A week now. it's been a week and I have not been able to talk to Juliette. She blocked my phone number and had my name crossed out of the visitor's list at her school. She refused to answer the door after I had spent long minutes knocking like a fool...but I was made to leave by an angry neighbour who had threatened to call the police.
I tried talking to her after practice but on seeing the playing field empty, I remembered they were training indoors now and I had no idea where.
I am left with one option, and phone Lea. Hopefully my number is still on her contact list.
« Hi Amelia ! What's up ! » She sounds cheeful. That's weird.
« Hi. I haven't been able to reach Juliette, I need your help. »
« She didn't tell you ? »
« Tell me what ?! » I feel anxiety wash over my body.
« She went back to France. » If my heart could stop beating I swear it just did.
« She changed her plans last minute and booked a plane two days ago. She didn't tell you ? »

« Oh come on, not again ? What did you do this time ? »

I hear her thinking hard on the other side of the line and suddenly she gets it.

I greet my teeth hard and she probably hears it.

I hear Lea sigh heavily. « I don't know what to say to you. I told you she needed to be taken care of. You've done nothing but hurt her and lie to her. I really should come break your legs. If Juliette refuses to talk to you there is nothing I am willing to do for you. Good bye Amelia. »

It's been a month now. A month of thinking day and night about Juliette. Lea had told me she'd be back after the Christmas holidays and I thought she might text me in the first week of January, but nothing came through my phone. I tried calling her several times too but my number was still blocked. I felt exhausted from sleepless nights spending crying, realising how stupid I had been. No wonder she didn't want to talk to me.
Christmas Day was gloomy too. I didn't want to spend the day with my family at such a joyful time of the year and I pretended I had the flue. Instead I spent the day in bed, watching series and drinking wine.
The only thing that made me in a better mood was the contract I signed with my client on the west coast. Apparently the ad we had shot before christmas had had a huge impact on viewers and he wanted to hire us for future ads. That meant a several million contract.
Tonight I come back home, depressed and angry, like the last previous 30 days. But I decide I've suffered enough. I need to move on, I can't spend my life waiting for her. I dial Jennifer's phone number.

And right on time, an hour later Jennifer texts me to let her in. I am a bit tipsy from the gin and tonics I've had while waiting and I stumble to the door.
« Good evening, Amelia. You look beautiful as always. » The dark-haired woman greets me, licking her lips.
I decide to waste no time and kiss her hungrily and aggressively on the lips. She quickly grants my tongue access and I feel her mouth smiling.
« Seems like you missed me. Why the rush ? »
« So I don't change my mind. »
« Oh you wouldn't dare. »
« Just, shut up and fuck me. » I instruct, undressing her and leading her to the master bedroom.
She is turned on by the agressivity and eagerness and soon our bodies are sweaty and entangled under the sheets.
« That was different. I like it. » She comments. « Why are you so angry ? »
« I'm going through a break up. »
« Oh, another one ? »
« Yeah. I don't want to talk about it. »
« At least, it means we can start seeing each other again. »
« Let's not make it a habit. It would probably end badly anyway. »
I take my phone to check the time and notice several texts from Lea and two missed phone calls. She let a message on my voice mail too. I put the phone back on the bedside table, not caring anymore, and resume kissing Jennifer.
