Madeline's POV- October 2017
I was adding coffee to the coffee maker for tomorrow when William spoke up,
"Mads, are you going to bed soon?"
"Yeah, I'm exhausted" I answered.
"Well I mean, you did fly in from Arizona this morning and had 3 full on tutoring sessions then went and volunteered 6 hours at the hospital"
"I also came home and made dinner" I stated.
Not to toot my own horn or anything.
"Thanks for that by the way, dinner was great"
I made chicken enchiladas.
"No problem, I'm glad you and Kasperi liked them," I said.
The doorbell rang, and I looked at William.
"Were you expecting anyone?"
"No" I answered.
I knew better than to bring colleagues here and always met up with them on campus at the library.
"Do you think it might be Kappy's ex?"
I bit my lip and nodded.
"I'll answer it then" I said.
He nodded and stood up.
"I'll go get Kappy"
As he walked up the stairs, I made my way towards the front door. once the door was unlocked, I opened it and to my surprise, it was not Kasperi's ex-girlfriend. It was Auston, and by the looks of it...he had been drinking.
"Hey Mads"
He smiled.
"Can I come in?"
"Uh, sure" I replied.
I stepped back as he stumbled in. Unfortunately, he tripped over his own feet and took me down with him. My eyes widened a bit as his breathing hitched a bit and he stared into my eyes. His eyes then darted from my eyes and to my mouth.
"Auston, can you get off me?" I asked.
He slowly shook his head.
"I don't want to"
I scrunched up my nose as he hiccupped and all I smelled was alcohol.
"I missed you"
He began to lean in and frowned when I wiggled.
"You don't want to kiss me?"
"No, I want you off of me" I demanded.
He frowned a bit.
"Auston, I have a boyfriend" I reminded him.

In a matter of seconds, his mouth was over mine. My eyes widened as I realized what was going on. I opened my mouth and let out a shriek before I began to swat him. He tried to shield himself, but I slapped him a few times in the face. I screamed when he tried to pin both my arms above my head. He groaned as my knee made contact with his friend in between his legs. As he curled up, I shoved him off me and pushed myself as far away as possible from him.
"You fucking bitch!"
He tried to launch himself at me and I closed my eyes waiting for his weight to hit me all at once, but the impact never came.
"What the fuck is wrong with you!"
My eyes snapped open just as William and Kasperi pulled Auston up.
"Are you fucking drunk?! You do realize we have a game tomorrow!"
William shook his head as he shoved Auston out. I felt a hand on my shoulder making me look away from the door that had just shut close.
"Maddy, are you ok?"
Kasperi was hovering over me.
"Did he hurt you?"
"I'm ok" I assured him.
He nodded and helped me up.
"Are you sure you're ok?"
"He kissed me" I blurted out.
"Did you kiss him back?"
I glared at him and he raised his hands up.
"I'll take that as a no"
Damn, right I didn't kiss him back.
"Maddy, you didn't kiss him back"
"Cody is going to kill him when he finds out" I mumbled.
"He doesn't need to find out"
I looked at Kasperi.
"Of course he does. Look what lying did to your relationship" I snapped immediately regretting what I had said.
Apparently, his ex-girlfriend slept with Auston before she and Kasperi met. Yes, it happened before they started dating, but she hid that from him. Auston blurted it out during training camp, and Kasperi snapped. It was one reason as to why Kasperi didn't make the team.

"I am so sorry" I apologized.
Kasperi shook his head.
"Don't be, you're right. You didn't kiss him back though Maddy, you did nothing wrong. If it hadn't been for William, I would have kicked his ass"
I took a deep breath and bit the inside of my cheek as I heard a phone go off in the living room area.
"That must be Cody"
I could do what Kasperi was suggesting and pretend it had never happened, or I could tell Cody what had just happened.
"I have to tell him" I said.
Kasperi nodded and moved out of the way as I walked past him. Cody was, in fact, the person calling me, via Facetime. I sniffled and pushed my hair back as I answered the call.
"Hey"
Cody frowned the second he noticed I was wiping my face.
"What's wrong?"
I smiled and shook my head.
"I'm ok" I assured him.
"You're crying"
I took a deep breath.
"What happened?"
I sniffled.
"Promise you won't get mad" I began saying.
He slowly shook his head.
"I'm not making that promise Madeline"
I sighed and looked down at my lap.
"Auston kissed me" I said.
My attention snapped back to my phone when I heard nothing from Cody. I had personally never seen him this angry. His eyebrows were furrowed and his eyes were a darker shade of grey.
"HE DID WHAT NOW!"
"I swear I didn't kiss him back" I began to say.
His eyes softened a bit as he nodded.
"I trust you and know you would never do that"
The softness left his eyes and they got a little darker as the anger returned.
"It's him I don't trust. What exactly happened?"
"I was prepping coffee for tomorrow when the doorbell rang. Both William and I thought it was Kasperi's ex-girlfriend so he went to get Kasperi as I answered the door" I said.
"He was at the door though?"
I nodded.
"I don't want to give him an excuse for doing what he did but he was drunk" I stated.
"Don't defend him, Maddy, not after he has treated you like dirt"
Cody was right.
"He didn't hurt you or anything, right?"
"He tried to pin me down, but I fought him back" I answered.
Cody sighed.
"I hate that you're so far"
I watched as he placed his hand on his face and closed his eyes.
"What exactly happened?"
"He fell on me" I answered.
He slowly nodded and opened his eyes.
"But you're ok?"
I nodded.
"It's late over there"
It was almost 11 PM.
"We will talk in the morning, yeah?"
"You're not mad?" I asked.
He chuckled.
"Oh I'm pissed but not at you"
He sighed.
"Promise me something"
"What?" I wondered.
"If he kisses you again, punch him in the face"
I smiled.
"I doubt it will happen again, but if it does I'll do that" I promised.
"You need to go to bed, you've got a meeting with your advisor early in the morning"
I nodded.
"I'll call you after I'm out" I said.
"Ok, love you"
"Love you too" I replied.
He smiled.
"Sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite"
I laughed as he winked.
"Good night babe"
I blew a kiss at the screen and ended the call as Cody pretended to catch it. Kasperi cleared his throat making me turn my attention to him.
"Is he mad?"
"Oh he's pissed" I answered.
"Is he pissed enough to fly to Toronto overnight to simply punch Auston?"
I looked at him and unlocked my phone.
"What are you doing?"
"Making sure Cody doesn't do that" I responded.
Andrea, Chris Taylor's girlfriend would make sure Cody wouldn't do that. When I woke up the next morning I saw I got a text from Andi. It was a picture of Cody, who was fast asleep. Under the picture was a text message that said,
I kept trying to convince myself that Auston was eventually going to get his act together and accept that all he would ever be was a friend but that day had yet to come. At this point, I didn't think it was ever going to happen.
