Ichigo's POV
Ichigo's Dorm, Morning of Parent's Day
Ichigo: "Rise and shine!" he tells Kukaku who refuses to get up.
She throws a pillow at him while curling up in bed.
Kukaku: "Keep it down... I'm tired..."
Immediately after finishing, she falls back asleep.
Rukia: "Maybe we shouldn't have stayed up all night playing video games with Ruby..." she sleepily sits up with bedhead.
Ichigo: "Jeez, this is sad..." He straightens his back after picking up the pillow. "Alright everyone, listen up. I'm gonna be busy corralling all the students and their families. Since you guys don't have those here, you're free to do whatever you want provided you go to class. I don't want Ozpin or especially Glynda yelling at me because you aren't there."
Yoruichi: "You sure you don't want her yelling at you, Ichigo?" she suggests.
Ichigo: "Completely." he deadpans.
His scroll goes off and speak of the devil, it's Glynda. When he opens the message, he hears Yoruichi snicker.
Yoruichi: "Judging by the look on your face..."
He ignores her perversion and reads it.
Glynda (text): 'Mr. Kurosaki, I hope you are prepared for today's special classes. The rest of us have compiled plans that mostly consist of practical exams and exhibition matches. As my assistant teacher, I would like you to help me with those. I ask that you be on your guard, especially around the moms. Meet me in the courtyard in fifteen minutes.'
Knowing that he'll only get yelled at, and not in a good way, if he's late, Ichigo starts to head out. Wait, is there a yelling in a good way?
Orihime: "We'll be sure to behave, Ichigo!" she announces as Ichigo walks out, to which he gives her a thumbs up.
Courtyard
By the time Ichigo had gotten there, Glynda was going through some sort of checklist with Ozpin. She finishes up and departs from him, opting to join Ichigo when she sees him.
Glynda: "Good morning Ichigo, how did you sleep?"
Icihgo: "Umm, good I guess? Anyway, when's everyone getting here?"
Glynda: "We'll have an assembly with the students here and then they'll go and meet their parents at the airship pad soon after. That's when we'll have our work cut out for us. First things first..."
She explains today's itinerary while Ichigo silently listens. Here he is, receiving instructions by the same person who said she thought he was a woman. Seriously! What the fuck was that about!? How does him having unexplainable powers translate to being a woman!? Don't think they ever explained themselves. What, are there some women in this world that have crazy powers like he does!?
Glynda finishes up her explanation just as the students arrive. Ichigo's teams arrive fairly late in comparison to the others, but still before it's time to start. When the clock hits nine, Ozpin steps onto a small stage prepared for this event.
Ozpin: "Good morning students, I hope you are well today. As you know, you came here in order to fulfill your dreams of protecting people, slaying Grimm, or whatever drives you. Your loved ones have supported you in your endeavors. For some, this is your first time being away from them. For others, being away may be all you know. But today is a day filled with showing them, the people who have believed in you the most, what you have learned."
He steps back and allows Glynda to take the microphone.
Glynda: "You shall follow your normal schedules today, but the locations will be a little different. My and Professor Kurosaki's class shall be held here, outside. Dr. Oobleck and Professor Port shall hold their classes in tandem in the library. Professor Peach shall hold her class in the ballroom. As that is all, you are dismissed."

She walks past Ichigo, giving him a small wink as she passes and stands next to him.
Glynda: "Let the show begin." she quips.
Blake's POV
After Ozpin's spiel and Glynda's explanation, the students were off to meet their parents. It's almost like a reverse of what children do. Blake had made her way to the pickup point and, in a crowd of adults, sees a woman with medium black hair, sharp yellow eyes, and three gold piercings on her cat ears. Blake's mom, Kali Belladonna.
Blake: "Mom!" she calls out to her.
She notices Blake calling her, recognizing her voice amongst the sea of people, and looks around, locking eyes with her daughter as she happily runs to her. Kali catches up to her and immediately hugs her, having missed her very much.
Kali: "Oh Blake! It's so good to see you! Are you doing alright? Are you eating properly? Are you-"
Blake: "Mom, relax. It's great to see you too." she hugs back. "Everything's fine."
Truth be told, Blake hasn't seen her mom ever since she left to go with the White Fang about four years ago, ever since the incident... She had only recently contacted her again and told her she was alright and that she could come see her at Beacon today, where they could spend the day together.
