"Damien.. Are you sure this will work- I mean- don't you feel a little guilty for all thi-"
The brunette's words run dry as he watches Damien move his hand towards his hip. "R-right! I'll get things done sir."
Damien retracts his hand and glares at Ben. "Be back by seven thirty, a blond in downtown Manhattan has something for me and I want your help to get it out of him."
Benjamin nods and makes his way to an elevator down a hall. "Yeah, yeah.. Whatever." he says under his breath.
-------
You finish brushing your teeth as April walks in with popcorn and smoothies. "Ready for another episode?"
You grumble as you open your mouth, no luck. Your tongue was still stained blue.
"Sure, but I'll pass on the candy and smoothie. My mouth will look like I ate enough highlighters as it is."
April shrugs and walks towards your room again.
Just as you were about to go for another round with your toothbrush, there's a knock at the door.
"Wonder who that is." You say, putting your toothpaste and toothbrush down, turning off the bathroom light and walking to your front door.
For a moment you thought it may be the boys again; however, when you opened the door, you were pleasantly surprised.
"Oh, wagon-boy!" You smile brightly at the brunette. "Hey, twinkle-toes." He says with a nervous smile. "What brings you here so soon?" You ask, leaning against your doorframe.
"Oh, nothing much. I just decided now would be a good time to swing by, since school's over for today and all."
You shrug and step aside. "Want to come in? We have a lot of food."
"We?" He asks, stepping back a bit. You notice his expression stiffen. "Oh, don't worry, the boys aren't here, it's just my friend." You reassure him, thinking he may just be scared of the boys, which was understandable..
Ben looked to relax a little bit and he slowly stepped in. "This place looks nice in the day-time." His head goes on a small swivel. "Where's your friend?" He looks back towards you and you point towards your room.
"Hey, April!" You call. A few seconds pass and her head pops out from your bedroom. "Yes?"
It took her a moment, but eventually she noticed Benjamin.
"Who are you?" She asks, stepping out of your room and standing in the hall with her mom-pose. Her eyes were squinted at Ben. Who was this stranger and why were they with you?
"Hi, there! Um, I'm Ben, I take it you're April?"
She steps to you both with her lower lip poked out in suspicion. "Yeah, that's me."
Ben grins as best he could and extends one of his hands for April to shake. After a few seconds of awkward staring, her stern face falls and she shakes his hand.
"So what are ya', her boyfriend or something?"
Benjamin and you stammer protests and denials, eyes wide like saucers.
April's eyes widen too as she wrings her wrists, gesturing for the two of you to relax. "Okay, okay, I get it!"
After a couple moments of gathering your wits, you and Ben are finally silent.
As April stared at you too, she couldn't help but get a weird feeling about the new person in the room. April smiles and takes your hand without warning. She begins dragging you towards your room, "Excuse us for a minute- uh.. Benjamin." She says hastily.

Ben flinches a bit as your bedroom door slams shut in the distance.
For a moment he stands there, but then he remembers what he was there for in the first place.
"Perfect.." he whispers, his expression and tone depressed and a little angry.
-------
"April-" You were about to call her out, but she covered your mouth with her hand.
"Who is that guy and why is he here?" She harshly whispers. You swipe her hand away and glare at her. "He's an old friend of mine, I just reunited with him and said he could visit any time. Now just happens to be that time, I guess!"
April huffs and rubs he face, "(Y/n), you already have two guys going nuts, you don't want to string along ano-"
"It's not like that!" You yelp in embarrassment. "He's just an old friend. I don't even know much about him right now!" You continue.
April squints. "Is that so..?" she glances at the door in suspicion.
-------
Ben stumbles around your living room and kitchen, looking for the perfect place to put-
"There.." he says in a hushed whisper as he sees one of the floorboards in your living room was loose. With care he Took the plank of wood and slowly pried it up from the floor. His fingers scraped along the wood as it was finally pried up and two small screws stuck out. Below was a small gap beneath the wooden floor. So, Ben glances around then pulls three small cardboard boxes from his coat pockets, before finally proceeding to stuff them under the floorboards. When they were in place he paused for a moment and just stared at them.
"This is wrong.
No.. I have too,
before everything is figured out."
He thought. He still remained crouched and staring at the objects he'd placed, still feeling guilty. However his last thought was enough to snap him out of it.
