《deal [M. ATSUMU]》11 ♪ Soaked

you felt the cold liquid splash on you from above. "what the hell?!" you screamed at the sudden touch of cold water. you shuddered when cool air blew pass you, it didn't help that it was already so late making it extra chilly.
you heard a girl's laughter from above followed by the sound of footsteps fading. probably one of his fangirls, you thought. you hissed, irritated that you had to go home drenched in water. you started to walk down the staircase to go to your classroom to pick up your bag so you could finally go home. as you were walking, you wondered if things would start to get worse from here.
"why did i even agree with all this..." you mumble, referring to the deal you had with atsumu, while hugging your torso to keep yourself warm. you opened the door to the room and grabbed your bag then left soon after.
you didn't see anymore students around the campus, you couldn't blame them though. it was already so dark out that you'd be surprised if someone still actually stayed behind. you were thankful from the lack of people though, or they would've seen your poor state.
"[L/N]?" you were staring at the ground so you didn't see the person who was in front of you. when you looked up you were surprised to see who it was.
"suna?" the taller boy furrowed his brows at your state. he noticed your drenched hair and clothes, then immediately looks away when he saw your soaked uniform.
you tilted your head in confusion when he looked away. "what is it?" you asked. suna lets out a small sigh and said nothing, he didn't want to point out that ge could almost see your undergarments through the wet blouse. he took the maroon jersey off of him and wraps it around your shoulders.
"you might be cold..." he didn't look directly at you, but you could tell that he was genuinely worried.
you smile at his thoughtfulness and brought his jersey closer to your body for warmth. "thank you suna."
"no worries." he gave you a quick glance but looks away soon after.

"don't practice usually end before seven? why are you still here?" you asked since it was already past seven, so you didn't expect any of the volleyball club still roaming around campus.
"i was too busy stopping atsumu from practicing. he's been there for thirty minutes now." he turns his head toward the direction of the gym.
"he's still practicing this late?" you thought he went home without you since you didn't see him after class. "why?"
"beats me." he shrugged. "osamu tried to stop him too, but clearly that didn't work. he just went home."
"i'll go see him." you told him and started walking towards the gym. "that stupid idiots probably over working himself." you clicked your tongue in annoyance.
suna never failed to not notice the worry hinted in your voice. he couldn't help but to feel envious of atsumu out of nowhere. he knew about the deal you made with atsumu, he heard the twins' conversation about it earlier. honestly, he wasn't surprised. atsumu was more than likely to fake date someone than actually date them, the boy never took anyone seriously. that's why suna started to worry about you, worry that you'd end up like the other girls he had a fling with. he didn't want that to happen, specially not to you.
"i'll go with you." he says, following behind you. you looked back at him and grinned, "thanks suna."
"rintaro is... fine."
"okay then rintaro-kun, call me [Y/N]!"

still not good. this is not enough. it's still so bad. for every toss he did that was all that clouded his mind. it's not good enough, it's still sloppy. i still need to get better.
"damn it!" he aggressively threw the ball out of irritation. he was too occupied today, his mind was a mess. he hated it, he couldn't focus.
all he could think about was you.
atsumu picked up another ball and tossed towards the water bottle, but he missed again. he cursed under his breath then looked for a ball to try again, but a hand picked it up before he could.

