《ʟᴏᴠᴇ ᴡᴀᴠᴇs》Pancakes and a peck

Chika rested her chin on the white marble kitchen counter as she waited for Kanan to come back with some bandaids for her small wounds, she just wanted to pretend it didn't happen and eat breakfast, but Kanan was not having that.
She cleaned up the wounds and blood with pwater and sat her friend down on one of the chairs lined up against the counter, stating she'd go look for some bandaids and would be back as soon as she found them.
And as promised, she came back not long after with a small box of bandaids. And of course they couldn't be just regular bandaids, they were Hello Kitty bandaids. Who wants boring, plain, beige bandaids when you can have pink, purple and red bandaids with small flowers and cute drawings on them?
"So", Kanan said, sitting down next to Chika, "That happened. Well, whatever that was. What exactly happened? How and why did you hurt yourself like that."
"To be completely honest, I'm not entirely sure myself. I woke up to go to the bathroom and then I saw.. you know who, standing beside your bedroom door. She said some things that I don't want to repeat, and all of the sudden, she grabbed me by the arm. You showed up, and then poof, she was gone. And my arm was bleeding.." and she stopped talking, her lip was quivering.
Kanan put her hand on Chika's back, as if to reassure her and convey that she didn't have to continue talking if it was too much for her, but nonetheless, she went on.
"Whenever I had hallucinations like this, I would never really end up with a bruise when I 'woke up'. But now.. I don't know, it's probably a side effect of the medicine, maybe it makes some things look more real."
Although that didn't seem very likely, since the whole point in the medications was to stop these visions, neither Kanan nor Chika discussed this topic any further and decided to leave it at that. Chika put on the bandaids and Kanan headed to get started on the pancakes they planned to have for breakfast.

Chika set down the tableware and simply watched Kanan as she got everything ready. In other circumstances they probably would've been making jokes and fooling around, but it seemed as if both of the females were too busy with their thoughts.
The sky outside was still pretty dark and the sun had yet to rise, but again, it was never too early, or late, to eat any type of food.
Chika internally debated on wether she should call her mom to catch her up on the current situation, but she decided against it. It would just end up worrying her more and they were probably normal side effects. Or that's what she told herself.
And yes, although the main reason she didn't tell her mom was to not worry her, the second reason was a bit more for herself. She would look at her family and all she saw in their eyes was sadness and pity, maybe even some curiosity? Regardless of what emotions were stored in those eyes, it was tiring seem them every day.
Basically, until breakfast was done, she had nothing to do. So, as anyone with common sense would do, she decided to annoy You who still hadn't woken up.
Chika went into the room to find You lying in bed in a fetus position, covered up almost completely. If only she was this cute and quiet all the time, she wouldn't be as much of a bother
But annoying her by waking her up was a chance she could not miss for the world.
The red eyed girl threw herself on top of the other, bouncing and shaking her, screaming in her ear things like 'rise and shine!'. This got several groans from the girl under the sheets.
You would demand her to get off, but seen as it was useless, she turned her over so she was on top of Chika, eyes squinted and slightly red from the waking up.
"I swear if you don't let me sleep I'm going to defenestrate you!"

Chika chuckled and kicked her off, faking an 'oops' when the sleepy girl let out a small squeal. It was fun bothering her friends.
"What hour even is it?", she continued, checking her phone and shutting her eyes slightly from the sudden bright light. "It's 5:30 AM! Why the hell would you wake me up this early?! I want your head on a stick."
"Sorry princess, but me and Kanan woke up early and are gonna eat breakfast now. If you wanna get the chance to eat anything at all for breakfast, you need to wake up now."
You let out yet another exaggerated groans and stood up reluctantly, eyes widening when she noticed the 4 bandaids plastered on the other's arm.
"What happened to you?" She questioned, grabbing her wrist and pulling her a tad closer to take a better look.
Though it wasn't a few seconds after that Chika pulled away her arm abruptly, responding with her typical 'it's nothing' phrase. Without anything left to say, they walked into the kitchen, where Kanan was serving two pancakes with syrup on each one of their plates.
"I see you're up!"
"Yeah, a certain someone thought it was a good idea to start harassing me at this early hours to wake me up."
"Well, if it weren't for that someone, there would probably be no food left on the table for you."
"I told you" Chika said, sitting down to eat.
And with that, breakfast went on smoothly. There were a few jokes exchanged here and there with a friendly chitchat, and of course, the food was great. Kanan was that one mom friend who was able to take care of you like one, and that even included the nagging.
Once everyone finished eating up and the dishes were cleaned, the three friends sat on the couch and decided to have a Disney movie marathon. You're never too old for Disney movies.
But when Kanan got up to go the bathroom, You did something Chika did not expect. She grabbed her by the hand and pulled her over so they were only a few inches apart, making Chika widening her eyes like plates.
"What are you..?"
"I need to talk to you."
"I don't think any type of conversation requires this small amount of space in between the people having it, and I wanna continue watching-"
"I'm serious, don't treat this like it's some joke."
And she was serious. Chika could tell by looking at her eyes, those eyes blue like the sky. There was a glint of fear in them, actually. Added to all those other emotions that made up the sky inside those eyes was also nervousness. Most of the time, it was easy to read You. But not always.
"I know that you don't feel about me the way I do about you, and that we agreed on leaving that behind, but I've been thinking.. and I won't let you off the hook so easily."
"You're.. you're serious." She said, as if she had just realized this.
"I'm sorry if I ever ruin whatever friendship we have, but I'm not gonna keep my feelings hidden for any longer."
And she put an end to the argument by giving her a small peck, which made Chika blush bright red.
When Kanan came back she looked back and forth between Chika and You. Chika was sitting on the edge of the couch with her knees covering her face and You was on the other end, wearing a mischievous grin on her face.
"I'm not even gonna ask", and the movie marathon continued.

Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
