《Mr. Boss | ✓》XVI

You watch as the letters on the textbook dance before you. Taking a deep breath you shut your eyes and feel them immediately begin to burn.
You've been putting off university work, that's now piling up on your desk, thanks to your lousy boss who needs you for everything. And as things have been calm for a while at work, with no major blunders, you finally found yourself enough time to catch up with your assignments.
I have to finish this unit tonight! I have to!!
Your phone begins to buzz causing the surface of the desk to vibrate. You snatch it up, muttering under your breath.
Not him again.. please.
You're phone screen reads "Do Not Answer" which means only one thing.
"What do you want now, Jeon Jungkook?" You whine into the phone, not bothering to conceal your annoyance.
"Come over. Hurry up!" You jump up at how panicked he sounds.
"What's wro-" a loud beep signals the end of the call.
Moving as fast as your body would allow you to slam the door shut behind you and run down the stairs taking two steps at a time. You glance down at your phone to see the time.
1:45 AM... There's no way I'm getting a cab at this time.
You don't notice the rumbling overhead until the hands of lightening pry open the sky and fat raindrops begin to fall. But you don't care, you keep moving.
The rain begins to fall hard, soaking through your clothes and making them feel like lead.
Finally, you reach his apartment and begin running up the stairs. Your heart beating hard against your chest.
You burst in through the door, panting.
"Jungkook-ah! What's wrong? Are you okay?" You call into the seemingly empty apartment.
But the minute you enter the hall and take in the sight before you, a fierce heat possesses your body and you no longer feel cold from the rain.

Jungkook's sprawled across the sofa his phone in his hand. He lazily looks up to acknowledge your presence and gives you an even lazier smile.
"Why did you call me?" Your voice is slow and menacing.
But he doesn't notice it. "I'm hungry. And I feel like having Ramen. Make me some. Everything you need is in the kitchen."
You snort at his words. "Wait a minute. You mean you called me in the middle of the night just so I could make you some Ramen?"
"Yup. Is there a problem?" Jungkook asks without looking up from his phone.
You let out a dry mirthless laugh which causes him to finally look up in confusion, you think you see a bit of panic in his eyes.
"Is there a problem? Yes, Jungkook there IS a problem! And the problem is that you don't understand that my world doesn't revolve around you! This damn world doesn't revolve around you! I have a life outside this nonsense. Do you think I enjoy working for you? I don't! I hate it, Jungkook. You're the most selfish person I've ever met." Your breathing gets fast and as Jungkook opens his mouth to speak you hold up a warning hand to stop him.
"You made me drive 7 km to buy you banana milk when we were in the middle of nowhere. I didn't say anything. You left me to walk all the way to that gym of yours with food that you didn't even eat in the end. Yet, I didn't say anything. You make my life a living hell. I don't say anything. But today you've crossed the line! I left everything behind and came running here because I thought you were hurt. Stupid me!" You feel your face burn and your heart beats fast as if you'd been running
"Y/N, I didn't think-" Jungkook begins.

"That's what, Jungkook!! You never think of other people! You're too busy thinking about yourself." And with that, you turn around and leave.
Your hands don't stop shaking.. you clench them into fists hoping it would help.. but it doesn't. And before you know it you completely give up and let the tears flow. You've had enough.
Why does this always happens to me? Why can't I just live a normal peaceful life?
Hugging yourself against the cold rain you walk all the way back home.
But, was Jungkook's action tonight the only thing to trigger your anger? Or did Jungkook's unwillingness to acknowledge the incident that hurt you play a role too?
She's gone, her words echo in his head but mostly they sting.. worse than any wound he's ever had. Now that she's gone the apartment feels empty and haunted.
Does she really hate me so much? What do I care? It's not like I have feelings for her. She's just some ordinary girl.
The words feel empty and meaningless as he tries to convince himself.
Earlier that night he'd aimlessly walked around the empty apartment. The members had all gone off homes for a short holiday... Everyone except Jungkook. But this wasn't the first time he'd found himself alone in this huge apartment. He quite liked being alone but somehow today he wanted someone to be with him...
Before he could talk himself out of it he dialled her number. His heart beat faster with every ring of the phone and nearly stopped when she answered...
"What do you want now, Jeon Jungkook?" She sounded annoyed but her voice had an effect on him.
Not trusting himself to speak too much he hurriedly said, "Come over! Hurry up!" And ended the call.
What do I say when she comes over?
Just then he saw an empty ramen cup and the idea came to him.
He had tried to keep himself away from her for the past few weeks. But soon came to realise that it was rather impossible. He would feel the urge to call out to her every time he'd see her with someone else, not because he needed anything but because he needed to be close to her. He couldn't help but feel the guilt bubble up to the surface every time he glanced at the fading bruise on the side of her forehead, maybe that was what kept him away: knowing he was what hurt her.
But the yearning had grown strong and had eventually pushed him to call her over.
Every few seconds he would glance down at his phone to see the time and would get frustrated that it wasn't moving fast enough. Then he heard it.. her voice calling out to him. She sounded out of breath and worried. Does she really care for me? The thought somehow brought about an odd satisfaction.
From the corner of his eye, he caught sight of her looking around for him and he held his breath.
He tried hard not to notice the way she'd pushed back her wet hair away from her face which made it easier for him to see her flushed cheeks. Or the way her clothes hugged the curves of her frame. But mostly the way her wet skin glistened under the lights. His eyes trailed from her neck to her lips. His body ached to touch her then, to hold her close. He gulped and looked away immediately.
He hadn't understood what was happening.. she wasn't herself today. Each word the left her lips felt like a blow to his heart. He was rendered speechless.
Just before she left he thought he heard her sneeze... And that was it.
