Was your soulmate even alive?
Everyone had a soulmate. From the littlest paper cut to a broken leg, soulmates felt everything and anything. But you've never felt anything. Being a volleyball player, you felt bad for your soulmate because you had new bruises every other day.
A libero is the strongest defense that a team has, and with that came new bruises from getting the ball no matter what.
After volleyball practice had ended, you stayed a little longer to perfect a new move that you wanted to be ready for your next match, causing you to miss your bus. Since both of your parents were still at work, even though it was close to nine o'clock, it left you with two options.
1: Wait for another bus that wouldn't be here for another hour, or 2: walk half an hour back to your house.
You decide to walk back.
Once you began walking, a car drove up to the curb of the sidewalk and roll down it's window.
"(L/N)-san?"
You looked through the opened window and saw Ukai, the coach of the Karasuno Boys Volleyball team.
"Hey, Coach Ukai," you said.
He furrowed his eyebrows and stopped his car in front of you. With a cigarette in his mouth, he asked, "Do you need a ride? It' really late and you shouldn't be walking home alone in the dark."
"No, it's okay, it's not that far from here."
"Sure." He rolled his eyes and leaned over the passenger seat and opened the door for you, ignoring the honks from other cars from the sudden stop in traffic.
You got into the car and closed the door and buckled your seat belt. Your school bag and sports bag were both on your lap, weighing down on you.
"Why are you here so late anyways?" He put out the cigarette once you got into the car. He took it very seriously when it came to smoking around volleyball players. He didn't want to take a chance risking the health of their lungs. Though you could smell the second hand smoke in the car, the gesture was nice, so you didn't say anything.

"Practicing."
"Ah. Some of the boys just finished up too, but they have each other, so I'm not worried."
You nodded. It was silent in the car after that except when you gave him directions to your house. Once he stopped in front of your house, your opened the door and thanked him.
"(L/N)?"
You turned around. "Yeah?"
"Do you think you could train with our libero?" he asked. "He's been practising with our Ace, but I think it would good for him to work with another libero."
You've never practised with another libero before. The girl's volleyball team at Karasuno weren't the best the practise with. Though you did love every member one the team, most of them skipped because they didn't see the point in it anymore. So, there wasn't many people there to practise with.
"I'll do it."
Coach Ukai smiled. "Thanks. Are you free tomorrow? I know it's a Saturday, but Nishinoya is practising with the team everyday after."
"Yeah," you said, "that's fine."
"Thanks you. Meet at gym one at 9:00 in the morning. Have a goodnight."
"Night. Thanks again Coach Ukai."

"Ow...."
Your leg stung as you banged your leg on the corner of your bed frame. A small purple bruise appeared on your right leg in the middle of your tibia. It was clearly obvious that it wasn't an injury for volleyball.
Slowly, you made your way to school.
When you got there, the door to the gym was already opened and you could hear the faint thumps from a volleyball being bumped. You quickly changed your shoes and entered the gym.
A boy was in the middle of the court bumping the ball to himself. You ran up to him and received the ball just as it was about to touch his arms. The ball went straight up and you caught it before anyone got a chance to hit it again.

Nishinoya, who was still in his ready position, looked up at you and grinned. "You're the libero from the girl's team right? (L/N)-san?"
You nodded. You were about the same height, but you probably had a few centimeters on him. When you looked at him, you could tell that he had a strong build. Just like you, he had bruises everywhere, but one stood out to you.
On his right leg there was a bruises that could be from volleyball. It was in the middle of his tibia, just like yours.
"(L/N)-san? Are you okay? You were looking at me weirdly." He gave you a looked that was a mix of concern and embarrassed.
Aw, he seems worried about me, you thought. You nodded your head again.
He grinned at you once again and pointed to himself, jabbing his thumb into his chest. "I'm Nishinoya Yu!"
"I know. Coach Ukai told me. You're one of the best libero's right? I think I saw some of your matches."
Nishinoya's cheeks turned red and he looked away from you.
You smiled and threw the ball, that was still in your hand, lightly at his back. Once the ball collided with his back, you felt a small thump on your back.
He turned around. "You want to start now?"
Blinking at him, you slowly nodded your head and the two of you began practising.

You practised until both of you were on the floor. Each of you showed different moves and techniques that would definitely be a game changer during a match. Some of the other members from the boys volleyball team stopped by, but once they saw the two of you practising they left, not wanting to bother you.
After spending the whole day together, you got to know Nishinoya very well.
"(L/N)!! Watch this!!" he called. You put the last few balls into the basket and turned your attention towards him.
He was grinning at you. With a volleyball in his hand, he threw it into a basketball hoop that was on the gym wall. The ball hit the backboard and came back directly at Nishinoya. It hit his face and then bounced off to the side.
Nishinoya, who was now sitting on the floor, groaned in pain and held his forehead. You rushed over to him.
"Nishinoya-san you have to be—"
Your forehead started stinging and you placed your hand where it stung the most. It was in the same place where Nishinoya got hit.
"Are you okay?" he asked once he saw you holding your head. "Headache or soulmate?"
You closed your eyes. "Probably a bit of both."
"He must be clumsy." He tried to stand up, but he felt light headed and fell back down.
You felt another sharp pain, and lay down on the floor. "Ow."
Nishinoya looked at you. His eyebrows furrowed, he came closer to you and grabbed your arm. Giving you a lopsided smile he said, "Sorry."
He bought his arm down on your wrist and when he felt a strong sting, he let go of it.
"What did you do that for?" You glared at him. Now, you had three places that hurt.
Nishinoya bypassed your comments and smiled widely.
"What?" you asked. "Do you enjoy slapping my arm?"
He shook his head. "No!" He grabbed your arm again and slapped it. A grin spread across his face as he felt another sting.
"You're my soulmate! No wonder I never felt pain when you got hurt. We'd get the same injuries and think we did just did it ourselves!"
"Great," you said. "Now stop hitting me."
