《I'm An Idiot》4

Humming a tune underneath your breath, you tossed the chopped carrots into the pot that was boiling over the stove. You stirred the contents before bringing the ladle to your mouth, tasting the soup.
You smacked your lips and furrowed your brows, feeling like something was missing. Tapping the ladle against your cheek thoughtful, you frowned, still unable to figure out what the soup was missing.
Your eyes brightened as an idea sparked in your mind. You scooped some of the soup into a bowl and carefully carried it towards the living room where Jungkook was with everyone else.
It was late afternoon and you are currently preparing dinner. Jungkook's parents had gone out for a business dinner, sending their apologies for not being to join everyone else. You had waved off their apologies, saying that it was alright, promising them you will cook for them the next time around.
"Jungkook-ah, I need your help."
The said male sat up from where his head had been resting on Jimin's lap, turning his attention to you. When he saw you struggling with the hot bowl of soup, he got up from the sofa and rushed towards you.
"Yah! What are you doing?" Jungkook questioned, taking the bowl from you.
You gave your friend a sheepish look, blowing gently on your now warmed hands in hopes of cooling them. "The soup is missing something, but I wasn't sure what it's missing. So, I needed a second opinion."
Jungkook shook his head, chuckling, "You could have called me into the kitchen instead of going through all this trouble."
"I didn't want to inconvenience you." You mumbled, wringing your fingers shyly.
Your best friend's face softened, transferring the bowl onto one hand so he could pat you on the head with the other hand. "Look at you, ever so kind. What am I gonna do with you?"
You couldn't help but blush at the affectionate touch, but being awkward you, you tried to cover up your embarrassment. You slapped Jungkook's hand away from your head, rearranging your hair. "Stop it, you're gonna mess up my hair. Just drink the soup, it's turning cold."
Jungkook rolled his eyes, bringing the bowl up to his lips. You watched with bated breath, eager to see your best friend's reaction. Jungkook's tongue flicked out to lick his lips, frowning.
"So, what do you think?" You carefully asked.
"Hmm," Jungkook hummed thoughtfully before replying with a firm tone. "Yea, it's definitely missing something. It needs more salt."
Taking the bowl from Jungkook, you turned and made your way back to the kitchen. "I thought so too. Thanks for your help. You may go now."
Jungkook did the exact opposite. Instead, he followed you – plucking the bowl out of your hands and entered the kitchen. He placed the bowl in the sink and grabbed the other apron hanging on the hook, tying it around his waist.
You blinked at the unexpected action. Without even glancing back at you, Jungkook spoke up as he got to work. "What are you standing there for? The soup isn't gonna cook itself."
Shrugging, you entered the kitchen as well. You grabbed the salt out of Jungkook's hands and pushed him aside, taking your place at the stove. "I'll do the soup. Meanwhile, why don't you prepare the other dishes?"
Jungkook heeded your words, grabbed what he needed to make his dish and started cooking. Both of you manoeuvred around the kitchen like water and oil, familiar with each other ways of doing things. Besides the occasional asking of passing a utensil or ingredient, the two of you worked in comfortable silence, no words needed.

You had never felt more ease than being with Jungkook.
Everything was going well until Jungkook called for you. "(Name), look at this."
You glanced up from chopping vegetables and directed your attention to the brown-haired male. (E/C) eyes widened in surprise when you noticed what Jungkook was showing you.
In his hand was a plate full of sweet potatoes. The bizarre thing was, the plate was held upside down and yet the sweet potatoes stayed on the plate, as though someone glued the starched food to the plate.
Apparently, your best friend had added too much syrup to the point the sweet potatoes were glued stuck together, firmed on the plate.
Bubbles of laughter escaped your lips. You couldn't help but laughed at the predicament that Jungkook was in. Tears pricked in the corners of your eyes as you clutched your stomach, you managed to wheeze out. "I...I can't believe you manage to do that!"
Jungkook scratched his neck, two pink spots appearing on his cheeks. "I may have added too much syrup."
"You think?!" You managed to squeeze out before dissolving into more laughter, finding the whole situation so funny.
Being the goofy person that he was, Jungkook put on a "magic" show as he twirled the plate around, the sweet potatoes staying put on the rounded object. He even went as far as turning the plate into a steering wheel.
