《Whatever It Takes | Rosekook ✓》33: crazy

"Yuju, it's not a problem. I can take care of you," Mark said. He was holding her up as they entered her apartment.
"Mark, your place burned down. You have bigger things to worry about than me. Like, where are you going to stay?"
"Well, I need to get with Rosie on that. I was thinking I could stay here for a few days. If that's okay with you."
"You want to live with me?" Yuju asked.
"Yeah, I mean...if it's not a problem. I was hoping I could take care of you as a way to earn my keep."
"Mark, you're a really good friend. You know that, right?"
"You're a good friend too, Yuju. I was thinking that maybe we could be mo-"
"The thing is, I don't need you to help me. I'll be fine on my own. Besides, you really need to get your apartment situation settled," Yuju sat down and closed her eyes as pain vibrated through her body. She wondered if Tylenol would help.
Having someone break in to scare them was supposed to have been a good idea. She would've gone viral. Nothing went according to plan. The idiot she hired set the place on fire and almost killed her. She couldn't admit it any of that or she'd probably get some charges pressed against her too. Yuju couldn't understand how Tzuyu became so popular on YouTube so quickly.
As much as she liked Mark, she wasn't sure she wanted him to live with her.
"Have you talked to Rosie?" She asked.
"Rosie?" Mark repeated. "Yeah, she's fine. You're the one who was hurt."
Yuju sighed. "Mark, it wasn't just your apartment that was ruined. It was also Rosie's."
"I know that," Mark said defensively.
"You told me yesterday she got hit in the head with a baseball."
Yuju wondered if Roseanne had it recorded. It would make excellent click-bait. She fumed that nothing interesting ever happened to her.
"So?"
"You said she was hospitalized."
"Yeah, but she said she was fine."
"Have you really not checked on her? You've been with me since yesterday so I doubt it. Mark, Rosie's your best friend. I bet she's all alone right now and totally freaking out."

"Do you want me to bring her here?"
"No, I want you to find your friend and see how she's doing."
"What about you?"
"I'll be fine, Mark. I was stabbed, not killed. Besides, Rosie's probably all alone right now."
"No, she's fine."
"You talked to her?"
Mark nodded. "She's doing better than fine. You're worried about her but Rosie always bounces back on her feet. You and I had to sleep in that germ-infested hospital. Guess where she slept last night?"
"I don't know, Retropolis?" Yuju answered, naming their place of work. It had a nice couch in the break room.
"Nope."
"Where?"
"At Jeon Jungkook's house."
Yuju's mouth fell slightly open. "Wh-where?"
"I didn't tell you but Jungkook was there last night. Apparently, before you and I arrived he had been eating pizza with Rosie at the apartment. Jeong Jaehyun and Cha Eunwoo were there too."
"The Trinity was eating pizza at your apartment?" Yuju balked.
"Yeah. After the ambulance took you away, Jungkook came back. For Rosie."
"For Rosie?"
"Are you okay? You're starting to get pale. Did you want some water or something?"
"No, I want to know why Rosie is hanging out with Jungkook and the rest of the Trinity. Do you know how popular they are? How did Rosie get in their group?"
"I don't know. Probably because of everything that happened with Tzuyu."
"This is bad, Mark. Really bad."
"What's bad? Yuju, you're starting to freak me out. Do we need to go back to the hospital?"
"No, don't see what's happening?"
He shook his head in confusion.
"We have to do something, Mark."
"Do what? What's going on?"
"It's just like the book-end thing. You told me Rosie found Tzuyu's murder weapon. I promised to keep it a secret as long as you called the cops."
"You said it was for her own good," Mark said. "You said if the police started investigating Tzuyu's death as murder, Rosie would stop making her videos. She didn't. She still involving herself, Yuju."
"I know and it's not safe for her. We have to protect her from herself. You care about Rosie, don't you?"

"Of course I do."
"Then we need to figure out a way to get her away from the Trinity. Especially Jungkook."
"Why?"
"Don't you see? It's only a matter of time before she joins their group."
"How is that a bad thing?" Mark asked. "She'll get more followers if she's their friend."
"They're turning Rosie into the next Tzuyu. If we don't put a stop to it, they're going to kill her too."

