I put the last of my things in the truck of my car, giving my family a small smile.
"If you need anything, remember that we're always right here - just one phone call away." My mother said pulling me in for a hug.
"I know mom. Plus, nothing's gonna go wrong. I'll just be babysitting 24/7." I said shrugging once we pulled away from each other.
"It's called being a nanny." My little sister, Jen, said from the front porch.
"Are you going to give me a goodbye hug or not, Jen?" I asked her with open arms.
She rolled her green eyes at me, before making her way to me and giving me a hug.
"Take good care of mom for me." I whispered in her ear, as I stroked her purple hair.
She pulled away and looked at me with with teary eyes. "I will, don't worry." She said giving me a smile.
"I'll miss you, twerp." I said ruffling her hair.
"Dot get all mushy with me." She scolded pointing a finger at me.
I rolled my eyes and made my way to the drivers seat of my car. "I'll miss you guys, love you." I yelled through the window, waving as I drove down the street to make my way to the Irwin house.

I pulled up to a giant house, which is where my gps directed me to. I shook my head, getting rid of the nerves and got out my car.
I locked my car and walked up to the front door, ringing the doorbell. The door opened and I was greeted by a blond woman, Anne Irwin.
"Good afternoon Ms.Irwin." I smiled extending a hand towards her, she took it and gave me a smile back.

"Hi Annabelle. I'm so excited for you to be working here and helping with the kids." She said releasing my hand.
"It's no problem. But can I get help to bring my bags in?" I asked pointing to my car.
"Of course. I'll get Ashton to help you and show you your room. ASHTON!" She yelled into the staircase.
"After your all settled I'll have you meet the children during dinner." She said, the made her way into the house, and came back with a tall, dirty blond boy who looked about my age. He was telling me something but I couldn't quite hear so I stood outside rocking back and forth on my feet.
"Are you just gonna stand there or are you actually going to help me with your stuff." The curly haired boy said pushing past me, making his way to my car.
I unlocked my car and followed him to get my things out the trunk. I opened the trunk and he pulled out my big suitcase while I took the smaller one.
- - - - -
"So your Ashton?" I asked placing my little luggage on the floor of my new room he took me to.
"Yes." He said putting the suitcase he was carrying by my door.
"I'm Annabelle." I said with a bubbly tone in my voice. He just scoffed at me and left my room, arms crossed.
I let a breath out of my lips once he left.
"Be down in ten." Ashton shouted through the hallway. I nodded even though he couldn't see me, and took that time to take out my essentials-my feminine products, charger, and makeup.
Once I put all my little things in my bed side table, I decided I would go downstairs to meet the other kids.

"You can take a seat right here, Annabelle." Ms.Irwin said tapping the chair to her right. I gave one nod and made my way to the chair, and looked around the table. In front of me was Ashton, next to him was a little boy with hair just like Ashton's but he had blue eyes, and next to me was a girl who was probably a few years younger than me, she also had blue eyes. Come to think of it, they all had blue eyes except for Ashton.
During the lunch, I learned that the boy sitting next to Ashton was Harry, and the girl sitting next to me was Lauren. The kids told me a little about themselves and I told them a little about me. Once the children left Ms.Irwin asked me to stay to talk about my duties and how I have to treat her kids. I simply nodded making sure to take notes.
"Um, will there be any way that I could leave the house every Saturday at like 10 for a couple of hours and come back?" I asked hoping she'll say yes.
"Why would you need to leave every Saturday?" She asked.
Because besides this job I work at a sex club to pay off a debt my father owed before he died.
Instead I said, "I would like to visit my mother, you know, make sure she's doing well."
Ms.Irwin gave me a small smile. "I hope my children would be that kind to visit me every week, even if they might live far from me," She said letting out a sigh. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't burden you with my thoughts, but yes you can go visit your mother every week on Saturday." She said standing up from her chair.
"Well, I have to go to bed, but thank you so much for being willing to take care of my kids." She said.
"Oh, it's no problem. I'll see you in the morning. Goodnight." I said and walked up the stairs and to my room to continue unpacking.

The Simulacrum
"He who fights with harem tropes should see to it that he himself does not become a harem protagonist. And if you gaze for long into a narrative, the narrative gazes also into you." --- Friedrich Nietzsche (probably?) How would you react if one day you woke up inside an environment running on tropes and clichés? For allegedly average high-schooler Leonard Dunning, this question became quite relevant when one day he woke up in a pristine city on a strange island in the middle of the Atlantic, without any memories, surrounded by classmates who are barely more than characterless placeholders, and with a classic indecisive harem protagonist and his impossibly beautiful love interests for friends. That would be hard to deal with already, yet his investigation into the tropes governing the world, trying to avoid harem shenanigans, and his odd blend of outside-context knowledge, unique abilities, and a penchant for causing trouble wherever he goes ends up dragging him into the center of the action anyway. Disclaimer: This is a tongue-in-cheek, slice of life romantic comedy, with occasional sprinkles of combat and mystery to spice things up. Please do not expect a straight up deconstruction beyond some in-universe meta-commentary by the characters.