At this point, you were lying on the floor, tears escaping your eyes as you laughed at your friend's antics. "Jeon Jungkook, stop! I can't breathe!"
Jungkook placed the plate down on the counter, holding his hands up in a surrender position. "If you say so."
The laughter subsided as you lay there on the floor, your chest heaving as you tried to catch your breath. Your best friend puttered around the kitchen, finishing up the remaining dishes.
When he walked past you, he nudged your side with his toes, before making his way to the sink. "Oi, get your lazy butt off the ground. It's almost 7 and we still need to set the table."
"Get the others to do it since we prepared dinner." You lazily drawled, waving your hand in the air.
The sound of water could be heard as Jungkook washed up the dirty cooking utensils. "Then go ask them to do it instead of lying on the floor being useless."
You glared at your best friend before letting out a tired sigh. Climbing to your feet, you dragged your feet towards the entrance of the kitchen. You cupped your hands around your mouth, shouting. "Dinner's almost ready! In the meantime, can some of you set up the table please?"
"Alright!" came a chorus of agreement from the living room.
Turning around, you decided to check if the soup was done. You drank the soup from the ladle, letting out a satisfied hum at the taste of it. It was perfect. Together, both you and Jungkook walked in and out of the kitchen with the dishes that both of you had prepared, placing them on the dining table.
"(Name)! Hurry up, everyone's waiting for you!" Seokjin shouted from the dining table.
"I'm coming! Can't you be patient for a few more seconds?" You shouted back, removing your apron and hung it back to its original position on the hook.
You quickly washed your hands, drying them on your shorts and scurried out of the kitchen. Everyone laughed as you glared at Seokjin, mumbling about how impatient he is which the male replied with "You can't blame me for loving food."

Once you took your seat next to Jungkook, everyone began to dig in. There was a look of disgust as you stared at the way how Jungkook ate. The boy was practically inhaling his food, not caring if bits of pieces of food flew everywhere.
Placing down your chopsticks, you whacked him on the back of his head. "Yah! You're not a kid anymore. Can you please eat like a civilised human?"
Jungkook's head leaned forward, his chopsticks hitting the back of his throat. He immediately dropped his chopsticks and hit his chest, coughing. Tears pricked in the corners of his eyes, as everyone laughed at him.
"(Name)! What the hell?! I could've died!" Jungkook scowled at you.
You picked up your chopsticks and resumed eating, calmly replying. "But you didn't. So, stop being such a baby and eat your food."
You pointed your chopsticks at Jungkook's bowl of rice, brows raised. The brown-haired male frowned before picking up his bowl and chopsticks, shoving mouthful after mouthful of rice into his mouth, fuming silently.
"(Name) has our Kookie wrap around her fingers." Yoongi shook his head, placing a chicken wing in Hoseok's bowl who beamed at his hyung.
"You're even more whipped than Jin-hyung!" Both Jimin and Taehyung exclaiming, giggling like teenage girls behind their hands as the maknae glared at them.
"Yah! I'm not whipped!" Seokjin protested, only to prove the 95 liner's words correct when Eun-ha whined about her chicken having bones. "Aigoo, here let me help you remove the bones, Eun-ha."
Namjoon simply shook his head at his elder's behaviour.
While Seokjin was busying removing the bones from his fiancée, Eun-ha clapped her hands to get everyone's attention. "Guys, I've some announcement to make."
All heads turned in her direction, ears ready to hear what she had to say. Once the black-haired female had everyone's attention, she began. "As y'all know, Jin and I had yet to choose the groomsmen and bridesmaids."
The group nodded their heads while you glanced around in confusion since this was your first time hearing about it.
Eun-ha went on. "Since this is a small-scale wedding where our guests are comprising of close families and friends, we've decided to make all of you as the groomsmen besides Jungkook who will be the best man since he's Jin's brother."
"What about on your own side, noona?" Hoseok curiously asked.
"I was just getting to that. Some of my close friends will be the bridesmaids. As for the bride of honour, I've decided it'll be (Name)-ssi since I don't have any female relatives who I'm close too. Besides, Jungkook is the best man. So, it's only common sense that (Name)'s the bridesmaid of honour." Eun-ha beamed and faced you, smiling, "What do you think, (Name)?"
