"It's getting pretty late, I think we should be heading back by now." (Kiyotaka)
"Ehhh, it's only 5pm though." (Kei)
"Yeah, but we don't want to get back at the dorms too late." (Kiyotaka)
"Nope, not happening! I told you I planned the whole day our right? And you promised to not quit halfway through!" (Kei)
"But-" (Kiyotaka)
"Not buts! I still plan for us to have fun together until at least 7pm!" (Kei)
"But what if other people see us? We wanted to keep our relationship a secret, remember?" (Kiyotaka)
"It's fineeee, I already invited one of my friends to make sure that we don't look suspicous." (Kei)
"That's nice and all, but what about the people that saw us together earlier, and especially me calling you an angel and such?" (Kiyotaka)
"We'll just say that I was just asking you to ask me to help choose an outfit for going out with my friends since you're always so neutral and don't have any bias." (Kei)
"You have insurance, I see." (Kiyotaka)
"Of course I do! I've spent so much time around you after all..." (Kei)
I didn't expect her to start growing this fast. From just being around me for a little under a year, she's already picked up certain traits of mine, she really will be an indispensable person in Class D soon. I'm really proud of her for being able to live freely, without the shackles of her past.
"That aside, who is the friend you invited?" (Kiyotaka)
"Matsushita-san" (Kei)
This might not be good. Matsushita was suspicious of my relationship with Kei already, but I told her it was because I confessed to her. However, having her see us like this would give rise to more suspicion.

"Is there a problem with her?" (Kei)
"No, not really." (Kiyotaka)
"Sounds like your lying. I can see it in those emotionless eyes of yours. If you want to lie, do it better, I've been with you since the cruise exam you know?" (Kei)
"Looks like I've been caught. Well the thing is... Matsushita was suspicious of our relationship... so I..." (Kiyotaka)
"You?" (Kei)
"I may have told her I confessed to you and that you had rejected me." (Kiyotaka)
"Wait wait wait. Y-You DID WHAT?!" (Kei)
"I told her that I confessed to you and that you had rejected me, and that's why you would give me occasional glances during class." (Kiyotaka)
"No no. I know that, but WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!" (Kei)
"I didn't want her to keep digging further so I used the most believable lie." (Kiyotaka)
"Oh my god, this is gonna be so awkward... how am I supposed to explain why I'm out with the guy I rejected?!" (Kei)
"Good question." (Kiyotaka)
"Not good. She's already on her way here. Do you have any excuses planned?" (Kei)
"None." (Kiyotaka)
"Honestly, how can you be so smart and dumb at the same time? You can win against Ryuuen in a fight and have us win every special exam, but you can't understand the most basic thing about human relationships. It's like you were raised in a facility like those manga." (Kei)
She doesn't know it, but she's exactly right...

Maker of Fire
On a world where magic kept civilization firmly in the bronze age, the Gods dropped an accountant and a mining engineer to start a political and industrial revolution. They wanted enlightened governance and a fast track to the iron age. They got indoor plumbing, paper airplanes, a cranky queen, and one very grumpy prophet. Dramatis Personae Aylem was a bookkeeping student when she died. The Gods reincarnated her as the greatest mage ever known, born into the ruling class of gigantic, magic-wielding humans. The Gods expect her to conquer the world and introduce double-entry accounting. Though Queen and numerical reformer, world conquest is stalled because everyone is scared of her and she doesn't like war. Emily was a retired engineer when she died. The Gods reincarnated her as one of the enslaved class of small, magicless humans. The Gods expect her to drag the world out of the bronze age. Though she's already recreated matches and wrought iron, introducing technology isn't going well because she was born a slave (oops) and having escaped, wants nothing to do with so-called "civilization." Asgotl was a whale when he died. The Gods reincarnated him as a griffin and expect him to have the same role he played in his previous life: to keep a reluctant prophet from walking off the job. If only they had remembered to tell him about it. Revised update schedule will be once a week on Saturdays, noonish Mountain Time (in North America)

I Have A Dagger
Bored, I browsed my spam folder. I clicked on some interesting spam, summoning me to another world. All I have is this dagger: [Dagger] Broad leaf blade made by a dwarf blacksmith while drinking. Hilt slapped on by an elf high on shrooms. The handle is pleasantly smooth, which makes for a terrible gripping experience. Upgradeable, if you upgrade it. Has a chance of killing something if you stab said something in the right place. Fully editable Google Doc for the whole story.

MAZE - The Endless Quest
As all kids do, Hera wanted to be an explorer. Sadly when she turned 18, she discovered that her stats and lack of skills made her fail the requirements to become one, and she went to work on a bookstore. That should have been the end of her story. But when she wins a lottery to have her level up, she discovers a hidden skill and a rare one at that. The system gave her dream back, and this time she is not letting it go. ############################## The story is about a world where game-like systems are the norm. Everyone has a level, status, and even skills are a common thing. If your stats are good, you can also become an explorer, someone that ventures inside a place called MAZE, a dungeon of sorts filled with monsters, creatures, and things that the natural world is missing, such as magic and demi-humans. The story follows Hera, a woman who wanted to be an explorer, but her status were too low to become one. One day she wins a raffle that allows her to level up for the first time giving her the chance to achieve her childhood dream. It's more about how things work and what you can do with them than about power or revenge. The rhythm might be a bit slow for some, but that is the idea. I want to give sort of a slice of life feeling to most of it.

The Boy in the Tunnel
Fall semester. 1997. At a strange Southern college, freshman Tim's eerily prescient Student Handbook tells him he's going to fall in love with 6'6" sophomore Joanie. But Joanie has more important things to deal with than a weird crush - like a creepy English professor, a hallucinogenic drug that's chipping away at her sanity, and a war between rival secret societies that could destroy the University before Tim and Joanie find out if their love is real, or just fiction.Recommended if you like: impossible architecture, books that can tell the future, made-up games with overcomplicated rules, portentous graffiti, secret codes, first love, intense hallucinations, 80s and 90s pop culture, a world that's just a couple degrees off from reality, and a coming-of-age story set in a manufactured community that lets you try on different possible futures - aka college.New chapters of The Boy in the Tunnel post every Friday.
