i pulled the chair and sit back down.
"it seems my question was ambiguous. i'll ask again. am i the baby's father?" he started.
"no. i don't know why you keep on thinking that. you and i, jeon jungkook-sshi, there is nothing betw-"
"there was one night. i didn't use a condom that night. and it was your first time. contraception..." my eyes opened widely as soon as he started to talk about that night.
"yes, that's right!" i said a little bit louder than usual.
"i took care of it later. and you're not this baby's father. he's someone else. we're to be married soon. have i answered all your questions?" i make up a story. make sense, isn't it?
there was a long pause before he continued to speak.
"if what you say is true, that means you have a man you plan to marry and slept with a man you just met. and then you came to the clinic to verify if you were pregnant with your friends? you realize that your explanation doesn't make sense, right?" why is he so smart when it came to this?
"even if it doesn't, it has nothing to do with you. if you're worried about my qualifications as a teacher, i'll speak with ji-hyo's parents directly. as a third party, i'd appreciate it if you could stay out of it." i stated.
"why are so hard to deny it?" he asked.
"because it really isn't you." i said.
i looked at him who is in a deep thought now. maybe thinking if everything i said make sense or not. but i really hope he let me slide this time.
"it's a bit hard for me to understand. all circumstances point to me being the father." he said while resting her head on his hand.
"chaeyoung-sshi, it seems this is all so sudden that you need some time to think. well, it's the same for me." he added.

"pardon?" what is he trying to say?
"why don't we meet again tomorrow to talk?" tomorrow? i have school to attend!
"wait, now see here!" i tried to talk to him again. in hope everything will just end here.
"i believe your friends are waiting for you outside, so i won't offer to take you home." he stand while buttoning his suit, looking out of the cafe.
friends?
i turned around to see what he sees.
what? have they been there the entire time? in the car? for the entire time?
"i wasn't expecting today's meeting, so i'll need to head out as well. i hope you get home safely and will see you tomorrow." he added before he leaves the cafe while looking at his phone.
"what? wait! wait a minute! see me tomorrow? wait?" is he deaf or something? i've been calling him multiple times but he just walk away just like that?
what does he want?

"we'll take you home. come out." i said as soon as chaeyoung picked up the call.
taehyung and i were waiting for all this time but guess what she said she will go back home on her own. besides, there's somewhere she wants to go first.
"really? are sure you'll be alright? okay then." with that i ended the call.
"what did she say?" asked taehyung.
"she said she's going to see her mom and then head home." i said.
"why is she going there all of a sudden?"
"i don't know. maybe she wanted to see her mom." i just continue looked at my phone. really? she just want to see her mom? so what? let her be.
"are you kidding? you know what kind of relationship chae has with her mother. i'll go and get her, so she doesn't go alone." he said, looking worried.
please don't start, taehyung.

but i just can't. it's been a hell for me ever since we dated but taehyung will always try to find a way for chaeyoung.
i'm not jealous because i know they are childhood best friends.
it's just, i need the attention too.
"tae, whose boyfriend are you?" i asked out of the blue. i shouldn't asked that, i know. but i still want to know his answer.
"what?"
"chae isn't a kid, you know."
"who said she was? as a friend, i'm just-" friend huh? then how about me?
"do you realize it's been a week since we last saw each other?" i asked.
"you know i'm busy with the startup.." he excuses himself.
"and you weren't busy today? it's been hard to get a response from you these past couple of days because you were so busy. but as soon as i told you about chae, you came running. didn't you?" i know i might regret this later after saying all this things. but i really want this relationship worked for me and taehyung.
he just looked away.
"jen, why are you acting like this? this isn't like you." he stated.
"what's like me? my boyfriend and best friend have a seemingly questionable relationship. how could i pretend not to notice. it was obvious you were so focused on chae today that you didn't notice me at all." i snapped back.
"you're overreacting. before you and i started dating, the three of us were friends first. questionable relationship? no way. chae has no one to take care of her. and on a day like today, of course i'd be worried about her. that's all it is. so stop saying things like that." he explained.
and here we go again with him trying to change the topic and play victim. i will always be the one who feel guilty.

i rang one of the unit in this condo building to see my mother after such a long time.
after a few seconds, the door creak open and here my mom who i've been missing so much.
but only me, i guess.
"why do you look so tired?" she asked as soon as she opens the door.
yeah, no how are you for me. again.
"thanks, mom. you look great, too." i replied back, sarcastically.
"look at the way you talk to your mother." she snapped.
"i must take after you."
i walked to the living room and wait for her preparing some drink in the kitchen.
should i tell her the news?
"so, it's not holiday. what brings you here during the week? did you have something you wanted to say?" she asked.
"no."
should i really tell her? what if i get a bad response?
"well, then."
the time is moving.
i didn't come here expecting to be comforted but i thought she'd at least ask me how i was doing. i should've known better.
after a few minutes of silence, i decided to ask her. maybe i should ask her about another topic? let's see.
"mom, have you heard any news about dad lately?"
she looked at me blankly.
"mom, do you still resent dad? i'm told my youngest sibling is a third year in middle school. she'll be going through puberty. that's rou-" i continued, searching for a nice topic to begin with.
"why are you talking about her like she's family?" she asked, unsatisfied.
"then what am i supposed to call her?"
"don't talk about that woman's daughters and yourself like you're equals, or even family. i don't like it."
huh? she doesn't like it?
if someone heard this conversation, they might mistakenly think i grew up receiving a lot of love when she never showed me any affection.

The Mischievous Mrs. Maxfield
***The wrong girl is sometimes The Right One.*** Charlotte Samuels thought she'd be stuck waiting tables at Marlow's until all her debts are paid off-in about ten thousand years or so. She definitely didn't expect a marriage proposal from the arrogant Brandon Maxfield who was blackmailed by his father to make her his wife if he didn't want his least favorite cousin to run Maxfield Industries. Charlotte's instinct was to say HELL NO! but she's stumped by a few obstacles: 1.) His old man Martin Maxfield is dear to her heart and has been recently deteriorating in health. 2.) She gets a million dollars if she stays married to Brandon for a year. 3.) She would rather like the opportunity to teach the attractive but awfully rude man a few lessons he didn't think he needed from a 'teenage gold-digger' which was his term of endearment for her on their first date-er, business meeting. So what's a girl got to do, right? Sure, she's young and a little rough around the edges but there's something her would-be husband didn't know about her yet-she's nothing like he ever expected. Thrust into the glitzy world a standard-issue Mrs. Maxfield would fit perfectly and rule with impeccable social grace, Charlotte will either have to force herself into the mold or break free of it, risking what little she has left for everything that she can gain.*** Copyright © 2014 by Nina Tippett.