It's a horrible idea! You mentally screeched in horror, but you couldn't say that out loud in fear of hurting Eun-ha's feelings, so you fake a smile, replying, "It's an honour, unnie."
Eun-ha squealed loudly, clapping her hands in delight. She launched into a full-on conversation about how she couldn't wait to go shopping for dresses for you and her girlfriends.
You paid only half attention to what the excited soon-to-bride was saying, nodding or humming occasionally. Your mind was pre-occupied at the fact that you were to walk down the aisle with Jeon Jungkook, your best friend.
This might as well be your wedding!
Jungkook noticed the dazed look on your face, his brows furrowing in concern. He whispered so that only both of you could hear, he asked. "Are you okay?"
"Huh?" You snapped out when you heard Jungkook's question before facing him and with a reassuring smile, you replied. "Yea, I'm fine. Don't worry about me."
Jungkook frowned, not believing your words, but he let you be and didn't press you furthermore which you were thankful for. You weren't ready to share about the conflicted feelings with him.
For the rest of the dinner, you kept quiet as you finished up your dinner.
***
Ji-Eun munched on her chips, watching you paced back and forth on her laptop screen – waiting patiently for you to collect your thoughts. "Are you going to say anything or am I supposed to just watch you pace around?"
You stopped in your tracks and let out a heavy sigh, running a hand down your face. Picking up your laptop from the study table, you brought it over to the sofa and sat down, placing your laptop on your lap.
"So, what seems to be the problem that you need to video call me?" Ji-Eun asked. "Did you finally confess your love to Jungkook and thus making you his official girlfriend instead of pretending?"
You gave your friend a deadpan look. "Last time I check, my feelings are still a secret and I'm still Jungkook's fake girlfriend."
Ji-Eun rolled her eyes, answering. "Geez, tone down on the sarcasm girl. It's just a joke."
She grinned when she heard you chuckling, knowing that you were in a much better mood as compared to before. Her eyes softened as she returned to the matter at hands, her tone serious. "On a serious note, did something happen between you and Jungkook?"
Your smile faded when you remembered why you faced time Ji-Eun in the first place. After dinner, you made an excuse and said you were turning in for the night since it had been a long day.
Everyone took your bait and bid you goodnight which you returned before heading up the stairs to yours and Jungkook's shared room. All except one. The entire time you could feel a familiar pair of eyes burning holes in your back.
You ignored the stare, only relaxing once you were in your room. Letting out a sigh of relief that you didn't know you had been holding in, you fished out your handphone from your pocket and dialled Ji-Eun's number.
Hence, this led to where both of you now – you stressing over being Eun-ha's bridesmaid of honour while Ji-Eun just wanted to watch her drama without being disturbed.
"I haven't got all day; my drama is waiting for me." Ji-Eun gave you an annoyed look. "So, either you spill what you're dying to say or I'm just gonna leave you."
(E/C) orbs widened at your friend's words and not wanting her to leave, you spill out what's on your mind since dinner. "I'm walking down the wedding aisle with Jungkook!"
It was as though time stopped. Ji-Eun's hand paused in front of her mouth which was wide opened, ready to eat the chip when you spoke. Her eyes stared at you through the screen unblinkingly.
You had never seen someone so frozen before that for a moment you thought your friend had paused her screen.
"Erm...Ji-Eun, are you okay?" You asked, worried for her.
The brown-haired girl snapped out of it, shaking her head left and right so hard that you were afraid it was going to pop right off her neck. She put away her chips for later and focused her 100% attention on you, taking this much more seriously as compared to before.
"Yea, I'm fine." Ji-Eun waved off your worries. "I was taken by surprise by what you said."
You breathed out, giving her a small smile, saying, "Yea tell me about it. I was so surprised when Eun-ha unnie announced out of nowhere that I'm going to be her bridesmaid of honour!"
"Wait, you mean you aren't getting married to Jungkook?" Ji-Eun asked, her brows furrowed in confusion.
Your eyebrows rose so high that it disappeared into the hairline. "No? Since when I did I say I'm getting married to Jungkook? Have you forgotten this Jungkook's brother wedding that I'm attending? Furthermore, I'm in a pretend relationship with Jungkook so why on earth will I be married to him?"
