《I Want You》Prologue

Do you believe in love at first sight?
I do.
Well maybe not love but definitely a connection or an over powering attraction that could lead to love. I've experienced it once in my life, it hit me so hard it forced every bit of air from my lungs. Okay, maybe that was the fact that I had just slipped in a puddle and fallen flat on my back, but I blame Jax Nam's presence for making it harder to catch my breath afterward.
I was a freshman in college and had only been on campus for a week. Normally I'm a decently coordinated person, you have to be when you're a cheerleader or you become a hazard to the rest of the team. It had stormed all week, not the best way to start out your college experience but I didn't mind the rain, and the staff at my residence hall had been good with keeping the floors dry until that day.
I was reading a text from my brother Jude, not paying attention like I should have been as I entered the doors to my residence hall. It was only a meme, I don't know why I had to look at it right then but I did so I didn't see the puddle waiting just a few feet inside the doors. One second I was standing on two feet looking at a Harry Potter meme, the next I was staring up at the ceiling with the air knocked from my lungs, my phone clutched tightly in my hand and the back of my head throbbing. I groaned, pinching my eyes closed tightly and just laid there for a second to mentally gather myself. If Jude were here he would be laughing his ass off right now, I thought with a huff.
"You okay?" A masculine voice asked from above me.
My eyes popped open and I met a pair of deep set light brown eyes peering down at me, dark strands of hair hanging just above his eyebrows. My heart stuttered as his lips slipped into a smile and all I could think is, wow, he's—
"So beautiful." I whispered.
His brow furrowed. "What?"
Oh shit I said that out loud!
"I think she rattled something loose when she smacked her head." Another male voice said and a second face appeared on my left.
His hooded eyes were an icy dark gray shade I hadn't seen before. His hair was so long it almost brushed his eyelashes, the strands were bleached a white blonde but his roots were jet black. He reached down and smacked my cheek, not super hard but harder than I expected.

"Hey!" I shouted as I raised up from the floor abruptly, head butting both of them.
I fell back down clutching my forehead and they both groaned in unison. The guy with the all black hair offered me his hand and a friendly smile. I took it and let him help me to my feet, unable to stop staring at him.
His hand was warm and soft in mine, it made me feel lightheaded and I honestly didn't want to let him go. I stumbled to the side as the room started to spin and he grabbed me by the shoulders to steady me.
"I think maybe you should go to the student health center and get checked." He suggested, his eyebrows dipped in concern. "Xan can take you, I have a class to get to or I would."
"Xan?" I questioned confused, still a little lost in how pretty he was.
His skin was so clear, his lips a natural pink color that was much too distracting not to stare at. Each time he smiled he revealed a small gap between his front teeth and it was the cutest thing I'd ever seen.
He glanced over at his friend with the bleached hair who had been shooting him a blatant glare at the suggestion, his dark gray eyes sharp.
"No, thats okay. I'm fine." I shook my head.
Xan groaned and grasped me by the bicep. "Damn it, Jax, next time we aren't stopping when a girl falls at your feet."
Excuse me? I thought in annoyance.
My brow furrowed. "I didn't—"
"Let's go, I've got shit to do." Xan cut me off and urged me froward.
"Don't let his attitude fool you, he's a decent guy. Hope you don't need stitches." Jax said before I was dragged away.
I caught one last look at him before we turned the corner and I held in a sigh. How can one guy be that attractive? Xan's strides were so much larger than mine that I stumbled trying to keep up.
"Slow down!" I demanded and wretched my arm from his grasp so I didn't have to walk at his pace anymore.
He shot me a glare but slowed down to a normal walk for him and a fast paced walk for me.
"So your friend, his name is Jax?" I asked, beyond curious about him. "He seemed really nice."
Xan huffed and rolled his eyes at my not so subtle attempt of wanting more information about his friend.

His lips twisted into a smirk. "Jax Nam, Freshman, a Cancer, nineteen years old, 6'1", Korean, Pre-Med. He has a girlfriend but I'll let him know you're interested once he gets bored with her."
My mind raced, trying it's best to save the overload of information he had just given me. The only part I didn't like is the girlfriend but that can always change so it's not too big of a let down.
"And you?" I asked to be polite.
"Xander Ko, Aquarius, also a freshman, Pre-Med and Korean. I'm eighteen, 6'2", I don't have a girlfriend and I am one hundred percent not interested." He replied with a hard edge to his voice.
I arched an eyebrow at him. "Do you always divulge so much information to someone you just met?"
Not that I'm really complaining about all the information on Jax, I'm not. We're both freshmen so hopefully I get to see more of him whenever he ever becomes single.
Xan pursed his lips. "Girls make it a habit of falling at Jax's feet, if I do the get to know me early on they can decide whether they wanna stick around and wait out his current girlfriend or move on with their lives without constantly bugging us."
I wouldn't call slipping in a puddle falling at Jax's feet.
"So is he a player or something?"
It sounded like this was a common occurrence, he must have a line of girls trailing behind him.
"More like a serial dater. We grew up together and I don't think I've ever seen him go more than a week or two without a girlfriend since we hit puberty." He flicked his tongue against the silver ring pierced through his bottom lip and then glanced over at me. "So what about you, what's your get to know me, twinkle toes?"
I glare at him for the very unwanted nickname but answer anyway, "My name is Lennon Rose Madison. Umm I'm also eighteen and a freshman. I'm from a small town in Tennessee. I'm a Gemini, an engineering major, and 5'5". I don't have a boyfriend and I'm also not interested." I bit the inside of my lip and then added, "Well... in you that is. Sorry." I muttered the apology.
He gave a snort and then stopped walking and pointed toward the building in front of us. "Student health center, Jax never said I had to walk you inside."
He flashed me a smile that was more of a smirk. It was crooked, one side of his lips tilted up further than the other but still cute. He gave me a two fingered salute and turned on his heel to go back the way we came. I sighed and entered the student health center although I thought I was fine. I didn't have any more dizzy spells on the way over so maybe it was Jax's fault.
The nurse checked me out and thankfully I didn't have a concussion and I didn't need stitches. Once I left the student health center I pulled my phone out and looked Jax up on Instagram. His profile was public and filled with pictures of his handsome face. His snap username was in his Insta bio so I pulled up snap and added him then I went back to insta and flicked through his posts.
When I got to my dorm room I flopped back on my bed and clutched my phone tightly to my chest with a smile on my lips, an image of Jax with his light brown eyes and cute smile stuck in my head. I had the most satisfying feeling thrumming through my body, like I'd met someone important today and I knew it wouldn't be the last time I saw him.
My roommate Tayen stood above me, staring at me similarly to Xan when I was on the floor in the lobby after I fell. Tayen's moody and frowns more than she smiles but I refused to let us be anything other than friends. She glared at me from time to time still but she gave up her 'I hate you' routine with me by day two of sharing our dorm room. My Mama always said I could turn a lemon to honey in a day.
"Are you okay?" Tayen asked.
"I met someone."
Her eyebrows raised. "You did?"
I nodded, a dreamy smile on my lips. "Yeah."
"So are you going on a date or something? Why do you have a creepy smile on your face?"
I shook my head but the expression on my face didn't budge as I thought of the smile he'd given me and the way his hand felt in mine when he helped me up. "No, he has a girlfriend."
Tayen frowned. "I'm so confused."
I sighed wistfully. "Me too."
Connection at first sight would do that to a person.
