《Dear Happy // Fantastic Beasts》Eight

A week had gone by. Mercy never left the house and the flowers stopped coming. She thought if she didn't approach him that night, maybe he would still want to see her. But, why did he ever want to see her in the first place?
'How are you doing?' Alice asked sitting on the end of the couch
Mercy just huffed shoving her face back into the pillow 'this is why I left'
'What?'
'When I left Newt at the docks, four years ago... remember?'
'Oh, yes. Faintly' Alice chuckled
'I left because this is how felt pretty much everyday and now it's happening again, and I finally was moving on and- and everything was okay'
'You haven't seen this boy in years and now, all this time later you still feel the same way?'
'Does this mean I love him?' Mercy mumbled
'Sounds like it to me'
'Why is everything so complicated?'
'Because life isn't fair, if it was you two would be together right now' she said 'and your mother and sister would still be with us, right here. At home.'
Mercy sobbed into the black pillow, Alice placed a warm comforting hand on Mercy's back. Mercy flopped onto the floor causing Alice to jump up, she chuckled as Mercy hit the cold ground.
'Why don't we go for a walk?'
'Last time I did that, it didn't turn out so well' Mercy huffed
'C'mon, spend some 101 time with your Gran! Just you and me and the great outdoors'
'We've been spending 101 time with each other since you got here'
'C'mon, you don't even have to get dressed! Wear your pyjamas for all I care' Alice said nudging Mercy's side
'I'm not getting up'
'Well, you don't have too'
Mercy sat up as Alice grabbing her wrist tightly,
'What?'
The ground disappeared in blaze of black and Mercy thought she was falling through the floor. Soon enough she felt the freezing cold ground beneath her, she blinked many times adjusting to the bright sun light.
'Where are we?' Mercy asked standing up feeling hard, cold rocks underneath her bare feet 'what did you do?'
'We are in an alleyway behind that cafe you always used to talk about'
'I'm in my pyjamas!' Mercy grunted 'and I'm not wearing any shoes!'
Alice disappeared with a loud crack, before reappearing a few seconds later, this time holding a pair of flats and one of Mercy's old over sized sweaters. Alice threw them at Mercy, she caught them before slipping the shoes under her feet and pulling the warm sweater above her head. She looked like a idiot. She was wearing a large bright yellow sweatshirt with blue plaid pyjama pants, topped off with black pointed flats. She also had on her biggest pair of glasses she owned, the pair she only wore at home because they made her look like she taped two magnified glasses over her eyes.

Alice grabbed Mercy by her wrist as soon as she pulled her sweater over her head. Mercy stumbled following her, people focused in their direction as they emerged onto the busy streets of London. Mercy pulled her hand away, following Alice threw the crowded side walks.
'Where are we going?' Mercy called out
'London Eye'
Mercy stopped.
'We're here anyways, calm down'
Sure enough Mercy was standing in front of the giant Ferris wheel, one of Londons tourist attractions. Alice dragged Mercy along through the long line, getting close enough to the front of the line she hid away in a dark corner and grabbed Mercy's hand once more. When Mercy opened her eyes from a quick blink they were sitting beside each other in a glass box.
'This is illegal' Mercy moved to the other side to even out the cart
'How so?'
'We didn't pay to get on, it's like we're stealing and stealing is illegal' she pointed out finally looking out at the view.
Her heart dropped as she noticed they were moving father and father away from the ground, she held onto the railing.
'You don't like heights?' Alice asked
Mercy violently shook her head 'no... I feel as if I've mentioned it to you before, though'
Alice shrugged her shoulders focusing out the window, she smiled bobbing her head.
'Can we go now?'
'We can't go, besides, we're coming back around'
Mercy felt the cart slow down as it slowly made its way to a full stop. The door swung open and an employee smiled waving them out of the cart, Alice smiled back while Mercy rushed from the cart and into the street. Alice lead the way again while Mercy had no idea where she was going. A little while later Alice stopped while crossing the road, Mercy ran into her falling onto the street. Cars honked towards them, she could hear people yelling while some people stuck their head out their windows to see if she was okay. Alice pulled Mercy up and dragged her to the other side of the street, she yanked her into the nearest store.
'Why in the name of Merlin, did you stop in the middle of a busy street?' Mercy huffed
'Nothing, it doesn't concern you'
Mercy rolled her eyes 'can we go home now?'
'Not yet' Alice smiled grabbing her arm as the ground spun and left her feet, she knew what her grandmother was doing.
Diagon Alley wasn't as busy as it had been the last time Mercy was out and about. Children ran around the relatively empty streets as flustered parents ran after them.

