《Falling for Autumn | Jacob Black》Chapter 37 [edited]

"Has anyone seen my bag?" I hollered from my room as I tore through my closet like a chaotic tornado. "Alice is going to kill me if I'm late!"
"Found it!" Chloe's voice floated from the living room and I thundered down the stairs, sighing in relief. "It was behind the couch!"
"It must've fallen down when Jacob and Seth were here earlier to get the wedding decorations for Alice."I said as Chloe handed me the bag with a smile, hugging it to my chest. "Are you ready to go?"
"Yeah, I just have to grab my wallet from the kitchen." Chloe disappeared down the hallway as Mom rounded the corner from her study.
"Charlie and I will see you tomorrow morning, with Renée and Phil. We're picking them up from the airport in a few hours, as Alice has instructed." She smiled widely, smoothing down my hair. "Tell Esme the cake will be delivered in the morning as well, and not to worry."
"I will." I kissed Mom's cheek. "Love you, Mom. See you later!"
When we arrived at the Cullens' house, the backyard had been transformed into an elegant wedding ceremony. Floral garlands hung through the trees and wrapped around wooden arches set up where the altar was going to be, intertwined with white twinkling lights to create a romantic atmosphere. Carlisle and Jasper were setting up tables and chairs for the reception area, Esme walking behind them and covering the tables in white linens.
On the deck, Alice was supervising as Bella slowly practiced walking in her wedding shoes. Pausing after a step, Bella eyed the shoes warily, stumbling slightly. Alice shook her head but tried to remain encouraging.
"You just have to break them in." She reassured Bella, who groaned defeatedly.
"I've been breaking them in. For three days. Can I just go barefoot?"
"No, absolutely not."
"Just thinking it's a little much, you know? The dress and the shoes, and all of this." Bella glanced over at Carlisle and Jasper, who moved on to carrying benches for the ceremony space.
"No, it's exactly enough. Tomorrow will be perfect." Alice swirled around and beamed at Chloe and me. "It's about time you two made it!"
"Sorry we're late, I couldn't find my bag." I motioned to the object in question sheepishly.
Alice nodded in acknowledgment, turning to face Emmett who was carrying a long tree trunk.
"Where do you want them, boss?" He grunted.
"On either side of the aisle."
Rosalie walked past behind Emmett, carrying a fat tree stump. Her face twisted in confused disbelief.
"What aisle?"
"Does no one have vision?" Alice huffed, clearly annoyed by the lack of creativity in her siblings.
"I got this," I waved Alice off and motioned for Rosalie and Emmett to follow me.
As I directed them like I knew Alice wanted, I watched out of the corner of my eye as Bella took off her shoes, sliding her converse back on. She looked toward the house and I followed her gaze to see Edward standing in front of the window in the kitchen; he was watching his family get everything set up for the wedding with a bemused expression on his face. His eyes met Bella's, a soft smile tugging at his lips as Alice stepped directly into Bella's line of vision.
"You, go home and get lots of beauty sleep. That's an order." Alice motioned in the direction of the path that wrapped around the side of the house to the driveway. I snickered to myself as I realized Alice was doing everything she could to keep Bella away from Edward until tomorrow.

"Okay." Bella sighed before giving Alice a hug and waving to everyone else.
As Bella walked away, Alice picked up the shoes and smiled at them before turning her attention back to Chloe and I.
"Okay, ladies. My family can handle the outside decorations. Autumn, you need to try your bridesmaid dress on one more time so we can finalize details. Chloe, you're on hair duty. Let's go." Alice shooed us into the house, mumbling to herself as her eyes roamed over each room as we headed for her bedroom.
Forty-five minutes later, Alice and Chloe both stepped back from me, eyeing their handiwork. I waited patiently while Alice circled around me, clasping her hands together.
"Perfect!" She exclaimed happily. "We'll do this look again in the morning when Bella's here to get ready. Both of you should get to bed soon. You can take my room or the guest bedroom Rosalie set up as our bridal suite."
"The guest room is fine with us. Thanks, Alice. We'll see you in the morning." I said, letting Chloe take the bobby pins out of my hair.
"Good night!"
With a warm smile, Alice left us to get ready for bed. As we settled into the twin beds in the guest room, sleep instantly overcame us, leaving the room in dark silence.

