Maddy's POV- June 2017

"Hey Maddy"

"Can you talk?" I asked.

There was a light pause.

"Are you okay?"

I looked at my phone and took a deep breath as I ended the call to answer the FaceTime call. My best friend, Alexandria appeared on the screen of my phone.

"You look nice"

I tried to smile at her, but I couldn't. She noticed, and asked.

"What's wrong?"

Just spill it, she's your best friend...it did have to do with her brother though...

"I can't do this" I blurted out.

The waterworks started earning a sigh from her.

"What did Auston do?"

"I don't have feelings for him" I said.

She snorted.

"About time you figured that out"

Wait what..

"What?" I asked.

She continued,

"I figured Auston would screw this up all on his own"

The thing is that I don't think I ever had feelings for Auston. Yes, he was an attractive guy but I was not attracted to him. He had a lot of growing up to do, and even though he claimed he was...he wasn't ready for a relationship.

"Start from the beginning"

Here it goes, I was going to be honest with her.

"Your brother was a total dick to me that week I stayed with him in December" I admitted.

I kept that to myself because I didn't want Alex to snap at Auston. Now that I think of it, I should have told her.

"What do you mean?"

"Two of his friends with benefits showed up to his place" I began saying.

"Which of the four?"

So she knew...wait...four?!?! Gross!

"Desi and Leslie" I answered.

She snorted.

"Those two are the worst"

Shaking her head she signaled with her hand.

"You've met them?" I asked.

"Yeah, It's why we stay at a hotel. Mom knows it happens, but she likes to pretend it doesn't happen"

"But four?" I wondered.

"He's clean, mom made him get tested"

I scrunched up my nose and she laughed.

"Continue your story"

"We went clubbing the night before I flew back to Florida" I began.

He got jealous because I was dancing with his teammates. If he had been the bigger person, he would have had asked me to dance. Instead he pouted and glared at his teammates when they asked me to dance and I said yes.

"And he left with a girl" I told her.

She gasped.

"He left you there?"

"Steph, Mitch Marner's girlfriend drove Morgan and I back" I stated.

It was quite humiliating.

"Please tell me that's it?"

I shook my head.

"When I got to the apartment, he was having sex with the girl he took home" I replied.

When I woke up the next morning, the apartment was empty. He was supposed to drop me off at the airport, but he never showed. I decided to be the bigger person, I even made him his favorite cookies before calling a cab. I left the spare keys he had let me use during my stay on the kitchen counter. He apologized, and hoped all would be forgotten. I would have done as he wished if he hadn't been an idiot and given me a pity gift.

"He gave me a Pandora Charm bracelet and I gave it back because it was a pity gift" I informed her.

"He gave it to Bre"

Of course he did, he re-gifted it to his little sister. "I take it there's more?"

"There is" I answered.

"Carry on"

"He was pretty pissed when he found out I was living with William and Kasperi" I said.

William was Auston's teammate, and Kasperi was William's best friend who was a prospect for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

"Oh I know that, he doesn't trust Kasperi"

"You do know he has a girlfriend, right?" I asked.

"My brother is a dumbass, I thought I had made that clear before"

She made it very clear.

"Anything else?"

"You know about the kiss during the Cali trip" I told her.

"That I do"

Auston and I kissed in my mom's car after I dropped him at the hotel he was staying, I know romantic.

"I told him we'd talk about us during the summer" I mentioned.

"Did you two say it was ok to see other people?"

"We never really discussed that" I admitted.

I know why she was asking that. Auston had been out on a few dates with a couple of girls.

"He found out I was talking with someonet" I told her.

"You could speak with who ever the hell you want"

She smiled and gasped when she realized what she had heard.

"You're talking with someone"

"We can talk about that later" I replied.

"What did my little bro do when he found out?"

"He flipped out" I answered.

She rolled her eyes.

"I was having a really shitty night" I began.

"Ahh, that night"

Even if we didn't speak with each other everyday, we kept up with each others lives. The night I was referring to was Game 1 of the Women's College World Series Championship Series.

"I wasn't having it, I told him to fuck off" I told her.

She laughed.

"Oh god, I love you. Has he called you to apologize?"

I shook my head.

"Well I apologize on his behalf even if he's old enough to do it himself"

I smiled.

"We actually got into a disagreement before that" I mentioned.

It had to do with my soon to be roommates, his teammates Kasperi and William.

"He didn't like that I texted them more than I texted him" I explained.

She rolled her eyes and shook her head.

"Did he apologize?"

"I called him when the Leafs were eliminated" I stated.

She sighed.

"You'd think my brother was raised by wolves"

"I can't be his date for the NHL awards" I confessed.

"You don't have to be his date. Mom can be his date, or he can go alone"

Auston was a finalist for the Calder Memorial Trophy, which was technically the Rookie of the year award for the National Hockey League. He had asked me if I could be his date, and I agreed. The NHL awards were next week in Las Vegas and I had yet to book my flight...I didn't want to book a flight.

"Was that the last time you two spoke? When you told him to fuck off?"

I nodded.

"Maddy, you're my best friend and I'm happy if you are"

I smiled at her.

"Now tell me about this guy"

I laughed and pushed my hair back.

"Oh my god, you are blushing"

"Stop, I think I ruined my chances with him" I admitted.

"Why?"

"I told him everything" I said.

"Really?"

I nodded.

"How long have you two been talking?"

"We started talking a little after Mothers day" I answered.

She hummed.

"You say talking, you mean actual phone calls or text messages?"

"Actual phone calls" I responded.

"How often?"

"Every single day" I stated.

She smiled.

"Really?"

I nodded.

"That's super cute"

That's what a lot of people thought.

"So I take it he asked you out on a date?"

"Yeah" I said.

"Have you given him an answer?"

I shook my head.

"He told me he'd let me think it over" I told her.

"You go on that date, its very obvious you have feelings for him"

"Really?" I asked.

"Yeah, you're literally glowing and smiling"

I hadn't noticed I was smiling.

"Not comparing or anything but you have the same smile on your face after your parents agreed to let you date Ivan"

Ivan was my ex-boyfriend.

"It sucks my brother couldn't make you happy, but that's his loss. You go out on that date and enjoy it. Also, you wouldn't happen to have a picture of him"

"I do not, but you can google him" I said.

"Spell out his name"

"C-O-D-Y" I spelled out.

She hummed.

"Continue"

"B-E-L-L-I-N-G-E-R" I finished.

"Ahh yes, an Arizona native"

I nodded.

"He's handsome, I give that to you"

She laughed.

"And he plays for the Dodgers"

"He does" I told her.

"I take it back you don't look nice, you look hot"

I smiled and pulled my hair up. My phone chimed and I looked at the top of the screen to see Cody had texted me.

"I'll let you go, it's late and you need to shower"

"You're not mad at me, right?" I asked.

"No, if I should be mad at anyone I should be mad at my brother for screwing what could have happened"

"I'm sorry" I said.

"Don't be, if anything I should be sorry for pushing you to date him. To be honest, my brother is not ready to commit"

That was very true.

"Alright, go shower. Love you and miss you"

"Love you too, and miss you as well" I replied.

She smiled.

"Night"

"Good night" I answered as I waved.

The call ended and I looked at Poppy who was purring against my leg. I reached down and picked him up.

"Let me shower and we can go night night" I said.

He meowed as I set him down on the bed. I stood up and quickly grabbed my pjs. Once I was out of the shower and in bed, I reached for my phone to reply to Cody.