Kali's POV
Blake: "Come on. Do you know about today's schedule?" she asks as they start to walk away from the airship pad.
Kali: "Yes, I received something in the mail from Professor Ozpin a few days ago."
Blake: "Him knowing where even the most secretive people live seems to be pretty... widespread. It's like he knows everything. If you want, I can skip class and we-"
Kali: "Young lady! Skipping class? I thought I raised you better than that!" she playfully scolds her daughter.
Blake: "Hehe, it was just a joke, mom." She bumps into someone. "Oops, sorry." She looks up to see who it was. "Oh, Ichigo. I didn't see you there. Mom, this is Ichigo Kurosaki, one of my teachers. Ichigo, this is my mom."
Kali directs her focus to a black-haired boy with piercing red eyes. He's a teacher? Well... His frame shows that he's well-built at least, but his face seems to be a combination of boyish charm layered onto manly features. He looks like he's Blake's age at most, if not younger.
Ichigo: "I'm Ichigo Kurosaki. It's nice to meet you."
He extends his hand to her and she takes it, a firm handshake between them showing he knows professionalism, even for a teen.
Kali: "Kali, Kali Belladonna. Thank you so much for taking care of my daughter. I hope she isn't too much trouble, is she, Professor Kurosaki?"
Ichigo: "Please, call me Ichigo. Being called 'Professor' is only for the people who'd rather not call me it. As for Blake, she's a quiet girl. Always does her homework, usually has her nose in a book. Only trouble she gets into is with her team, but that's mostly on them. Well, whenever the White Fang isn't involved."
Kali's heart drops. The White Fang!? Does he know about her activities in the White Fang!? Is... Is she still in it!?
Kali: "Umm, Blake? What exactly does he mean by that?"
Blake: "I-It's not what you-"
Ichigo: "I mean like that time she tried stopping the White Fang from stealing some Dust. When was that...? I think that night was when we met, actually. I had also heard she was involved in the Breach, which was caused by them as well."

Kali: "You... You're fighting against the White Fang?"
Blake: "I-I-" she stutters.
Kali takes her daughter in her arms and hugs her tightly, not wanting to let go out of both being proud and for fear of Blake's safety. Then again, fear comes with being the parent of a Huntress.
Kali: "Oh, honey! I am so, so proud of you!"
After a few moments of burying Blake in her chest, she lets go and lets her breathe while Ichigo's staring with a severe case of confusion.
Ichigo: "Umm... Right. If you have any questions for me, feel free to ask."
She did have a few questions for him. Not so much about Blake anymore, but more about him. He's a handsome man, has a job, and must be strong if he's a teacher at Beacon. What kind of person is he though?
Kali: "I did have a few. How old are you Ichigo?"
From years of dealing with people both in the legal and underground worlds, Kali's gained the ability to read people rather well. Blake probably didn't catch it, but right as she asked that question, Ichigo went through three changes in his expression. The first was one of confusion. He probably wants to know why he's being asked. The second was out of annoyance. He probably gets asked that a lot, given his appearance. And the third change was back to his professional poker face. It looks like he has some practice in keeping his feelings close to the chest.
Ichigo: "I'm fifteen years old, almost sixteen. I know I'm young to be a teacher, but Ozpin offered me the job, so I just went with it."
Blake: "Ichigo's a really strong Huntsman, maybe even stronger than-"
She cuts herself off before finishing her sentence, but Kali knew what she was going to say.
Ichigo: "Strong than who?" he curiously asks.
Of course he'd be curious who they're comparing him to.
Kali: "...than my late husband." she says solemnly.
Ichigo: "I... I didn't know. I'm sorry." he apologizes.
Blake: "Don't. You didn't know. There's no need to apologize..."
The trio stands in silence for a few moments, before Kali speaks up.
Kali: "...he was the leader of the White Fang before the current leader. Ghira Belladonna. Have you heard of him?" Ichigo shakes his head. "I'm surprised... Anyway, one day, there was supposed to be a meeting between him and a group of humans to establish peace between us. It was a small step for peace and equality everywhere, but it was still a step in the right direction. As Blake mentioned, he was incredibly strong himself, but he was also very kind. Out of concern for the humans, he left his escort behind. He didn't want them to worry about being outnumbered. A scout was sent anyway to keep an eye on him, but... When the scout returned, he reported that both he and the humans he was meeting with were killed by human supremacists. I left the White Fang after that out of grief... Blake..."
