Madeline's POV- June 2017

"Mom, I'm home" I said as I made my way inside the house.

I closed the front door and smiled at Poppy who made his way over to greet me. He trilled as I reached to pick him up.

"Hi baby, did you just wake up from a nap?" I asked as I kissed his forehead.

I walked into the living room and looked around for mom.

"Mom?" I called out.

I knew she was home, her car was out front.

"I'm outside honey!"

I set Poppy down before making my way towards the kitchen. Opening the sliding door, I stepped outside.

"There you are" I said.

Mom was looking through a medical file, while taking in some sun.

"Madeline, when you said you were going to cut your hair I thought you were going to cut about an inch or two not a whole foot"

I ran my hand through my now short hair and shrugged.

"It will grow back" I replied.

She sighed and smiled.

"Are you going to keep it your true hair color?"

"Yes" I answered.

The last time I cut my hair this short I had my hair dyed brown. Over the years I had learned to embrace my dark (almost black) hair.

"Cody sent me a text about an hour ago"

"Did he now?" I asked.

She nodded.

"Yes, he asked if you were coming to tonight's game"

"And what did you tell him?" I wondered.

"I told him you were having lunch with some of the girls and heading to the game after"

"Ok, good" I answered.

"Did he think you were not going?"

"The NHL awards are tonight" I stated.

She hummed and nodded. I was supposed to be Auston's date, but I told him I couldn't go about a week ago. From the looks of it, his date was going to be his mom.

"Have you talked with Auston?"

"I have not, I decided to give him space" I replied.

"Well Cody wants to take you out to dinner tonight"

I raised an eyebrow.

"What if he asks tonight?"

Cody was going to ask me to be his girlfriend. Although my parents were divorced, I was still raised in a traditional home. That meant that Cody had to ask my parents if he could ask me to be his girlfriend. He even included Mike and Malin when asking, which apparently earned him more 'brownie' points.

"You're going to say yes, correct?"

Apparently I did not reply fast enough because she frowned a second after she asked.

"Madeline, you like the boy so why are you making things more complicated than they should be?"

"You do realize I will be moving to Toronto for school in September?" I asked.

"That's in three months Maddy, when the time comes you and Cody will talk about it"

My phone chimed.

"I need to go get ready" I told her.

"You look nice already"

"I'm not wearing sandals to a baseball game mom" I said as I walked away from her.

"Take a pair of heels to wear after"

"I will" I called out.

I quickly grabbed my jersey and reached for my phone when it chimed. Unlocking the screen I smiled when I saw Cody had sent me a text.

I quickly put on my pair of converse once I read the text.. If Cody did ask me to be his girlfriend tonight, I was going to say yes. There were simple moments where he would place his hand on my back, or just hug me and my stomach would instantly feel as if had butterflies flutter in.

"Mom, I'm leaving" I said as I made my way down the stairs.

"Have fun!"

I closed the door and made my way towards my car. My phone started ringing as I turned on my car.

"Hello" I greeted.

"Hey, are you going to lunch?"

"I am, do you want a ride?"

"Yes please, Corey is napping and I don't want to call an Uber"

"I'll be there in about fifteen" I answered.

"Thank you! See you then"

"Bye" I said.

She replied back and I ended the call. The drive to Corey's apartment was quick, and Mady was quick to get to the car.

"Maddy, only you can cut your hair that short and still make it work"

I smiled at her and waited for her to put on her seatbelt. When she did, I began driving.

"You look nice"

"Thank you" I replied.

I glanced at her.

"So where exactly am I driving to?" I asked.

"Right, give me a second"

The drive was not long, it turns out we weren't too far from the place.

"Oh my god, your hair looks even better in person"

Mariana, Kike's girlfriend pulled me in a hug.

"I missed you"

"I saw you yesterday" I pointed out.

"I didn't see you for almost a week before that!"

I smiled and pulled away from her.

"Did you get to donate this hair?"

"I did" I replied as I accepted the hug from Kelsey, Joc Pederson's fiancee.

The last time I cut my hair this short I chose not to donate it because it was dyed hair.

"Cody already can't keep his eyes off of you, wait till he sees you"

I looked at Mady.

"Want to share dumplings?" I asked.

She nodded and I turned to look at Kelsey who smiled.

"So Cody is taking you out after the game"

"How do you know this?" I wondered.

"Joc, you know how much he loves gossiping"

That was very true. A waitress came and we ordered our food. The second she left; Suzanna, Alex Wood's fiancee spoke up.

"We should eat Korean BBQ next time"

Kelsey's phone chimed and she smiled as she looked at the screen. It was Kourt who spoke up,

"I hope Cody finally asks you to be his girlfriend"

All the ladies nodded agreeing. To be honest I was hoping he would too.
