I paced around my bedroom as I told Janet what happened.
I was debating wheatear or not I should tell her but I decided too. We tell each other everything so I figured I shouldn’t this out.
“Wow! Is he a good kisser?” she asked.
“Janet!” I said giving her a look.
“What? I want to know.”
I sighed and sat down next to her. “Yes…”
She squealed. “I knew it! So, do you like him?”
“I don’t know!” I said before grabbing a pillow and screamed in it.
“What do you mean?”
“The only good thing about him is his face, body and lips. Nothing else. He’s personality is ass and he’s the biggest man slut I’ve ever seen. Not the typical guy I normally go for.”
“Well, does he like you?”
I laughed. “Were you listening to me?”
“Guys are children. When they tease you, they like you. It happens in all the romance novels.”
“This is not a romance novel! This is college!”
“The rule still applies. If he likes you, he’ll pick on you.”
I sighed again and fell back on the bed.
“So…would you be mad if I went for him?” Janet asked.
“Yes!” I said sitting up. “He’s an ass and I’m tired of you dating jerks. Why don’t you date Joel or Liam? They’re nice and really cute.”
“About that…” she said standing up. I watched my sister pace around the room for a while. “You can’t freak out,” she said.
I nodded my head. “Scotts honor.”
“Joel asked me out,” she said sitting down next to me.
“What?” I asked smiling.
“He asked when you were out with Jake.”
“Go for it!”

“He’s not really…my type.”
“How do you know?”
Janet rolled her eyes. “Okay, I’ll go out with him.”
I clapped my hands. “Go! Run to him.”
Janet hit my knee playfully before walking out of our room.
******
The next morning I woke up late and walked into the kitchen area. Joel and Janet were making breakfast together and by the looks of it they were flirting.
“Morning,” I said running my hand through my hair.
“Hey,” they said smiling at me.
“Are you ready for the game tonight?” Joel asked me as I sat down.
“Yeah, man, it’s our first game.”
“I really hope I get to play. Coach might not put in any freshman,” Joel said as he watched Janet scramble the eggs.
“Well, I won’t be put in at all.”
“Why? You’re an amazing player.”
“Jake got me in trouble with the coach.”
“How?”
I rolled my eyes. “Let’s just say Jake’s a dead man walking.”
Liam walked out of his room with his glasses on his face.
“Hey,” we said greeting him.
He waved before sitting next to me.
“Do look so excited,” I said nudging him.
“I was up all night texting a friend of mine,” he said resting his head on the table.
“A friend? A female friend?” I asked.
He nodded his head.
I smiled and looked at the guys.
“Liam’s got a girlfriend!” Janet and Joel chanted.
He just sighed as we tested him.
“I miss having late night conversations,” I said.
“You can have mine,” Liam said lifting up his head. “I was up till four.”
“Come on dude! We have a big game to day,” Joel said giving him a plate.
“I know, I know,” he said getting some food.
Janet handed me a plate and we eat breakfast together.
The rest of the day was pretty lazy.
Once six o’clock hit the guys and I left for the game.
It’s show time!

The Oath of Oblivion
Rane could draw power from the dead and make it his own. For some, such an arcane birthright would be a boon and a blessing. To Rane, it meant being forced on a path of bloodshed and death based on the whims of his slavers. To commit acts that went against every human instinct he retained. Years of torture and captivity have left his body weak and his mind in shambles, yet he still retains a few, fragmented memories. They hint at a life beyond what his prison and what his cruel masters have allowed him. At a family he's lost, and a promise he's already broken. To escape, Rane will have to face fierce beasts, unhinged mages and the true essence of what it means to be human. And as the peace between ancient kingdoms grows uneasy and the world plunges headfirst into madness, the cost of freedom might prove high. In the chaos of conflict and men’s ravenous ambitions, the true name of the world has been long forgotten. Nations wage bloody campaigns with remnants of ancestral magic while nature itself crumbles around them. Only one pillar of stability stands unshaken for millennia, anchoring the realm to balance. One single truth that no mage has yet to break. Oaths, once sworn, cannot be broken. Under the Arbiter's watchful eye, civilizations rise and crumble. People live and die. The words of the strong become law, and law shapes reality. And that is just the reality Rane has to change. Dark High Fantasy story with multiple alternating POVs. Humanity's End
Given a year to prepare by the mysterious ‘system’ for contact with the wider galaxy, humanity must work to ensure the Earth’s defense is ready to meet any challenge. Sadly, most of the world seems dedicated to tearing itself apart as the year-end deadline gets closer. The west is in barely contained Chaos, while the east descends into internal conflict and war. The Pillar Forts, one of the few successful projects of the United Nations headed by the United States, stand ready to defend humanity against any invasion that may come through the strange Connection Pillars that appeared on each continent. Massive steel and stone walls that surround the Connection Pillars. They are filled with deadly men and women trained in all manner of warfare, each trained in the newly acquired System with skills and magical abilities that they put to deadly purpose. Beside these brave warriors, tanks, helicopters, artillery and more stand ready to defend humanity at each of these powerful installations. But, can they overcome the disparity in levels and experience between themselves and the forces that threaten them and the rest of humanity? Main Characters Jessica Brown- A young African American girl. Her 18th birthday in Detroit was the same day the systems message appeared. She discovered she was Level 7, much higher than most of the rest of the world. Why she is blessed, or cursed, with the power she doesn’t know. But what she does know is that she rather likes the feeling that comes with manipulating magic. The week after her birthday, government workers started testing every person in the US in a massive census effort of skills and abilities. Jessica Brown found herself conscripted into the US Magical Corp, a new branch of the US Military, and shipped off to a Pillar Fort. Somewhere hot and muggy in her ancestors’ home of Africa. As she grows stronger, she finds she has some connection to the pillars. While everyone else sees beauty or danger when they look at the pillars, after connection is made all Jessica can see is a Tree. A tree the size of the entire universe. Isaka Smith - is a third generation American and farmer who just wants to be left alone. But she is dragged into the situation by events beyond her control. When people in her small town had to deal with rioters and looters after the system announcement, she rallied them to defend themselves, earning her a trait that the government found extraordinarily useful. After a visit to a local reservation, she finds herself conscripted to lead one of the many small support towns erected around the great pillar forts. Not near her old home, but in far-flung Africa. John McIntire, the “Fighting Bull” -The commander of the African Fort, but because of circumstances beyond his ability to contend with shortly after taking command after being re-activated from retirement, he finds communication with his chain of command increasingly difficult. The US government, hell, even the United Nations, seems to have fallen into complete and utter chaos. The African Union is embroiled in a bitter civil war just outside his door, and supposedly, most of the world governments are in similar situations. Meanwhile, John must do his best to be ready to facilitate diplomacy, or to match the hostile argument of whatever force might come through the pillar of light when the year timer finishes counting down. Can our heros defend Earth from outside threats, while it tares itself apart? Or will they need to rebuild from the ground up? DEDICATION: This story is dedicated to my father who passed away recently. Jim Holloway, you’ll be missed you old silverback gorilla. Love you dad. Always have, always will.