"If you don't do this, he'll replace you."
With that, Benjamin slides the panel of wood back on and stands up, stomping on the board just to be sure it was back in-place. "I have to do this.." He sadly states.
With a stoic expression, he looked up towards your room and decided to go and see what was going on. Benjamin ran his thumb and index finger over his mustache and put on his best smile, then proceeded to walk towards your bedroom door.
With caution, he knocked. Instantly, the door swung open. "Hey, Benny-boy!" It was April who sarcastically greeted him. Ben timidly greeted her back and glanced past her at you. You were sitting on the floor, texting someone. You looked stressed.
April, huffs and swings her backpack over her shoulder. "C'mon, (Y/n)!" She says, slipping past Ben.
You reluctantly staggered to your feet and followed. You also managed to shoot Ben a 'you can come too' sort of look, so he followed quickly behind.
-------
"So, Ben, do you have a job- or a significant other- maybe something else to do?" April spit. You elbow her as the three of you walk towards her place.
Ben chuckles nervously. "I do work for a friend, I'm not seeing anyone and I don't have anything better to do. My sister is staying with my aunt for the afternoon."
"How convenient." April huffs, kicking a bottle cap that laid in the middle of the walkway.
Ben starts to feel a nervous sweat come on, "Something tells me I'm not wanted here-"
You shake your head and pat his shoulder. "No-No, i-it's not that. It's just, sometimes April can be a bit stubborn towards strangers."
"No, I'm no-" You cut her off by kicking her shin. She grumbles and turns away, crossing her arms.
"O-Oh, ok then." He stutters.
-------
As you all reach the side-street from April's home, she pulls you aside. Ben didn't protest one bit as April gave him a killer glare.
"Somethings off about that guy." She says, with no hesitation. You frown and your brows cross in frustration. "April, he's a friend. I don't understand what you're seeing that I'm not, but Ben seems fine."
She gives you a musing look as she holds your shoulders, "(Y/n), I lived with a ghost basically in my body, I'm guessing she gave me some sorta sense for trouble." She shakes your shoulders a bit, but you just pout. "Or you're just too paranoid. There's a reason you and Donnie are besties."
You chuckle a little at your own statement, but April doesn't. Instead she lets go of your shoulders and sighs. "I can't change your mind, but please.. Be careful."
You fall silent, not knowing what to say as she turns and continues without you.
Ben walks to your side and looks on at April. "Are we gonna keep following?"
You look down at the pavement and turn. "No, I think she needs some space." You say, walking in the opposite direction, back towards your own home.
Eventually, Ben jogs after you and brings up something you were dreading.
"So, I saw you looking pretty bummed out while on your phone. Is there someone stressing you out?"
You flush red in embarrassment. "Well- uh.. I don't know if I should say anything-"
"It's about those turtles, isn't it?" He glances at you from the corner of his eyes. His brown eyes burned into you. He knew. So, you just nod.
He grins. "So which one is it?"
You raise a brow.
"Which one has the eyes for you? Dork-o, Grouch-o or Cheek-o?"
Your face burns a bit more intensely. "Well.. that's not very specific."
Ben laughs, "I already can tell the purple ones got the hots for you and something told me you feel the same."
Your eyes widen. That's right.. He saw you boop noses with Donnie.
"I don't know if having 'the hots' for each-other is the right term.." You mutter, staring at the sidewalk, counting all the scuffs and cracks to occupy your mind.
Ben laughs again, "So, I was right!" He nudges your arm with his elbow. You smirk, "Well.. not entirely." This makes Ben's expression go from triumphant, to intrigued. "What do you mean?" He asks. You start doing little hops over every crack in the pavement, to keep yourself from chickening out. You were already in too deep.
"You saw the other, with the blue mask? Wears a smirk like it's sewn to his face? Seems too laid back? He's Leo."
Ben's eyes widened , but he said nothing, he just waited for you to continue. So, you did.
"Well, both him and Donnie or.. the 'purple one' as you call him, have feelings for me." Your face was on fire. This felt humiliating to talk about in front of a childhood friend. Benjamin gasps. "So, what you're saying is: you're playing a game with their feelings?"
You quickly shake your head in dismay. "No! It's not like that at all! I like them both back.. I'm just.. Torn between the two. Ya' know?"
