《Frozen Heart》Chapter 11: A duet song

From fall to winter and winter to spring, the season kept on changing but my life was still constant. There wasn't anything exciting nor anything too boring. School was going on and so did my damn life.
Christmas came and I celebrated it with my bestie, Sanem. It was a real nice day. We baked and decorated a cake together, took pics and played some games. Waah- it was such a great and memorable day!
Then, Ava and Chloe's birthday went by like a normal day and so did the New Year. I can't believe that even my birthday went by just like any other day of the newly started year.
(I'm 18 y'all!! Finally out of the teenager zone. Well I'm writing this now and after 2 months, that is in 2023, I'll be turning 19. Time flies so fast!!)
What the hell am I doing being so quiet and still in my life?! I'm Rosie, the one who likes changes and momentum in life. Well here I am being as still as the water in a lake. I mean it's already the last week of January!
I don't know what to do. I don't wanna study for my upcoming weekly tests nor for the finals which is in the next month. Rather than studying, I'm too drawn into reading comics and stories while writing my story as well ;)
"Damn!!!! I don't have anything to wear in the farewell party", I said.
"Chill Rose. You can buy one right? We still have time for it", Stella said trying to calm a frustrated me.
I pout sadly to which Stella says, "Oh God why so cute bish!"
"I told the MC that we're performing a duet", Loren said while walking towards me and Stella.
I just blink in confusion, "We're performing for real?!"

Hearing this Stella and our other friends go, "You're performing?!"
Loren, one of Stella's friends who is now my friend as well is quite popular in school. She's a pretty girl and that's what makes her bratty about herself. Well nevermind that.
Just a few days ago, I asked Loren that "Can we perform a duet in the party?"
She likes singing and has a melodious voice so why not. Well, I didn't think that she'll be taking it seriously atleast not this much to tell the party MC directly.
Anyways, we started listing out some "popular among the teens songs". After that we planned at whose place to meet to practice and make the instrumental for the duet. We preferred her place more as hers is a bungalow and mine is just a normal, small house without any extra or private rooms. Well this was all discussed on a phone call not in person.
"The party's after 2 days. How are we gonna manage everything?" This question was being brought up now and then, either by me or by Loren.
We prepared the instrumental in 3-4 hours. It was difficult to select the songs on which the students will be vibing. We mashed up some part of the songs and it's 6-7 minutes long now. We decided which song will be after which one, did the line distribution and practiced just a little as it was already very tiring to do the startup work.
"Geez it's finally the day! We're doing quite good but what if we fuck it up during the actual performance?" Loren looked at me nervously.
"It'll be fine don't worry. Okay so you need to focus on these lines and melody." And just like that I continue telling her where she's going off pitch and out of melody.

We've been practicing since noon and now it's time for me to leave her place cause I need to get ready for tonight's eve. I'm so excited yet nervous too. I'm just worried, as we didn't get enough time to practice, we're getting off pitch and sometimes messing with the lyrics. Hope this doesn't happen during the live performance *Finger cross🤞🏻*.
I get back home and ate whatever I found in the kitchen as I was in a hurry. Well ofcourse I ate something edible and cooked. After that, I went to Sanem's house as she's gonna do my makeup. Did I forget to tell you that she's my makeup artist as well?
After approx 2 and a half hours later, I was all set to leave for the venue. One of my brothers, ofc not blood related one, dropped me at my home and there Stella came to pick me up. Off we went to enjoy tonight's eve.
Stella wore a long, yellow coloured dress. She kept her hairstyle and makeup, simple and light respectively. All in all, she is looking pretty today.
I wore a simple full sleeved black dress. It was short but it's ok. I wore black boots reaching upto my knees, ofc wearing stockings inside it. Sanem did a simple work on my hairstyle pinning my hair with a large and beautiful hairpin. For jewellery, I tried to minimize it as much as possible.
Well wanna see my outfit?? Here it is~
(In real, your Author wore a two piece. A long skirt with a long top. It had floral designs on it and the colour of the dress was in the shades of blue. Most of my college mates liked my outfit plus the eye makeup. Some even asked me from where did I buy that dress. Haha funny right?)
Loren came a bit later after we arrived and she wore a white long dress with minimum makeup. I noticed that we're going total opposite like she's wearing white and I'm wearing black, great!
The MC told Loren that we gotta prepare ourselves as our performance will be the second act of the party. The first act is a ramp walk. While having a final practice for the performance, we both missed the ramp walk. I wanted to walk on the ramp but I guess it wasn't in my luck.
Now then, the MC announced our names and after climbing the stage, everything just happened in a blink of an eye and our performance, our duet song was done. I just heard the loud applause of the audience.
"You did it! You were so amazing Rose!" Stella said excitedly while side hugging me.
"Really?! I hope it was." I smiled sweetly at her.
"It was and especially you rocked it! Btw, here I captured some pics of you. Take a look." She showed me the pics.
Everyone was saying it was a blast and our performance boosted up everyone's energy cause it was in the beginning of the party. Everybody liked it. I even got to know that it was one of the best performances of that eve.
( Your Author still remembers how her palms were sweating profusely and her straight, expressionless face omg. A sight to look at and laugh. When I think of it now, I just think how stupid my face must be looking. Anyways, the farewell party was amazing for real and I enjoyed it!

The Last Marshal
Weird West Fantasy Noir Once the Republic Marshals brought order to the chaotic lands along the Frontier, facing dangers both human and supernatural with ancient wisdom and a six-gun —but that was a long time ago. Destroyed by conspiracy and betrayal, all that remains of that secretive order is one nameless man on a trek though the West seeking revenge on the woman he blames for the Marshals' fall and his disgrace. When a visitor from our world joins him on his journey, they together must confront the horrors of a strange land, the mysteries of the past and the real meaning of their quest for justice. The world of Tellus is what 19th Century Earth would have looked like if the stories of Poe, Ambrose Bierce, Lovecraft and William Hope Hodgeson were real. History in this world moves slower. The old faiths persist and civilization never conquered the dark corners of the map, at least not without being inextricably changed. Technology and culture takes a little longer to evolve in this land, as people here tend to spend more time pursuing their elaborate revenge plots or trying to avoid being the next sacrifice to the Outer Gods rather than advancing science or statecraft. Imagine Cormac McCarthy by way of Edgar Rice Burroughs, though a little less testosterone-drenched than that description would imply. Three caveats: First, there are deep mysteries here, including how such a world came to be and who controls it. Second, this world is not wholly unconnected from our own. There is a historical point of divergence, but in the distant past. To paraphrase Twain: history in this world is not a repeat of our own, but it does often rhyme. And finally, this is not a setting that lends itself to happy endings.
