《The Triplets' Guides (Reader Insert Version)》Dipper's Guide to the Unexplained: The Hide Behind

Dipper had been busy scribbling on a new piece of cardboard in the triplets' room when Mabel finally turned on the camera. He was wearing a backpack that was filled with all sorts of gear, from a pickaxe to a butterfly net.
"We're on" Mabel whispered to her brother.
"Oh!" said Dipper, before clearing his throat and turning towards the camera.
"Hello, and welcome back to Dipper's guide to the unexplained" he said.
Mabel held up a miniature UFO keychain, and pressed a button, causing the little keychain to make a mysterious noise to add to the effect.
"Thank you" said Dipper. "Today, we discover Gravity Falls anomaly number one thirty two. The hide behind."
Dipper held up the open journal to the camera.
"Local lumberjacks tell of a mysterious creature, always just out of sight" he said, before holding up his own photos of suspicious footprints. "But these footprints suggest that it might actually be real!"
He then turned the camera back to his own face.
"But either way, I intend to find out."
Suddenly, Mabel popped up behind Dipper and started to wave her arms around.
"Argh! Hide Behind!" she yelled.
Dipper screamed in surprise, and dropped the camera on the floor.
Mabel couldn't help but laugh.
Dipper was now interviewing Manly Dan the lumberjack on the hide behind. They were standing several yards in front of his three sons, who were both sawing a large tree next to a log cabin.
"Hide behind? Oh he's real all right" Manly Dan was saying. "Real as my beard!!!!"
He pointed behind himself.
"He was behind me once. He made this sound: Ch ch ch ch ch! Real spooky."
"Uh, Dad?" said one of his sons from behind, his voice rising with a fearful tone.
The tree that they had been trying to cut down was now starting to shake uncontrollably, threatening to fall down on top of them.
"It's coming down!"
All three of his sons bolted out of the way, as far away from the tree as they could just as it started to fall down.
"DADDY'S DOING A MOVIE!!!!" Manly Dan yelled, as the tree fell right on top of the log cabin. "He's doing a movie now."

Dipper was now in Greasy's Diner, interviewing Lazy Susan as she was pouring coffee for one of her guests.
"Can I get a refill now?" her guest asked. "Refill?"
Lazy Susan ignored him and turned towards Dipper, not even noticing how much the coffee mug she was pouring was overfilling.
"Oh, the hide behind is definitely real" she said. "Might even be behind me right now."
She looked behind her.
"Let me see."
She suddenly started spinning in circles, coffee splattering everywhere as she did so.
"Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa..."
Dipper was now on the Mystery Shack porch, interviewing Stan about the hide behind. He had a rather bored expression on his face, and a can of pitt cola in his hand.
"Don't believe every legend you hear, kid" Stan said. "The people in this town are literally the dumbest people in the world. Literally."
Lazy Susan was still spinning in circles, looking for the hide behind.
"Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa..."
"The hide behind's just a rumor" Stan was saying. "You want a mystery, then how about the mystery of why..."
He was interrupted by a loud vibrating sound, that sounded inconceivably similar to the one that Manly Dan had described earlier.
"What the-"
Suddenly, a dark blurr rushed right past them so quickly that they couldn't even get a clear view of it. It knocked over several trash cans as it headed into the forest.
"That's it!" yelled Dipper excitedly, as he suddenly took off into the forest after the creature, leaving Stan and the others behind.
Mabel had been holding up a microphone, and Soos had been holding up a light box.
"Hey, we're doing an interview!" Stan shouted angrily.
"Dipper!" yelled Mabel.
"Kid!"
But Dipper ignored them, only taking his camera with him as he ran further into the forest.
"I'm coming for you!" he said determinedly. "Where is he? Where is he?"
Dipper finally turned the camera back on, and aimed it towards a skimpy tree in the middle of a clearing in the forest. The tree had no leaves, and practically no branches as well.
"Alright, after hours of searching, I've narrowed it down to this tree" Dipper, pointing at the tree.

As if on cue, something suddenly started to make the vibrating humming noise from behind the tree, just like the one that they had heard earlier.
Dipper then turned the camera towards his face.
"I know what you're wondering. How do you catch a creature that's always right behind you?" Dipper said. "How about..."
He suddenly stepped backwards, showing his entire body to the camera. He was wearing a harness that had several branches attached to it, a mirror on the end of each one.
He had two antennas taped to the top of his hat, each of them with mirrors on their ends, and a mirror in each of his hands as well.
"...a mirror suit!" he said proudly. "Nothing's gonna sneak up on old Dipper-"
Suddenly, a branch hit him over the top of his head, and Mabel appeared above him, upside down as she was hanging from an overhead branch.
"Blind spot!"
Dipper screamed in alarm, and fell backwards, his body completely frozen.
"I'm down!" he shouted. "Dipper down!"
Once Mabel had managed to calm Dipper down and convinced him to take off his mirror suit, Dipper turned the camera back on as they were about to find the hide behind.
"This is it" he said determinedly. "Get ready to finally be seen, hide behind."
He started to walk towards the skimpy tree.
"In three, two, one..."
He jumped behind the tree, exposing whatever it was that was hiding behind it.
"Ah ha!"
It was not the hide behind.
Sitting behind the tree was (y/n), with a triumphant, mischievous grin on her face.
"Boo!" she shouted.
"Aaahh!"
Dipper screamed, jumping back in surprise before finally coming back to his senses.
"(y/n)?" he said with disbelief. "But, where's the hide behind?"
He started to look around the area, searching for the mysterious creature.
"I could have sworn I heard it hiding behind this tree!"
(y/n) smirked.
"Oh, you mean this?"
She took out a small device from her toolbelt, and pressed a button on it.
The mysterious sound that Dipper had heard earlier started to play from the speaker adhered to the top of it.
Dipper still refused that this had all been just another one of (y/n)'s pranks.
"But but, I saw the the creature run right past us!"
(y/n) grinned widely again, and held up her wrist, revealing the hologram disguise watch.
She pressed a button on it, and suddenly, she was turned into a ten foot tall shadowy creature, with limbs that faded into wispy mist.
She laughed as she deactivated the device, turning herself back to normal.
"Oh, you should have seen your face!"
Dipper glared at at her, before turning towards the camera.
Dipper had abandoned the camera on a nearby stump, as he threw the mirror suit down onto the ground frustratedly.
"Ah, come on, Dip, don't look so down!" said (y/n), as she put an arm around him. "It's not your fault that you fell for my awesome pranking skills!"
She turned towards Mabel, and held up a hand, in which her sister high-fived in return.
The two girls then ran off towards the Mystery Shack, out of view of the camera.
Dipper looked at the camera rather defeatedly.
"Well, based on the lack of evidence, I have to conclude that anomaly number one thirty two, the hide behind, just a legend."
He sighed, before he started the walk back home.
He didn't notice the mysterious creature with yellow eyes and long limbs stepping out from behind the skimpy tree.
The hide behind started to follow Dipper, making the mysterious buzzing noise.
Dipper turned around instantly, but the hide behind hid near seamlessly behind another tree.
"What was that?" the boy asked aloud. "Meh. Nothing."
He continued on his walk again, and the hide behind walked out from behind the tree, continuing to follow Dipper.
When he made the noise, Dipper turned around again, and the creature hid behind another tree. In the end, Dipper just kept walking home, not even bothering to turn around whenever he heard the noise again.

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