Ben grins and turns away. "Ah, the game of love. A woman torn between two eligible bachelors. It really is just like a game." He states, taking a moment to fix his mustache before continuing. "The two men fight in an endless battle of one-upmanship, and somehow the woman has to choose. The prize is that woman's affections."
You simply listen as he speaks. For a moment you thought he was done, but he starts talking once-more.
"Sounds like the perfect storybook ending for an affair like this, but you have to remember; With this game, the battle of one man outdoing the other can lead into a never ending cycle. Until all that's left is anger, broken hearts and broken dreams."
Your face starts to fall as you try to process what he was telling you.
"And when one man finally wins, that affection may feel lackluster, being overblown in the fight, and disappointing when it's actually received. Along with that burning disappointment, comes burned bridges, as there's no-way those two competitors could ever see eye-to-eye again- I mean- not after one stole the other's love."
Ben finishes his rambling and looks at you, His face twisting into an expression of worry when he sees how stressed and concerned his tangent made you.
"Woah, hey. I'm sure yours will go smoothly. If they're really good friends I'm sure they'll be able to make up!" He says, putting a reassuring hand on your shoulder.
You heave in mild-panic. "But, they're brothers."
Ben's face stiffens, "Oh.." He looks at the ground. "Yeah, that's bad.."
-------
Donnie walks along the rooftops. He was two buildings away from yours. In his hands were a handful of flowers. But not any ordinary flowers. This is Donnie. No. He made them with titanium, which he painstakingly thinned and welded into flowers. Then he did what he could to incorporate some magic into them, as much as he dreaded it.
Now they could glow in the dark, without having any bad chemicals attached to them!
As he strolled along the roof, something caught his eye. It was you.
He grinned and got ready to run down and greet you, that is until Benjamin walked into view. Immediately after seeing him, Donnie paused, put on his goggles and put his talent of lip-reading to good use.
"So, Who do you have your sights set on?" Ben asked, teetering back and forth as the two of you continued to walk.
From the rooftops, Donnie leaned in, his heart thumping.
You smile bashfully and cross your arms, "Well, I think Both of them are super cool and sweet. But.. I've had feelings for Donnie for quite some time. He's just really dorky and cute, he's really fun to hang with too! "
Donnie raises his goggles, his eyes were wide and he felt his face tingle as he stared down at you. "Am I reading her wrong..?" Donnie whispers under his breath. Donnie flips his goggles back down and continues to read your conversation from afar.
"What about Leo though?" Ben asks, leaning in with furrowed brows.
You smile a little more, feeling even more bashful. "Well, at first I didn't know what to think of him. He is flirty and funny and laid-back." You shrug a little, "But as We started opening up to the idea of being a thing, I started to see a part of him I haven't seen before. He is so sweet and respectful, he's a gentleman, and he's not afraid to make the moves. That's especially nice, because I'm too chicken." You and Ben laugh.
Donnie huffs, "Of course. Leo's too confident for his own good."
-------
Donnie's continued to eavesdrop on your conversation all the way until you entered your apartment, which forced you and ben to go separate ways.
For a good while, Donnie waited for Ben to disappear a few blocks down and when he was finally gone, Donnie jumped down the building he was on, and got ready to make his move.
With a deep breath. Donnie walked up the staircase towards your apartment. When he was before your door, he felt his hands begin to shake. "Don't freak out. You're fun. You're dorky. You're cute!" He says, hyping himself up. Donnie did his best to quell his blush as he reached out and knocked on your door.

Cary Simms: The Fairy Mushroom Forest
From a young age, Cary Simms knew that she wasn't like the other boys her age. She didn't know why or how that was, but it seemed apparent to the bullies of her school. They would often call her names, chase after her after school, and beat her up when they could catch her. Her only protection, besides escape, was in the words of the Good Book. But that was before she stumbled into the supposedly haunted house at the end of her street. When a mysterious ring and a drawing on the back wall of the post office opened up a whole new world for her, things quickly went from weird to scary. At a new school, in a new world, surrounded by people who had access to magic, all Cary could think of was how to escape the witches that had her trapped there. It was only having her best friend by her side that gave her any comfort at all. ***This is my first attempt at a middle grade book, and would appreciate feedback. Please note, this is a second draft, and might not represent the final product.***
