《If I Fall // Fantastic Beasts》Fourteen

A full moon looked over the deserted streets of New York, the only light glistened through the windows of local shops. Jacob trailed behind Mercy and Newt as they were fast walkers 'will you slow down?' Jacob said as Newt stopped peering through a shop window, Mercy ran into him muttering an apology before questioning her best friend.
'Why did you stop?' She asked
'I thought I saw movement' he mumbled continuing to walk as Jacob finally caught up with the two, panting he muttered many curse words. Mercy walked along the sidewalk just behind Newt, peering through the many windows Newt payed no attention too. A light flickered in a jewelry shop as a brown blob scurried into the black shadows of the store, Mercy stopped while grabbing the back of Newts coat and pulling him back.
'What are you doing?' Newt yelped stumbling onto Mercy
'I think he's in there' she said pressing her face up against the cool glass to get a better look
'Who?' Jacob asked following Mercy
'The Niffler!' Mercy shouted seeing the the tiny creature chew on a sparkling diamond necklace 'who did you think?'
The Niffler hopped up onto a jewelry stand while placing multiple items of jewelry around its neck as it examined another necklace. Newt glared into the glass at his creature as its tiny head turned finally taking notice of Newt. The Niffler froze also staring at Newt as if he was invisible, after a few seconds of a staring contest the creature jumped off the stand while stuffing more items into his pouch. Newt nudged Mercy back while taking out his wand and pointing at the glass, without a word the glass shattered causing Mercy to jump back farther beside Jacob. Newt hopped into the store and began chasing the Niffler as Jacob looked panicked as he looked down the abandoned streets as if someone would be watching. Newt chased the creature around the store, giving up hope with Newt, Mercy climbed into the store as well. Newt called her name and pointed to the opposite wall, Mercy followed his instructions before stopping at a line of glass cases all different sizes. The Niffler hopped up on the cases across the room, Newt followed the creatures footsteps as Mercy suddenly understood what to do. Climbing up onto the glass cases she jumped across them hoping to cut the beast off, Newt reached his hand out and just missed the Niffler as the glass cases all toppled towards 'Newt, look out!' Mercy called landing on the last case of her own but was to late as Newt fell over through the other window, smashing the glass as the Niffler flew out of reach. Mercy's reached out her hand as well almost touching the creatures fur, she dived from the window grabbing the creatures foot as she yelled for Newt to watch out as she crashed into him on the side walk loosing her grip on the Niffler as she made contact with the cold ground and Newt.

Newt jumped up beside Mercy who laid on the cement, grasping her forehead she groaned. Newt hovered above her with a worried look 'are you okay?'
Mercy nodded at once attempting to stand up 'I'm f-fine' she muttered now clutching Newts arm for balance
'Your foreheads bleeding! It looks bad' he said feeling the wound 'there's no glass so I'm not- did your head on the pavement?' He asked helping her up as Mercy shrugged
Jacob appeared with the Niffler struggling in his hand, he handed him to Newt as they walked onto another side walk. Sirens echoed in the distance as Mercy took notice of the alarms that had been going off in the shop, two police cars pulled up as policemen stepped from their cars with guns glued to their hands.
'They went that way, sir' Jacob said pointing to his right as the policemen glared at the three pointing at a trail of diamonds and jewelry cluttered the road leading up to them. Mercy filled with panic as a growl was heard from up the street, everyone stared in the direction of the sound as a lion approached the scene. The policemen devoted their attention to the animal leaving enough time for Newt, Mercy and Jacob to dissaperate.
The ground was soft beneath Mercy's boots, looking around she realized they were at Central Park. Newt spun around making sure everyone was here, he sent a faint smile towards Mercy before grabbing her hand and pulling her along. Mercy motioned for Jacob to follow, listening to her he slowly trailed behind. As they approached a bridge which had been demolished, a few animals trotted off into the night. Newt gave a worried look as a loud growl was heard, Newt stopped placing his suitcase on the ground and unclipped the two locks.

'What are you doing?' Jacob asked stopping as well
'You need to wear this' Newt grunted pulling out a helmet and a chest plate
Jacob placed the helmet on his head as he tightened it he gave Newt a confused look,
'Why doesn't she have to wear anything?' He asked as Newt tightened the chest plate
'Because her skull won't break under immense forces' Newt chuckled locking up his suitcase before they walked under the broken bridge.
'Don't worry' Newt added as Jacob looked anxious
'Does anybody listen to you when you tell them not to worry?' Jacob asked
'His philosophy is worrying means yo-' Mercy began
' you suffer twice' Newt finished smiling at Mercy 'and it's our philosophy, we came up with it together'
Mercy chuckled as another loud growl was heard
'Do you think it is an escaped animal from the zoo?' Jacob asked worriedly
Mercy stopped in her tracks as a large beast approached the three, Jacob's jaw dropped open as Newt opened his case and pulled out a small green bottle. Spreading some on his wrist he began dancing around the beast, his case lay open on the ground as Mercy realized what he was doing. The dancing became more and more funny to Mercy as she couldn't suppress her laughter, she began laughing, laughing the loudest she had ever had before. That adding another thing onto the list of reasons why Mercy loved Newt, how he could make her laugh and all his stupid jokes.

Scorched - The Winter Winds (LitRPG)
Frank Ebner once wanted to save the world. Let the second one be better than the first. On Earth he was a student of... well it hardly matters anymore. It was dying, and he and the rest of his fellows and friends studying how to stave off the end graduated just in time to be told it was too late. That there was not enough time, funds, will, to stop it anymore. That the governments and the worthies of the world had moved from trying to stop it, to surviving the oncoming apocalypse, while blaming each other. That was a world Frank wanted nothing to do with. One riven by wars for places in the Archologies going up, and between them and the dying world they were leaving behind. So when a strange voice offered him a way out, to a world unmarred by the poison killing his? Frank took it. The voyage changed him, made him fit his new world, one of stats and magic. It came with perks, for in passing through their Heavens, they'd been exposed to Divinity, and taken some of the Celestial within them. Heroes now, but there are heroes, and there are Heroes. The nobility of the Empire care only for those who carry blessed bloodlines, and their time to adapt and train up for the new world is limited. Patrons are scarce among those like Frank, with only the base Hero perks, and magic studies expensive and lengthy. Often requiring heavy Oaths to gain the necessary aid to wield mana as a mage. Frank found another way. It nearly cost him his life. Now on the run and burned by the very magic he sought and craved, he is a pilgrim traveling to the The Eternal Tree, font of Perseverance. Frank hopes Ir-karlak will grant him some way to recover from the fires that scorched him. Without snuffing out the embers those fires lit within, for he has learned to harness them and he would not give up magic for the world. *** In the last 21 days, as I update this, I've managed about 18-19 updates. So Scorched should update most days, muse willing. She's fickle, sometimes. Not every day, but most. If there's an update for the day, it will be at 7PM, GMT+2. *[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Actually completed it. :) *