Blake: "I joined for revenge, but... I eventually learned that being violent like that, wanting revenge on all humans... I'm no different than the humans who killed my father."
Ichigo puts his hand on her head and starts rubbing it gently.
Ichigo: "I'm so sorry. I... I know what it's like to lose a loved one."
Both Kali and Blake look up at him, Blake with his hand still on her head, and see his previously friendly eyes turned downward, as if he's remembering something traumatic.
Ichigo's POV
Ichigo: "My mother was killed by a Grimm. She confronted it right before me to defend me from it. My village was slaughtered and I was on my own. But... What I learned that day was how to be strong, not just for me, but for anyone who needs me."
Yuzu, Karin, himself... They all lost a mother that day. If Grand Fischer hadn't shown up, they'd still have Mom. If that Hollow wasn't there, she'd probably be scolding him about now. If it wasn't for him running off to Grand Fischer's lure, she'd still...
Blake: "Ichigo..." He's still petting her head, her cheeks showing bright shades of red. "C-Could you..."
Ichigo: "SORRY!" He immediately takes his hand off her head. "I-I was remembering some stuff and got distracted. I'm sorry."
Blake: "I-It's fine..."
Ichigo: "Well, umm... Ahem! Thank you for sharing that with me. I know those types of things are difficult to talk about, so... I'll let you get on with your day."
Kali's POV
Ichigo leaves her and her daughter and Kali notices Blake touching the top of her own head, between her cat ears, where Ichigo was petting her.
Kali: "Oh? Like that did you?"
Her daughter blushes even more, indicating the answer to that question.
Blake: "N-No! I was just... caught off guard... I never knew that about his past. I thought he was always strong, but to think he knows what it's like..."
Kali: "Does my little girl have a crush?"
That pushed her over the edge. Blake's eyes widen as her cheeks increase their redness.
Blake: "N-No! Of course not!"
Kali: "Really? If that's the case, then he's single, right? He's fair game for me, then. I'm single now."
Blake: "H-How could you even suggest that! He's twenty-two years younger than you! He needs someone younger!"
Kali: "Like you?" she playfully suggests.
Blake: "T-That's-"
And with that final nail in the coffin, Blake walks away from her mother, angry and embarrassed.
Weiss's POV
The Schnee Family is a rather... busy one. Weiss and Winter's father is too busy taking care of his company and their mother spends most of her time drinking and avoiding him. Their family hasn't been a happy one in a long time, but that won't stop Weiss and Winter, two sisters who, despite some of their interactions, actually love each other, from having fun together. Their day out consists of training, teatime, a spa treatment, and some shopping. Weiss received special permission to skip classes as her training with Winter is an acceptable substitute.
Winter has the day off and is choosing to spend it with her younger sister. What Weiss doesn't know is that Winter requested the day off specifically to spend with her.
After Training and Lunch
With training and lunch complete, the next thing in their itinerary was their spa day. Weiss booked an appointment at one of the best spa resorts in Vale, which Vale surprisingly has a few of. Inside the sauna, the Schnee girls sweat out toxins, but not sweat like they did in training earlier.
Winter: "Weiss, I have been meaning to ask you about something."
Weiss: "Hmm?"
What could she mean? They've been talking about her classes and how well she's been doing all day. She's even regaled Winter with some of her adventures with her team, not that Winter was very impressed. Yup, still strict as ever, but still kind.
Winter: "It's regarding that man, Ichigo Kurosaki. I understand he's your teacher now."
Why is she asking about Ichigo? Weiss's cheeks flare up slightly, and not from the heat of the sauna.
Weiss: "W-Why are you asking about him?" she asks nervously.
Winter: "I heard a rumor that you went out with him. Is this true?"
The way that Winter asks things is slightly intimidating, but that's just her personality. She probably doesn't mean to do it.
Weiss: "Y-Yes it is, but i-it's not what you think! I was just... He did me a service and I was showing my gratitude."
Of course, that's not completely true. That was only a pretense for wanting to go out with him, even dating him. But since that day, they haven't exactly talked all that much, what with Ichigo being extremely busy since becoming a teacher and dealing with the ELEVEN WOMEN LIVING IN HIS DORM!
Weiss (thoughts): 'It was a wonderful evening and I want to do it again soon...'
Winter: "Weiss, I want you to not get too close to him."
What? Why!?