'Why'd you take us here?' Mercy asked
'When I was your age, this was my favourite place'
'Oh' Mercy mumbled trailing behind Alice
They walked until they passed the Three Broomsticks, Alice took a steep turn into the small restaurant. They sat at a booth, the building was almost empty expect for an elderly couple who were sat across the room, both reading the newest edition of the Daily Prophet.
Alice ordered two mugs of butterbeer, something Mercy hadn't had in years. It was nice to be back in a place she'd almost forget she loved, the only reason she'd come back to Diagon Alley was for book shopping. Nobody could top the superb book selection that occurred in Diagon Alley. A waiter came up and placed the two drinks in front of them, Alice smiled before taking a long sip. Mercy lifted the glass to her lips and the familiar taste made her smile. Alice placed the mug back in front of her, taking a deep breath she focused on Mercy. Mercy laughed looking at her grandmother, a foam moustache sat above her upper lip.
'Why are you laughing at me? That's rude you know' Alice shushed her
'You have a foam moustache from your drink'
Alice frowned wiping her mouth on her sleeve, Mercy cringed.
'I hate when people do that'
A bell echoed through the restaurant, another customer had entered.
'Speaking of hate' Alice mumbled staring at the table
'What?'
Mercy looked over at the door as Newt's tall figure blocked the doorway, Mercy grunted staring at him.
'Do you think he'll finally talk to me?' Mercy mumbled not breaking her gaze
Newt wiped his feet on the doormat before looking around the small space, his eyes traveled but stopped when they landed on Mercy. He frowned, staring down at the floor he turned around and left causing the bell to go off once more. Mercy frowned, 'I've had enough'
Mercy stood up and rushed out the door, the cold air felt refreshing against her burning skin. She spotted his navy blue coat disappear around a corner, Mercy ran after him.
'Newt!' She called out turning the corner, his case was open behind a crease in the wall. He was trying to get in.
Mercy closed her eyes, the ground spun underneath her and when she opened her eyes she was face to face with Newt. This time he wasn't getting away so easily.
'Why are you running from me?' She yelled 'why won't you talk to me!'
Newt looked down at her 'it's not important' he mumbled
'How?' Mercy huffed 'you send me roses and notes after four years of us not speaking? And then you suddenly stop and when I see you, you run away'
'I can't explain it'
'Why, why can't you? I thought you wanted to see me again?'
'It's not that easy' he whispered
'Please explain then!'
'I can't'
He wouldn't look Mercy in the eyes.
'Is everything you told my grandmother true? Was all the notes you sent a waste, was that picture you gave me for my locket an idea you regret?'
'I need to go' he said rushing down the street
'Your not leaving! I'm not done talking to you' Mercy shouted. He stopped, slowly turning around with a frown on his face.
'See how it hurts, when someone just leaves you when you weren't done talking. When you weren't finished being in each others lives, when you wanted so badly to give them reasons to stay and they... they just leave?'
Mercy looked up at his face, his eyes were glossy with tears.
'Newt...' she whispered
He took a step backwards gripping his case tightly at his side, he looked down at his feet.
'Not yet, it's not the right time'
He took off down the street, disappearing around another corner. Mercy frowned turning around, she ran back to the Three Broomsticks fighting back tears. Alice was sitting in the same place, she smiled as she saw Mercy walk up to their table.
'I knew you'd come back' she smiled
Mercy looked up at her, she could feel the tears coming. She was sick of crying.
'What happened?' Alice asked worriedly
'I'm such an idiot' Mercy mumbled 'I've ruined everything'
'Honey, what are you talking about?'
'I can't do anything right' she whispered covering her face with her hands 'I've lost him'
'Lost who?'
'Newt'
'So you talked to him? Is that why you ran out of here, to go after him?'
Mercy nodded, 'he left just like I left him. Broken.'

Thomas the Brawler
Thomas doesn't remember what his last name was, before it became Bluebrim, a name belonging to another universe. He's also pretty sure he wasn't this stupid before he arrived, but what can you do, when a day that was supposed to begin with an interview to set your life back on track instead begins in a universe that makes no sense, with rules you can't begin to understand? Maybe he should have paid more attention to the avatar creation screen ... Content warnings: All of them. Seriously. Expect lots of blue screens to begin with. Don't expect a power-leveling fantasy, in which the lone hero beats up all the bad guys, and gets a harem of women. There's just a guy who treats character creation like an annoying series of pop-up advertisements, and the story is basically the ramifications of that. The main character has to learn to take the world he's found himself in seriously, and he'll learn the way most of us do, by doing it wrong first. This is, insofar as it is successful, a dark comedy fantasy. Also a bit of horror, particularly but not exclusively body horror. I'm pretty sure I've earned those Content Warning tags, so, uh, yeah. This is practice. Hopefully things improve as I go, and figure out what I'm doing wrong, but I make no guarantees things will ever get better. I've already made mistakes, I'll make more, and I'm happy to notice them each time I make them. You don't improve unless you fail. (On the plus side, it probably won't get much worse.) Feel free to point out anything you think I'm doing wrong; I don't promise to change anything, particularly if it's a matter of taste, but I am looking to improve, and figuring out what I need to improve goes faster if I don't have to try to figure it out myself. I've updated the earlier chapters for formatting, in the hope that it would make everything easier to read on mobile devices. Hopefully things work slightly better now, but please let me know if there are any issues anywhere.
