《Pen Pals {MXTX}》25- Mission S.A.P (Part 1)

The cellphone rang.
Wei Wuxian picked up the phone. He has been waiting for this call.
"Do you spot them? Are they together?" the boy asked.
"Yeah... I see them. I want to punch his face," a male voice came from the phone.
"Now, now, let's not be hasty," there was a glint in Wei Wuxian's eyes. "Let Mission S.A.P begin."
"Wait! Hold up. Mission S.A.P? Wei Wuxian, what the heck are you talking about?" the voice said, irritated.
"Mission S.A.P! You know, Slay the Arrogant Peacock. We ought to have a name for this! This will make us sound more professional," Wei Wuxian explained, squinting under the sun.
Wei Wuxian was standing under a tree outside of the Cang Qiong Shopping Mall. The tree was small and hardly provided any shade from the glaring rays.
"Wei Wuxian!" the caller had shouted angrily.
"I'm here, I'm here! What's up, Jiang Cheng?" Wei Wuxian called out as if answering for attendance.
"Wei Wuxian, do you think this is a joke? A-Jie agreed on a date with Jin Zixuan!"
"Yeah, I know, I know, that's why we are doing this aren't we? Rest assured, I, Wei Wuxian, may not know what I'm doing half of the time, but anything with A-Jie, I, Wei Wuxian, will not mess up!" the boy declared.
Then he adds, "Although, you want Mission S.A.P to be Slay the Arrogant Peacock or Stupid Arrogant Peacock?"
There was silence on the other end. Jiang Wanyin is most likely regretting his life decisions. Then a half-exasperated half-annoyed sigh came through the phone.
"Whatever, where are you right now? Meet me in front of Aunt Luo's coffee shop. The one we usually go to."
"Okay, Jiang Cheng!" Wei Wuxian chirped. "Be there in a moment."

.
.
Jiang Wanyin furrowed his eyebrows as he watched from the second floor of the Cang Qiong Shopping Mall, the two figures that were chatting near a fake palm tree.
If he leaned a little bit closer to the railing, he could almost make out the shapes of their mouths.
Of course, Jiang Wanyin couldn't hear them from where he stood, a floor above. The boy leaned closer, squinting his eyes-
"Yo- Jiang Cheng!"
Jiang Wanyin almost toppled over the balcony which would have resulted in a broken leg or his funeral. If the latter happens Jiang Wanyin would surely haunt his killer as a vengeful ghost for eternity.
"Jiang Cheng? What are you doing?" Wei Wuxian asked cheerfully.
"..." Jiang Wanyin turned around. Then he grabbed the collar of Wei Wuxian's black shirt and screamed at their joyous face, "ARE YOU BLIND? CAN'T YOU SEE THAT I'M WATCHING A-JIE AND JIN ZIXUAN RIGHT NOW?!!"
At least that's what he wanted to do. Jiang Wanyin likes to think he has the clearer head among the two of them, and because he had a clearer head, he knew that yelling would cause them attention and hence be found out by his older sister and Jin Zixuan which will then result in a disappointed A-Jie and possible no soup for a week which will be a terrible misfortune.
It might also result in a miserable Jin Zixuan not that Jiang Wanyin would care.
So in summary: he didn't scream. Although he would have liked to. But he didn't.
"That's A-Jie and Jin Zixuan over there," Jiang Wanyin said, pointing at the two figures that were chatting animatedly with each other.
"Ugh, who does he think he is!" Wei Wuxian grits as he watches the couple, his hands gripping the railing. "A-Jie is so beautiful and nice and sweet and he's a...a..."

"A cow," Jiang Wanyin nodded, also watching the scene below in dislike.
Wei Wuxian unexpectedly gives out a giggle. "A cow? I was gonna say he's a person unworthy of A-Jie."
Jiang Wanyin almost smiled.
"I'd say both are true," he said.
"Yeah! Anyway, back to the mission, Jiang Cheng. So because we are nice and obedient little brothers, we will not interrupt our A-Jie's date," Wei Wuxian said firmly.
Jiang Wanyin nodded. The two boys then glanced sideways at each other. "Of course, that only means..."
"If Jin Zixuan doesn't do anything unfair to A-Jie. If he makes a single mistake, we swoop in and teach him a lesson," Wei Wuxian finished.
"I'm quite good at taekwondo, you know," Wei Wuxian also added. He smiled to himself evilly.
Jiang Wanyin: "..."
"Oh wait!" Wei Wuxian suddenly remembered something. "We ought to have code names for ourselves and them too! Here, I'll be Red, you're Purple, Jin Zixuan is Peacock, of course, and A-Jie can be... Soup. Wait no- A-Jie is Angel. A-Jie is Angel," Wei Wuxian said hurriedly, seeing Jiang Wanyin's murderous glance.
Jiang Wanyin considered this and slowly nodded. Wei Wuxian turned around, letting out a sigh of relief. He had narrowly escaped a tragic fate.
"Soo, what are they doing anyway? They have been standing under that fake palm tree for a while now. Are they counting the lines on that tree or what?" Wei Wuxian asked, going back to spying- er, watching Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan.
Jiang Wanyin looked down too. Then they both duck.
Jiang Yanli had glanced up. There was a feeling that she was being watched. Jiang Yanli's gaze landed in front of the coffee shop on the floor above.
Wei Wuxian and Jiang Wanyin were now sitting with their backs against the opaque glass and their knees tucked in. Wei Wuxian's mind was going- omygosh omygosh omygoshhhhh.
The two boys didn't even dare to breathe. Bypassers gave them weird glances as they walked past.
After a minute or two, Wei Wuxian slowly got up and peek above the railing.
Jiang Yanli had resumed talking with Jin Zixuan.
Wei Wuxian: "Phew! Oh man, that was close. Wasn't it, Purple?"
Jiang Wanyin: "..."
Wei Wuxian slid back down to the floor. He took out a piece of paper from his jeans.
"Okay, according to my research, Jin Zixuan plans to spend the whole day with A-Jie. He plans to first bring her to Aunt Luo's coffee- " Wei Wuxian's voice trailed off as realization hits him.
Jiang Wanyin's eyes widened. He looks like he couldn't decide to murder Wei Wuxian first or go hide because Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan are approaching at the very moment.
Wei Wuxian jumped up. The area with the fake palm tree was now taken by an old man. Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan were not there.
Wei Wuxian scanned the mall in an almost frantic way. He spotted the two individuals on the escalator going up to the second floor.
More accurately, they are going to the second to Aunt Luo's coffee shop, the shop Wei Wuxian and Jiang Wanyin were currently standing in front of.
Wei Wuxian and Jiang Wanyin looked at each other. A split-second decision was made.
And no, it was not jumping off the balcony onto the first floor which would have resulted in a broken leg or their funeral. And if the latter happens they can only blame themselves for being two very rash hotheads.
Jiang Wanyin and Wei Wuxian both flee into the coffee shop.