"oi. you should rest." the voice told him. he looked up to see your drenched figure, some strands of your hair was still dripping with water. your skirt was damp but the jersey enveloping you hid your wet blouse.
jersey? whose jersey was it? it wasn't his that's for sure.
"what–" atsumu was about to ask what happened to you but all that came out of his mouth was, "what are you doing here?" he harshly grabbed the ball from you and turned back.
"taking you home, what else?" he heard your footsteps following him.
"go home." was all he said and tossed once again, but missing the bottle by mere centimeters.
you rolled your eyes at his stubbornness. "you can practice again tomorrow, let your body rest for now smartass. you're tired."
"don't go decidin' what's good for me [Y/N]." he picked up another ball, throwing it again.
"stop being so stubborn atsumu." you began to get annoyed. he was clearly tired from the amount of times he's been practicing, so why can't he just stop and listen to his body for once? "look, you can just–" your hand reached out for his shoulders.
"then stop being so annoyin'! you're nothin' more than a fake so stop pretendin' like yer worryin' 'bout me!" he swung his arm back, not expecting it to hit you making you stumble backwards, falling down to your bottom. he didn't expect his voice to be so loud as well, it echoed throughout the gym shocking him and you.
his eyes widened at his actions. you didn't move from your position for a second, still in shock of what happened. his anger got to him, you knew that. you knew he didn't mean hitting you, it wasn't on purpose.
was it?
"[Y-Y/N]–" atsumu stuttered. before he could reach out to help you, he was pushed back harshly by someone making him move a step away from you.
"that's enough atsumu." suna glared at the blonde. "i'll take her home."
atsumu could only watch suna help you stand up. so that's where she got the jersey from, he thought. he balled his fists and walked away from the gym, making sure not to turn his gaze back to the both of you again.
why couldn't he just apologize to you? why did he have to let suna take you away like that? heck, why was he even there? he didn't mean to hit you and it was accidental and he wished that never even happened. he wished he just listened to you to begin with, he was too much of a prick to realize that you were just worried for him.
why can't i just get her out of my head?

"well... this is my stop." you halted right outside your house. suna stopped walking beside you and stared for a moment.
"are you okay?" he asked.
"yeah, i'm fine rintaro don't worry." you gave him a small smile in hopes of convincing him. the walk with suna home was silent, no one dared to say anything. especially you, you just weren't in the mood for talking.
"thank you for bringing me home. oh, and here." you took the jersey he lent you off. "thanks for this as well, kept me real warm."
he grabs the jersey from your grip and smiled. "anytime." he brought his hand to your damp hair and ruffles it. "i'll be here if you need anything, [Y/N]."
your eyed widened at what he did. you would've never expected suna to smile since he always displayed his usual monotone expression. he retracted his hand back to his side.
"i'll see you tomorrow!" you waved goodbye to him and entered your house. as you were locking the door, you notice suna had just started to walk away.
"then stop being so annoyin'! you're nothin' more than a fake so stop pretendin' like yer worryin' 'bout me!"
the happenings from earlier replayed in your mind, atsumu's voice echoing throughout. you closed your eyes and took a deep sigh, finally letting his words hit you.
"and just when i thought you were different atsumu miya..." you mumbled to yourself, not even realizing that you passed out at the entrance of your house.

The Ingress Estate
Jonathon Eucole. Soldier. Scholar. Now an Initiate, the dedication without dedication, he finds himself both prisoner and master of an arcane edifice, the Ingress Estate, which can neither be escaped, nor controlled; only diverted, maintained, and pacified. This is a gothic fantasy story, set in a world in which gods and the afterlife are not only real and known, but were both established in living memory of some of the inhabitants after millennia of arcane warfare with the being who constructed the mundane reality the humans occupy. But this isn't the story of those who colonized the afterlife at the cost of their own humanity, but a somewhat more ordinary man, in somewhat extraordinary circumstances. This is also a LitRPG-lite, which means there's a system of sorts, fragments of which can be observed through Jonathon's eyes. Don't expect level-up screens, or statistics, or indeed numbers much at all, beyond those the inhabitants of the world itself apply to understanding their own reality. It pretty much doesn't matter to the story, I mention it so those who don't want to read LitRPG at all can successfully avoid it here. I don't have any particular plan here, just some ideas inherent in the genre. This is a character concept I toyed with some years ago; an old man, bright of mind but weighed down into apathy, both by his past and his responsibilities for a terrible estate that cannot be left without stewardship. Don't expect any kind of overarching plot or story, because that's really not what this is about. Also don't expect much dialogue. Or character development. Or much of anything, really, because I've planned nothing in the way of an actual book, here. Other relevant information, if you've read this far for some reason: The MC isn't super-powerful to begin with, and probably never will be. He's a veteran with some useful skills, and the insight on how to use them, so can deal with the world's ordinary threats reasonably well, but not too much beyond that. --- Currently on hiatus, as currently the story has a rather poor ratio of effort-to-personal-payoff. I may return to this once I have a clear idea of how to get the stories where I want them. I've started a more standard LitRPG using the same system. But if you like intelligence characters who cleverly min-max their classes, it probably isn't the story for you; it's the story of a rather ordinary guy who winds up in a very similar universe.