Roseanne Park must die.
Roseanne Park must die.
Roseanne Park must die.
The words were scrawled onto the piece of paper. A picture of Roseanne laid beside it, her face scratched out with a red pen. An open laptop revealed RoséRade had gained another five-hundred thousand subscribers.
"You keep getting followers but you don't deserve them. I'll make sure you get what's coming to you."

"Dr. Kang was found this morning by his wife," Detective Bae Joohyun tossed a file on her partner's desk. "Word around is he committed suicide."
"No way. Has the medical examiner already examined him? I mean...I know he must've been through some stuff with the internal investigation going on but I never thought h would do that."
"No official word yet. There was something unusual though."
"What?"
"Text messages from an unsigned number on his phone. Right now, it looks like it belonged to a burner phone."
"Do you think it was his dealer?" Seokjin asked. "We all know he failed his drug test. Secrets don't stay hidden around here."
Joohyun shrugged. "It might've been. The messages were deleted from his phone. No prints were on his phone if someone else got rid of them."
"How did they find out about the burner phone?"
"Telephone records. His wife was adamant that we check them. I think she thought he was having an affair. I'm telling you, Seokjin, this case for Chou Tzuyu gets more twisted by the minute."
"What? Do you think his murder had something to do with Chou Tzuyu? Why? Because he originally said her death was an accident?"
Joohyun nodded. "Yes, but more specifically, I think it had something to do with Roseanne Park."
"Joohyun, there's no way Roseanne Park had anything to do with Dr. Kang's death. That poor girl has been through so much she doesn't need us accusing her of murder. If that burner phone meant anything, it was probably someone blackmailing Dr. Kang."
"Okay, let's say you're right. How do we know that person blackmailing him wasn't Roseanne Park?"
"Why would she need to blackmail him? What could she possibly have on him that he would risk his career?"
Joohyun shrugged. "You know she lives in a bad neighborhood. For all we know, she's also a secret drug dealer."
"That's a stretch and you know it," her partner scolded. "If Roseanne really was a dealer, she'd be living in a nicer place. Stop looking for something that's not there. We need to focus on the people in Tzuyu's life. Have you interviewed her boyfriend?"
"Yes. He had an alibi that night. He was my prime suspect since we found out he and Tzuyu had been fighting. I'm not still not sure how Roseanne ended up with Tzuyu's necklace."
"Didn't she say someone sent it to her in the mail?"
"Again, it's odd. Why would anyone send her Chou Tzuyu's necklace? What if Roseanne is lying?"
"Lying that someone sent her the necklace?" Seokjin asked.
"Yeah. Maybe she took it from Tzuyu that night. Or maybe she mailed it to herself and made that huge story about someone sending it to her," Joohyun suggested. "What if she was so needy for attention that she orchestrated the whole thing?"
Seokjin shook his head in disappointment. "You need to leave her alone. What you need to do is focus on the task at hand and stop harping on her."
Joohyun looked at him for a few moments before sighing. "Fine. You're right."
Seokjin smiled and patted her shoulder. "Well, I'm glad you've finally realized," he started walking towards the exit. "For a second, I thought you were going a little crazy trying to take down Roseanne Park when she didn't even do anything wrong."
"I'm the crazy one? Says the one who believes in ghosts," Joohyun scoffed.
"I heard that!"

A note from the Author: PLEASE leave a review and alert me of any plot holes, weak portions, and anything else. I am in desperate need of beta readers and feedback. I wrote this around the new year, 2020. It's about 40k words and the first in a planned series that follows Gar "Alany" Darron and his agency of detectives as they track missing persons in the city of Throne. I have the sequel planned but not written. Once this one is completely uploaded, I'll be uploading another, unrelated series that as of right now is roughly 160k words long, and somewhere in there, I'll write the sequel to Frame of Mind. I plan to go back and forth between the two series for the foreseeable future. Thanks for reading.
