T W E N T Y - S I X
H E N R Y
i am slightly drunk.
i can tell this from the way my words are slurring; the way i stumble rather than walk; and from the way thinking seems very, very difficult all of a sudden. all i really want to do is go to bed for a year and eat lots of crisps.
(although that kind of thought isn't really that rare for me.)
as a result, i don't really to want so say, think, or do very much. unfortunately, isaac wants me to do the exact opposite.
"um," he says, raising his voice a little to speak over whatever crappy christmas song was now playing in the background, "an answer might be nice?"
answer, henry, i told myself sternly.
"i," i started, and then stopped.
that's good. now just a few more words and you'll have a whole sentence.
"i don't really know," i continue, and my shoulders slump. "i don't really know at all. that's the problem."
"can't you try to know?" isaac asks, sounding horrifically sober. "please? for me?"
"maybe i don't want to know," i reply, and look down at the ground.
i can almost see the frown on isaac's face. "a - are you scared to know? maybe the last time you knew... something went wrong? someone -"
"i think we've gone a bit far with this analogy," i whispers.
"maybe," he mutters back. "but c'mon, hen. just give me answer. yes or no."
"now?"
"now."
"how about... friends?"
i look back up; isaac is still frowning. "that wasn't an option?"
"i know," i say. "but think about it. we both have shit to sort out, but we still get to see each other - in a totally platonic, non liking-each-other way - and talk and maybe go shopping together because what you're wearing right now is hideous -"

"thanks," isaac says, surly. "but i'm not sure this is going to work."
"of course it will," i say brightly. "it'll be like before, but one hundred times better. you'll see."
but as we head back into the house, i can't help thinking that it might be a lot worse.

Soul of a Hunter
Nineteen-year-old Rex works with his childhood friend Cam to fight the monsters in the area around his town as the only Hunters protecting it. It's a quiet, peaceful life without much difficulty. Their work is worthwhile, the money is decent, and the locals treat them well. They are content. However, after they receive an ominous warning, the pair of Hunters must push themselves harder as they search for a potential issue in an attempt to put it down before it becomes a threat. When they track this new danger to its roots, however, they find themselves fighting tooth and nail just to protect their town. When that comes to pass, they can only hope to hold out long enough for reinforcements to arrive. No matter the risk, they will fight to protect their home, proving they possess the souls of true Hunters. [participant in the March-April 2020 Royal Road Writathon challenge]

Paranoid Mage
Attention Amazon: ID: PRI-PSCSXB97WPG Now on Book Two! Check the Volumes selector to make sure you start at the right place! Book One: Paranoid Mage Buy on Amazon! Callum had seen things all his life. There are monsters and beasts living among people, but he learned very early not to admit such things, not if he didn’t want people to think him crazy. It turns out that the supernatural is real, but at thirty Callum has no desire to be part of that secret. Not that he has a choice when it turns out he is a mage, albeit one that hasn’t cast any spells in all his life. There are requirements, duties, and education that the powers that be insist he be subject to. To hell with that. Book Two: Renegade Mage Buy on Amazon! After escaping from the Guild of Arcane Regulation and the Bureau of Secret Enforcement, Callum has lost his greatest protection: his obscurity. Now the powers that be know who he is, and hiding is harder than ever. Nor is hiding a plan, just a reaction. Now Callum is forced to decide how he wants to approach the supernatural world, and how he’s going to keep himself secure when the apparatus of government is arrayed against him. Even if he wanted to live as a mage, that bridge has been thoroughly burned, and even if he wanted to live as a normal person, he is far too deep to close his eyes to what he’s seen. He has to make his own terms. Paranoid Mage is an urban fantasy but it goes rather sideways from the normal stuff fairly quickly. Colossus' Legacy
This book is on hiatus and will resume soon.Every hero has their legend. An epic tale of the trials and tribulations that they overcame. These stories will remain long since they’ve departed, cementing their legacy in the annals of history. In the shadows of these glorious heroes, the Librarian observes. Unseen and unnoticed, he records their tales. The System’s power guides him forward, an unending search for his true purpose. Through the myriad of fantasy worlds, a dark truth is hidden from all. As the hundredth successor takes the mantle, the seems of their plot will begin to unravel. This is the standalone sequel to my first book, Colossus’ Dream. Reading the first book is not required. Both books share a universe and plot threads, but they can be read and understood independently from each other.
