《The blonde and the brunette》14: Travis

I was fine. Nothing was wrong with me, I just got knocked out.
The nurses let me go, after they checked my head and made sure everything was okay.
But mitch wasn't okay.
He wouldn't talk to me.
He wouldn't make eye contact with me.
He just sat there, like he used to do at the edge of his bed, where I work.
I get up, and take his hand.
We walk to the car, his head looking straight at the ground.
"Mitchy..." I say as we get to the car.
He says nothing, and gets in.
"Honey..." I say.
"What did he do to you?" I ask.
He stayed quiet and looked down.
"Mitch." I said firmly, but not rude.
"What did he do to you?"
He shook his head as a tear fell down his face.
I sighed and drove home.
As we drove, he stoped crying.
"H-he... he..." mitch mumbled.
"Hey, you can tell me."
"H-He tr-tried to rape m-me..." Mitch said, as he started to cry again.
"But he didn't, right?"
"N-No... I-I got away quick enough..."
"I'm so sorry, Mitchy. I should have helped you." I said, feeling bad.
"Y-you couldn't, h-he k-knocked you o-out... I-I should have h-helped you." Mitch stuttered.
"Don't worry about me. I'm fine. I'm so sorry that he did that to you." I say, putting a hand on his lap.
He stays quiet.
We get home, and he gets out of the car, and locks himself in his room.
I'm starting to question if Travis did more than what mitch is saying.
And if he did, Travis is going to get hurt.
No one deserves to be treated the way he treats mitch.
Poor baby...
I walk up to his room, with a blanket and some of his favorite candy. Along with a spongebob movie.

"Mitchy?" I said, knocking on his door.
No answer.
"Mitchy, baby? Can I come in? I have movies and a blanket." I say.
He unlocks the door and opens it. Then walks back to his bed and hides underneath the blankets.
I set the candy, movie and spare blankets down and go to him.
"Mitchy... tell me what really happened." I say.
"I-I did. H-he touched me... he.. he almost d-did something b-bad."
I rubbed his back.
"Did he do anything else?"
He shook his head, stopped and then nodded.
"What did he do?"
Mitch pulled up his shirt and showed me a big scratch on his chest.
"Oh no... Mitchy... you could have told me."
"H-he did it.. b-because I wo-wouldn't let h-him t-take my pant-pants off..." he mumbled.
"Did he take your pants off?" I asked.
He shook his head. "No, but he s-slapped my ass, c-called m-me the things he u-used t-to call me a-and slapped m-me a-across the face..." he said.
"T-then he ran o-off..."
I gently pick mitch up, and sit him on my lap.
"I'm so sorry that happened. It's my fault, I should have known Travis was behind me."
"Scott... d-don't blame yourself..." mitch said, wiping a tear from his face.
"You're okay, I promise. You know, I'm here to talk. Always." I say.
He nods. "I know."
"He just really scared me, and brought me back to the times before. He didn't do anything bad to me, other than scratch me. And call me names... but nothing more." Mitch said. "Thanks for being here, scotty."
I smile. "Always and forever."
He smiles.
"Can we maybe watch that movie to get my mind off him?"

I nod. "Good idea." I say, putting the movie in and giving him his candy.
We watch the movie, but halfway through it, Mitch checks his phone.
And his mood instantly changes.
Happy to scared.
What the heck??
"T-Travis... h-he's..." he stops and hands me the phone.
Travis: Hey, dumbass. It's me, Travis. I just wanted to warn you, the next time I see you, you better run. And that guy Scott won't be able to protect you. I'm closer than you think, Grassi.
Mitch starts crying again, and hides under the blankets, with his head on my chest.
"Travis won't touch you, and this time I promise."

The Last Marshal
Weird West Fantasy Noir Once the Republic Marshals brought order to the chaotic lands along the Frontier, facing dangers both human and supernatural with ancient wisdom and a six-gun —but that was a long time ago. Destroyed by conspiracy and betrayal, all that remains of that secretive order is one nameless man on a trek though the West seeking revenge on the woman he blames for the Marshals' fall and his disgrace. When a visitor from our world joins him on his journey, they together must confront the horrors of a strange land, the mysteries of the past and the real meaning of their quest for justice. The world of Tellus is what 19th Century Earth would have looked like if the stories of Poe, Ambrose Bierce, Lovecraft and William Hope Hodgeson were real. History in this world moves slower. The old faiths persist and civilization never conquered the dark corners of the map, at least not without being inextricably changed. Technology and culture takes a little longer to evolve in this land, as people here tend to spend more time pursuing their elaborate revenge plots or trying to avoid being the next sacrifice to the Outer Gods rather than advancing science or statecraft. Imagine Cormac McCarthy by way of Edgar Rice Burroughs, though a little less testosterone-drenched than that description would imply. Three caveats: First, there are deep mysteries here, including how such a world came to be and who controls it. Second, this world is not wholly unconnected from our own. There is a historical point of divergence, but in the distant past. To paraphrase Twain: history in this world is not a repeat of our own, but it does often rhyme. And finally, this is not a setting that lends itself to happy endings.