"It's just that you told me that you're walking down the aisle with Jungkook, so I assumed both of you are getting married." Ji-Eun quietly replied, her eyes looking anywhere but at you.
Your jaw literally dropped wide open upon hearing your friend's words. You couldn't believe what your friend had just said! Ji-Eun laughed nervously, her cheeks pinking in embarrassment at the thought of how ridiculous she must have sounded like.
You mentally facepalmed, a tired look on your face. "It's so dumb that I don't even have the hard to correct you."
Ji-Eun immediately jumped in to defend herself, protesting. "Well, it isn't my fault that you didn't phrase your words in such a way that I understood it properly!"
"Ji-Eun come on! How dumb can you be?" You argued back. "Firstly, you already knew that this relationship isn't real so the chance of Jungkook proposing to me is near impossible. Secondly, I'm only 22! I'm too young to get married!"
Your friend opened her mouth to retaliate, only to shut it when she realised that you had a point. An awkward silence filled the room at the misunderstanding. However, you lost it when your eyes met Ji-Eun's eyes, both of you bursting into laughter at the ridiculousness of the situation.
"HAHAHAHA! I can't believe you actually thought I'll be getting married!" You laughed, clutching your stomach.
"Can you imagine it? You are walking down the aisle while I sit by the sideline, trying not to cry at the fact you're about to be married off?" Ji-eun chocked, nearly falling off her bed.
Another round of laughter went off. By the time you had calm down, you were basically reduced to tears – your stomach hurting.
You wiped away your tears as you gave your female friend a grateful look. "Thanks, Ji-Eun, I really needed that."
Ji-Eun returned your smile, her eyes softening. "You know I'll always be here if you need me too. Besides, you're going to be fine. Keep telling yourself that you're doing this for Eun-ha – nothing more, nothing less. Alright?"
"I'll keep that in mind." You nodded your head. "Honestly when I agreed to become Jungkook's girlfriend, I thought it was just that. Full stop. Period. But who knew that I'll be walking down the aisle with my best friend?"
"Maybe you can use this as a practice for when you actually walk down the wedding aisle with Jungkook." Ji-Eun joked, a mischievous grin on her face.
"Park Ji-Eun!" You squealed, throwing a pillow at your laptop screen while her laughter filled the room.
Time skipped brought to you by the God of Destruction
You were sitting on the bed, snuggly tucked in with a book in your hands when the door to the bedroom opened. Glancing up from the book, you noticed it was Jungkook who had entered.
You bookmarked the book before placing it on the bedside table. You pulled back the blanket and got up from the bed, approaching your best friend. "Hey there, what doing up here so early?"
The brown-haired male gave you a smile, ruffling your hair. "Early? You call 10 pm early? How deep are you into the book that you lost track of time?"
"Well, it isn't my fault. I can't help it that the book was so interesting that I completely lost all sense of time." You pouted, crossing your arms.
"Alright, alright. No need to get all angry with me." Jungkook chuckled.
You grinned at your best friend, sticking out your tongue childishly which caused Jungkook to roll his eyes.
"I'm going to take a shower," Jungkook told you, picking out a set of pyjamas.
Nodding your head as a sign of acknowledgement that you heard him, you returned to bed – sliding underneath the blanket and resumed reading. A smile appeared on your face when you heard the familiar sound of humming coming from the bathroom.
Soon, you found yourself humming along.
Ten minutes had passed when you heard the shower being turned off, indicating that Jungkook was done showering. Glancing up from your book to look at your best friend, you asked, "So, what are our plans for..."
Only to trail off when you noticed the state that the brown-haired male was in. Jungkook was only dressed in his pyjamas pants which meant the top-half of his body was naked, revealing all its muscles glory to you.
A towel hung around his neck, his hair still dripping with water. (E/C) orbs couldn't help but followed when a water droplet dripped from the end of his brown locks and landed on his toned body, trailing down until it disappeared into his pyjama pants.
Did you mention that his pyjamas pants were hanging dangerously low on his hips?
For a moment, you forgot to breathe as your eyes were fixated on the handsome beast also known as your best friend. Now, you knew why girls at your university always go crazy over Jungkook because my god, he's the epitome of perfection.