"What did I say about beauty sleep?" Alice scolded at Bella in the mirror as she shuffled through the makeup bag for what she was looking for. I smiled from my chair beside Bella while Chloe was busy doing my hair, the bathroom heavily smelling like hairspray and perfume.
"Sorry, bad dream. It was wedding jitters." Bella said sheepishly, stifling a yawn.
"Do you need some help? I could do her hair." Rosalie appeared in the doorway warily, her eyes shifting to Bella before focusing on Alice.
"Really?" Bella asked nervously, glancing at me in the mirror; I shrugged in response, just as confused.
"Please. I'm not offended by your choice of groom." Rosalie rolled her eyes.
"Just my blatant lack of respect for mortality." Bella tried to joke, breaking the awkward tension building in the air.
"Essentially," Rosalie said, a tiny smirk breaking across her face.
"Weddings. They bring everyone together!" Alice beamed, happy her sisters were getting along. "Okay, Bella. No moving. Rose, I was thinking something like this."
As Alice demonstrated twists and pinned spots to Rosalie, we heard Renée's voice call out from the top of the staircase.
"Alice? Bella?"
"In here, Mom!" Bella replied, trying not to move too much as Rosalie swiftly finished her hairstyle.
A few seconds later, Renée appeared in the bathroom, gasping as she noticed Bella smiling from her chair.
"Oh, my gosh! You're so beautiful. Oh, honey." Renée gushed, starting to cry. "Crap! My mascara."
"Oh, Mom!" Bella blushed.
Alice handed Renée a handkerchief with a knowing smile. She accepted it gratefully, dabbing at her eyes.
"Thank you, Alice. Charlie, get in here!"
"You sure? I don't wanna... interrupt." Charlie said before he walked into the room, already wearing his wedding tux; he paused long enough to pose awkwardly. "I know. I look hot. Anyways, we thought you needed something blue."
Charlie opened the gift box in his hand, revealing a silver jeweled hair comb.
"And something old. Besides your mother." Charlie joked.
"Nice." Renée playfully elbowed him.
"It was Grandma Swan's." Charlie continued as Bella picked the comb up out of the box carefully, admiring the jewels.

