making the rest of you laugh.

“I’d love to go to Hogsmeade tomorrow.” You told them.

A few more minutes passed and the conversation shifted to something else. James and Sirius were fooling around and you were all laughing at them. You and Remus sat there throwing popcorn at them out of the bowl that sat on both of your laps. You took a piece and instead of throwing it at James and Sirius you threw it at Remus.

“Oh, you’re gonna pay for that.” He laughed, throwing a handful at you. You gasped and took the entire bowl and dumped it over his head. He grabbed your sides and started tickling you. Between you laughing and thrashing in his arms and James and Sirius wrestling on the floor no one heard the common room door open. The sound of a throat being cleared caught all your attention as you looked to see the 4 people standing in the doorway. Severus for some reason looked genuinely hurt and for a moment you couldn’t figure out why until you saw the position you and Remus were in. He was basically laying over you and you were both panting from the laughing you were doing. But why did you care if he was hurt? He hurt you.

“What are you all doing here? This is not your common room.” James snarled, getting to his feet along with Sirius who noticed Severus’ eyes on you the whole time.

“Don’t look at her. You have no business looking at her, you have no business being here after what you did.” Sirius yelled at Severus.

“He hasn’t done anything and you know it. This was all your doing.” Lucius spat at the trio.

“What are you all doing here?” You asked, getting off the couch and walking towards the group, making sure not to make eye contact with Severus.

“Y/N, I did not kiss Lily, not willingly you have to believe me. I would never do that to you. I told you that you were the one I wanted, that I would never give up on you and that was true.” Severus pleaded for you to believe him.

“Severus, I saw you. I watched you, it didn’t look like she was forcing you. You kissed her and you know what I have no right to be mad at you. We are not together, we were on a break and I guess I thought that we were still exclusive to one another but I was wrong. We aren’t together, you have every right to be with Lily if that’s what you want but don’t you dare lie to me. I stood by you, I fought for you, I defended you so if you don’t wanna be with me fine but don’t lie. I deserve more than that.”

“We are exclusive, I don’t want anyone else. I don’t care about Lily, I haven’t since you came into my life. I promise you.” He scrambled to explain.

“Y/N, your brother and Black convinced Lily to slip Severus a love potion during breakfast. When she bumped his drink this morning she slipped him a dose of Amortentia that I believe James and Sirius got from yours and Severus’ cauldron in Slughorn's room.” Lucius explained.

“We noticed he wasn’t looking well after you left to get changed to go to Hogsmead and we brushed it off at first but when we saw him kissing Lily and then the way he was talking. Me and Lucius went to Slughorn and got an antidote for Amortentia and it worked. You know I would not lie to you, if Severus was in the wrong then I would tell you but this was not his fault.” Narcissa added.

“This is pathetic, that’s your excuse. Blame and Sirius because you gotta kiss the girl you have been obsessed with since first year.” James chuckled.

“Think about it, Y/N. Do you honestly think James would let Lily go that easily? If Lily decided to leave James for Severus we all know his first move would be to find Severus and Hex him to high heaven. He wouldn’t be sitting here with you hanging out with all his friends. He wouldn’t let it go!” Regulus chimed in.

It took a moment but thinking back to this morning you had to agree. Severus was fine all morning until Lily came by. The last thing you remember before leaving to change was Lily almost knocking over Severus’ pumpkin juice but somehow being able to grab it before it fell. Almost as if she knew it was going to fall.

They were also right when they said about Jame. He wouldn’t be this calm if he knew things between him and Lily were over. He’s loved her for as long as he’s known her, if she really did choose Severus James would lose his mind. He would be on the verge of trying to kill Severus. He wouldn’t stop himself so he could spend the day comforting you.

“Please tell me you didn’t.” You turned back to your brother and Sirius. They were silent almost like they knew they were caught and nothing they could say would change your mind.

“Oh you have got to be kidding me!” Remus yelled. “I really thought you gave up on this stupis attempt to break them up. How far are you going to take this until you see that you’ve taken it too far? She cares for him, she is happy with him, she is safe with him. As her older brother that is supposed to be all you care about! Not the fact that he’s in a different house than you. This is school, it’s houses, they do not define us!” Remus screamed at the duo as he stood with the group Slytherins.

“They are not good people, Moony. They shouldn’t be anywhere near my sister. I’m just trying to keep my sister safe like you said.” James replied as if it was obvious what he was doing.

“She is old enough to make these choices on her own and if she gets hurt then we’ll deal with it then but until then leave them alone. He has proven that he means her no harm and all your doing is hurting her by trying to keep him away. If you truly care about her then you will let them be together if they decide that;s what they want. There is no scenario in this where you get what you want.” Remus snarled, growing tired of his games.

“Whatever. We did what he thought was best as her brother, that is my job.”

“And as your friend and her best friend it’s my job to tell you that you are wrong about everything. Back off.” Remus spat.

“I can’t believe you did this then sat here with me all day acting like you did nothing wrong. How could you do that? How could you hurt me so bad then pretend like it wasn’t you. Did it not bother you that I was crying and sobbing? You could have taken the pain away anytime you wanted if you just told me the truth but you decided you’d rather see me hurt.” You cried. “I was just starting to trust you again. I wanted to trust you again!”

“I’m trying to keep you from getting hurt worse down the road. This relationship won’t end well Y/N. Whether it's because he breaks your heart or because he is going to graduate this year. I don’t want to see you go the entire school year together just to have your heart broken when he leaves.” James explained, stepping closer to you but you simply stepped back into Severus’ chest.

“My love life is none of your business James. If me and Severus decide to be together or not isn’t your business. If me and Severus decide to have a long distance relationship after he graduates it’s none of your business and if we decide to go our separate ways after he graduates it’s still none of your business.” You growled.

“Y/N I’m sorry, I’m just trying to do what I think is right. We both were.” He motioned to Sirius.

“You hurt me, again. I don’t want your help. I don't want you to look after me because you have done a shitty job so far. I’m sleeping in the Slytherin dorms tonight. I can't even look at you right now.” You scoffed.

“Come on, you can sleep in some of my clothes.” Severus urged you towards the exit. You and Severus left first and Lucius, Narcissa and Regulus walked behind you to make sure none of them tried to follow.

When you got back to the dorms you told Regulus, Narcissa and Lucius goodnight. Lucius was going to sleep in Narcissa’s dorm tonight so Severus and you could talk things out. When you got inside Severus’ dorm he gave you a pair of shorts and a tee shirt to wear. After you both got changed you settled into bed.

“What does this mean for us?” Severus finally broke the silence.

“I’m not angry at you, this was not your fault.” You replied.

“Do you think we’ve been on this break long enough?” He asked awkwardly.

“I think you have learned to trust me and I am taking my potions and doing better with my eating which is what we were working on and why we took the break in the first place. I’m ready to try again if you are.” You explained.

“I want to try again.” Severus confirmed.

“Then it’s settled.”