Weiss: "Winter, I-"
Winter: "Listen to me. We don't know anything about him. I probably shouldn't tell you this, but General Ironwood has asked me to keep an eye on him. We know what he's told us, but we don't know how much of it is true, if any of it is. He's extremely strong, but that also makes him extremely dangerous. We don't know what else he could be hiding, so erring on the side of caution-"
Weiss: "I know what he's told me is true!" She stands up from the sauna bench. "When we went out together, he told me about his past, how his mother was ripped away from him and he was all alone. I know he wasn't lying!"
Winter: "But Weiss, he could be-"
Weiss: "No, you listen to me now! No matter what he's hiding, I know that the pain he went through was real. I saw it in his eyes. I want to stand by his side and help him because I am a Schnee and we Schnees help those in need!"
Winter sighs and relaxes, letting the steam of the sauna do its work.
Winter: "You know you could get hurt. I only want to look out for you. Idiot little sister..."
She knows Winter means well, but she doesn't know anything about Ichigo. Granted, Weiss doesn't know all that much about him either other than parts of his past, but she knows his past has made him strong and that she wants to do everything in her power to help him, because...
Weiss (thoughts): 'Because I love him...'
Winter's POV
Winter, seeing his little sister's sad smile, grows even more curious about Ichigo despite knowing how potentially dangerous he is.
Winter (thoughts): 'Ichigo Kurosaki... What have you done to sway my proud baby sister's heart so much?'
Yang's POV
Yang: "You're not getting the best of me old man!"
Tai: "I'd like to see you beat me!"
Yang throws a punch at her father. He dodges it with ease and trips her, making her fall. She rolls to recover and uses his experience and cockiness against him, disguising her movements as her flailing out of control.
After meeting, Yang and Tai wanted to train a little while Ruby's eating some cookies that Tai brought for both of them, despite Ruby's self-claim to them. She watches her sister and father duke it out in the most Xiao-Long way possible, by punching each other until one goes down. Well, that is if Yang could land a punch on him. As a fully-trained Huntsman, even one that's somewhat rusty, that's a tall order.
Yang: "YAAAH!"
She throws a Semblance-enhanced punch, one that he blocks instead of dodges. Using her Semblance, she's both faster and stronger than she is normally. However, the drawback is...
Tai: "No you don't!"
He takes advantage of a weak point in her defenses and punches her in the stomach, making saliva come from her mouth as her fiery hair dies down. She holds her stomach in pain while Ruby keeps eating her cookie, having known the outcome. She's never beaten him before and while she's performed better this time, the gap between them is still fairly wide. However, out of the corner of her eye, Yang sees her cousin/love interest, Ichigo, watching the fight.
Yang "I-Ichigo!? *cough*" She coughs up a bit more saliva as Tai helps her to her feet.
Ichigo: "Hey Yang. Ruby. I see you're getting your butt kicked here. You could stand being knocked down a peg or two." he teases. "You're getting a little cocky in your training."
Yang: "Ha! As if! I think you're just not being tough enough!"
Tai's POV
Tai (thoughts): 'Ichigo?' He looks at the young black-haired man standing before them, then to Yang, and then back to Ichigo. 'Who's he?'
Ruby: "Dad! *cough cough*" She nearly choked on a cookie, beating her chest to get it to go down. "*huff* Dad, that's Ichigo!"
This 'Ichigo' walks in to the training room and extends his hand to Tai, who takes it.

Thanks for reading! 💙] No one ever knows the whole story. Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, the fading town of Rallsburg stumbles upon an amazing discovery—magic itself. Faced with potentially world-shattering power, the people of Rallsburg keep the secret for themselves. Led by Rachel DuValle, a perpetually underestimated college student with grand ambitions, they seek to found a new society. The world beyond suspects nothing, but magic cannot stay hidden forever. A train arrives in Rallsburg carrying Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate. To him, magic could represent meaning for his life, an explanation for his empty existence. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever—or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series, focused on the modern world with a twist. New societies bud and grow, but the people who make them up are imperfect and flawed. The story includes elements of mystery, action, crime, interpersonal drama, relationships, philosophy, sociology, politics, and much more, all centered on the perspective characters driving the tale. This is the "Scraps Edition" of the story, where the chapters have been split up into bite-size chunks (roughly 1500-3000 words), for your convenience. The prose has been edited from its original form, with some improvements, but there are no content differences from the original. New chapters will be posted throughout each week starting on Friday and appearing on multiple days thereafter, depending on the length of the chapter.