"But we added the sapphires," Renée added, pointing to the blue gems forming small flowers.
"It's beautiful, you guys. Wow. Thank you so much." Bella said emotionally as she handed it to Alice to put in her hair.
"It's your first family heirloom. Pass on to your daughter, and her daughter." Renée exclaimed, crying again as she looked at her daughter.
"Mom, I love it."
Bella leaned in to kiss her parents, Alice abruptly stopping her with a stern look in her eyes.
"Nope. No smudging my masterpiece."
"She's right." Renée and I spoke at the same time, laughing as we met each other's gaze.
"Okay. Time for the dress! Do you wanna see it?" Alice swiftly changed the subject, drawing Renée's attention with her.
"I want to see it!" Renée clapped her hands excitedly.
"And that's my cue to go," Charlie chuckled, ducking out of the bathroom.
"Autumn, you finish getting ready and we'll meet you downstairs," Alice instructed as she led Renée and Bella to her bedroom where Bella's dress was stored.
"And there." Chloe secured the last bobby pin into my hair, nodding at her work. "You look gorgeous, Leaf."
"I couldn't have done it without you, Peaches. Thank you." I smiled back. "Let's get my dress on and get out of here. I think the hairspray is getting to me."
Carefully helping me slip the light pink fabric over my head, Chloe zipped the back up and smoothed out the skirt before supporting me as I slid my feet into the heels Alice picked out to match the dress. Once I was steady, Chloe handed me my bouquet and we headed downstairs to wait for Bella.
Alice bounced into the kitchen a few moments later, her eyes sparkling. She grinned even wider when she saw me standing there, ready to walk down the aisle.
"Okay, you look amazing! I'm going to signal to Jasper to start the music; as soon as you hear it, count to five and then walk. I'll be right behind you."
"Got it." I gave her a thumbs up.
Just as Alice instructed, the music flowed through the air and I counted to five before walking down the path towards the altar. Mom was sitting next to Billy, both of their eyes on me as I appeared around the archway and smiles dawning on their faces. Smiling back at them, I turned to focus on the aisle in front of me and nearly stumbled when my eyes met Jacob's. He was standing to the left of Edward, in a matching black tux; the sight of him dressed up gave me flashbacks to prom when he crashed to give Bella a warning from Billy about the Cullens.
Crazy to think how much things have changed since then...
His returning smile was dazzling as his eyes roamed over my dress, his eyes shining mischievously when he noticed the growing blush in my cheeks. Edward shook his head as he looked between us, saying something to Jacob that made him laugh heartily. Too soon, I reached my place just in time to watch Alice float elegantly down the aisle. Stopping beside me, Alice flashed a smile at Jasper, who quickly changed the music.
As if on cue, everyone stood up and turned to watch Bella make her entrance, clutching slightly to Charlie's arm so she didn't trip over her feet. I glanced over to Edward who was trying hard not to break into a wide grin at the sight of his bride. Jacob clasped Edward's shoulder in support, his eyes flickering to me; holding my gaze, he smiled and mouthed, I love you. Once Bella was at the altar, the minister motioned for the guests to sit down before he began speaking.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here on this glorious day to witness the union of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. Edward, please repeat after me."
Edward took Bella's hands in his, gazing into her eyes as he repeated the traditional vows from the minister. Once he was finished, it was Bella's turn to repeat the vows. The love emitting from them as they were lost in their own personal bubble was clear as crystal and more than one person was dabbing at their eyes at the sight of them at the altar.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride," the minister beamed.
Edward pulled Bella towards him, softly kissing her as everyone cheered and broke into applause.
As the daylight faded into night, the reception was filled with joyous laughter, tons of dancing, and Bella awkwardly shoving cake into Edward's mouth, almost missing his lips entirely. Our friends happily took over the dance floor, Mike and Eric breaking into a dance-off similar to the one they pulled off at prom a few months ago. I couldn't help but smile warmly at the sight of everyone having a good time as I helped Alice replenish the dessert table. A small disturbance a few feet away pulled my attention to Edward and Bella talking to a dark-haired couple. I recognized them as Edward's "cousins" from Alaska, Carmen and Eleazar; standing behind them were Kate and Tanya, who were eyeing their sister Irina nervously.
Suddenly, Irina made a disgusted face and stalked away from her sisters, who appeared apologetic to Edward and Bella before disappearing after her. Alice shook her head slightly, focusing on the treats in front of her. The look on her face was enough to tell me not to question the situation; I had a feeling it was about Laurent and the wolves, from the way Irina glared at Billy and Seth from across the yard. Arms wrapped around my waist, pulling me out of my thoughts; Jacob pressed his nose against my neck before kissing my cheek.
"May I have this dance, Miss Watson?" He spun me around to face him, his gaze lovingly.
"Of course, Mr. Black. Lead the way," I giggled, letting Jacob pull me to the dance floor as a slow song began to play. He pulled me closer to his chest, resting his cheek on the top of my head as we swayed to the beat.
"You know, I could get used to this," Jacob murmured into my hair, his lips planting a soft kiss on my temple.
"What?" I asked, looking up at him through my eyelashes.
"This. Dancing with you, like nothing else matters in the world."
"Aw, Jacob Black. Who knew you were such a romantic?" I teased, causing him to laugh.
"Only for you, babe."
With a wink, Jacob twirled me in a circle, my dress fanning out around my legs just like a princess's dress at a ball.

As much research as I do and as many people as I ask, I will in the end only be able to understand a small portion of paraplegia and similar disabilities. Therefore, if there is anything particularly disrespectful, please do not hesitate to contact me. I always intended to portray disability in a respectful way in this story, but please know that Liz as a character does not start out with a healthy view of disability. This is intentional, and a large part of her character development comes from this view changing as she learns. Disability is not something she simply "discards" at the beginning of the story, but an ongoing theme and a part of her journey.
