《MELODY》TWENTY-TWO/ CHRISTMAS IN NY
Advertisement
It was officially Christmas Eve and Kiara was doing some last minute packing to go to her moms house. She honestly didn't know how to feel about the holiday or even her mother at the moment. She saw that Shivani was trying to build a relationship with her daughter but it was hard, Kiara had to tell her all things her mother should already know, like her favorite color, foods she didn't like, why she grew to photography. Kiara was surprised that she knew her birthday, but she promised Ms. Gonzalez that she'd be on her best behavior and that she'd at least give her a chance. Kiara zipper her bag up and waited for Ms. Gonzalez to call her to come down. She made sure her phone was fully charged, the ride to upstate was no joke and Kiara hated them, the last time she did it, her and her granny were going away for a weekend and she dreaded the ride. It was currently 6 am and they were expected to arrive to her mothers house around 9. A few minutes passed and Kiara got into the car with Ms. Gonzalez. They hit the rode. They sang songs and caught up on things since they haven't seen each other in a while. During the ride she texted Darien, informing one another that they either were at their destination or that they were on their way. They played IMessage games to pass time and eventually they stopped. As Kiara rapped along with Drake her phone vibrated showing a notification from Khari in the group chat they were in with Armani.

Kiara tapped on the message and a smile grew across her face as the picture of him and his siblings in matching elves outfits, which Kiara assumed were for a family holiday portrait.

Kiara shook her head at the two, she responded sending laughing emojis back. Kiara put her phone back onto the charger and put her seat back next closing her eyes.
2 hours passed and Kiara was woken up by an aggressive shake. She opened her eyes in fear seeing Ms. Gonzalez telling her to wake up.

"We're here Kiki." She heard, Kiara rose and put her seat back up. She looked out of the window seeing the big, beautiful home. It was decorated beautifully with Christmas lights and decorations. The home looked as if it could house an entire family of 6. It had a yard and it was covered with white, fluffy snow, which made Kiara want to show her childish side.
"At least we know she wasn't living hard." Kiara said unbuckling her seat belt.
"Kiki, promise me you won't snap or anything once you see the inside or her." Ms. Gonzalez begged.
"I won't, the nap took my anger away." Kiara joked but not getting a laugh or even a crack of a smile from Ms. Gonzalez. "I promise I won't."
The two women stepped out of the car and Kiara grabbed her belongings from the trunk. She threw her night bag over her shoulder and walked to the door. Approaching it made her feel smaller than she already was. As Kiara raised her hand to knock on the door, the door was swung open by a little boy who looked to be around the age of 8. The boy looked up at Kiara like he wanted to scream. Kiara cracked a smile and he returned it back.
"Are you Kira?" He asked in a soft tone, mispronouncing her name.
"I'm Kiara, and you are?" She asked with a smile.
"I'm Noah!" He said excitedly, giving Kiara a bigger smile causing her to smile back, this one warmed her heart. "Mommy! Kira's here!" He yelled as he grabbed Kiara's hand pulling into the home. Kiara turned to Ms. Gonzalez, waving goodbye next closing the door behind her.
"Mommy! My sister is here!" Noah said showing Kiara off to the group of older women in the kitchen. Kiara's heart dropped straight to her ass once seeing her mother and what she assumed were other relatives.
"Hey, how was your ride?" Shivani asked walking over to Kiki next hugging her. Kiara stood in place not wrapping her arms around her mother. The feeling of Shivani's wrapped around Kiara felt strange and she honestly didn't like it but Kiara eventually hugged her back so she wouldn't make her feel bad or look bad in front of her loved ones. "Let me show you your room." Shivani said reaching for Kiara's bag.

"I got it, thank you." Kiara said giving her a smile, Shivani gave her an uncomfortable smile and then began walking to where Kiara would be sleeping.
"Here's your room. If you need anything don't hesitate to ask. There's a bathroom right through that door. Dinner will be ready at 7, maybe." Shivani said to Kiara as Kiara looked around the room in awe. The room was bigger than Kiara's whole apartment. "Listen, I really wanna build our relationship and I was hoping this would be a start but if you're not ready I'm not going to force."
"I came because I'm giving you a chance. So if you really want to start this, I need you to not fake for me in front of your family."
Kiara informed her.
"Okay, I respect that. Oh we're waiting on one more person, Adrian had pick up his daughter, I think you'd like her, she's around your age." Shivani said next exiting the room. It was now 2 in the afternoon and due to all of the holiday traffic it took Kiara longer than expected to get there.
Kiara threw her bag down on the floor and flopped onto the bed letting out a deep sigh. She looked up at the ceiling wondering how this was about to go. She had been in contact with her for the past month and she can say that her mom was trying hard to restore something. Kiara picked up her phone going to her messages about to text Armani but once she clicked Mani's name, Khari was FaceTiming her.
"Hey, what's up?" She asked answering the phone.
"Nothing much just checking in, making sure you got to your moms crib safely." Khari said.
"Yes. I'm here. Safe and sound." Kiara laughed.
"That's good. What you doing?" He said laying back putting his hand on the top of his head.
"Nothing about to hop in the shower and get ready to meet my sister." Kiara sarcastically spoke causing Khari to laugh.
"Why you say it like that?" He laughed.
"Cause, I thought I was the only one." She rolled her eyes. "What if she rude and you know ion like rude people Khari."
"I know Kiki. Don't go into that mindset though, you may like her. She might be cool as hell." He shrugged.
"You right." Kiara said walking into the conjoined bathroom. She sat the phone up on the sink and began to throw her hair into a messy bun.
Khari just watched her get herself together. She looked beautiful with her hair up and all he could do was take in her beauty. "Ard call me when you get out shower mamas." Khari said cashing Kiara to widen her eyes in shock but then shook it off.
"Ok. I'll talk to you later." Kiara said next hanging up the phone. She turned on the shower and got in. Once she got out she put on a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt she just purchased. She slid on her 1's. When it was time for dinner she hung up the phone with Khari one last time and walked downstairs.
"Right on time, we were just about to set the table. Adrian, this is my daughter Kiara." Shivani introduces Kiara to her stepdad.
"Hi, nice to meet you." Kiara said shaking his head with a smile.
"Ari, is in the bathroom, she should be out in minute." Shivani told Kiara. Kiara nodded and sat at the table and examined the room and the people in it.
"Mom, y'all need more soap in the bathroom, I looked but there-." The young women said stepping out of t he bathroom and walking over to the kitchen stopping in her tracks once seeing Kiara. "Kiki!" She said shockingly. Kiara turned around seeing Armani standing behind her in shock, cause Kiara to be shocked as well.
"You're my sister?" Kiara asked, not believing anything that was going on at the moment.

Captain Critiques: A Grumpy Pirate Review Book
(CURRENTLY OPEN)When it comes to reviews, I'm probably as harsh as the hellhole most story ideas crawl out of. I'm blunt, sarcasic, to the point and I know what I like in a story. As you can probably guess, you don't wanna take my advice if your like an overprotective mother about your story. Who am I kidding, EVERYONE is like that about their stories. But, if you could find the courage to pry the story out of your cold, crabby hands so I can give my brutally honest opinion then be my guest. Just don't try and start a fight once I provide it. You DON'T wanna fight a pirate. .................................. I reserve the right to decline stories as this will be taking up quite a bit of my time and if I say no, I mean NO. If your blurb is unreadable I will decline it. If it includes the genres mentioned in my 'Hell No' section then I will send it back where it came from.Do NOT critique the Captain.
