《I'm Stuck! [The Umbrella Academy : Five Hargreeves X Reader]》Chapter Seven

The trio returned later that afternoon, only to tell the news that apparently Leonard was nowhere to be found. He wasn't at his new home nor at his grandma's place.
"We've checked every property owned by Leonard Peabody and even Harold Jenkins, but no one's there. We did find this book though," Diego explained, putting the red book on the table in front of them.
It wasn't quite as easy for Vanya to control her powers than she would have hoped, the rest saying it might be because she still has some lingering effects on the pills with her. But even so, she had never felt so excited to finally be included for once, the past thirty years of her life almost always needing to be excluded on most activities, even when she was finally outside the academy.
She couldn't help but smile fondly at the nostalgia of seeing her siblings bantering, even with [Name] who may be new to them, felt like she's already a part of the family. As if she's a puzzle piece they've been missing all along.
"Hey old man," teased [Name] when Five stood up beside the couch she was sitting on, Klaus beside her trying to braid her hair.
"I'm not old," huffed Five in retort.
"Well then," she trailed off and then pretended to think. "Kiddo?" With a huge mischievous grin etching her face as she looked up at him.
"You're in a good mood today," he decided to comment, ignoring her teasing remarks.
"Yeah, there's some progress with Vanya's powers, even if it's still a little. While I'm the one trying to help Klaus control his power, I told him his power's pretty cool." She excitedly babbled.
"Oh! But the rest of your powers are cool too, I totally feel like Luther can probably do more things than just being the big strong guy, and like what if Diego can't just control knives but also guns and bullets? You know? Like do that slow motion thing Neo did."
"And then!" She was basically bouncing on her seat at this point, "Klaus can summon Ben and maybe finally get him to have a corporeal body. But not with possession, of course. And with you!! Ohhh your power is pretty cool." She said with a secretive smile, stopping still when Klaus scolded her.
"Why? What can my ability do?" Five asked, uncrossing his arms as he shifted his body to face her completely.
"I don't know if it's the right time yet for me to tell you any of this. But your father did give you some good advice," she answered.
"Yeah sure," he sarcastically replied.
They were surprised when Luther and Diego started to brawl, throwing punches at each other as Allison tried to stop them.
"Kids, I'm surrounded by kids." Five said, shaking his head in disappointment.
"They're even worse than my brothers, and those two are literal kids," [Name] remarked, suddenly lighting up as she remembered. "Hey, by the way, you promised you'd help bring me back home!"
"What? You're gonna go home?" Klaus remarked sadly, stopping his ministrations on her hair.

[Name] slowly turned to him with a sad smile, "I mean yeah, I still have a family, a mom and two brothers, alongside responsibilities."
"Do you really need to go home?"
"Well, not right now, at the very least. We still have some time together," she tried to reassure.
"Yeah," Klaus answered, but this time with a more subdued nature.

Night fall came as the family were all scattered around the mansion, [Name] wearing earphones and playing low music inside her room. She found an electric socket behind the bedside lamp, so she assumed the technological advancements in this universe might be around late 90s to early 2000s given that they do have those square computers in their libraries when she asked earlier.
"Do you have computers here?" She had asked.
"Yeah, those things with emails and you could send messages digitally," Klaus explained.
"How about phones then?"
"'Course, do you need to call somebody?"
"No, no, like these phones," she had asked and took out her phone from her bag, showing it to them.
"What's that?" Klaus asked, grabbing it and checking the back and front.
"This is a mobile phone, it's like a small computer but you can do more stuff." As she proceeds to explain it to him, even showing a casual game she downloaded to play when offline.
"Yeah! It is so cool!" Agreed Klaus, [Name] assuming that Ben might've commented something.
The next few moments were spent explaining how it works to the other siblings who have also gathered to see what was up, surprised how far technology has come in her universe.
"Do you have, you know, flying cars there?" Luther asked.
"No, not really? I mean, technically, airplanes are flying cars, no?" She quipped. "Though we do have electric cars, they're more eco-friendly and don't need gas. They also have an auto-drive function, so you don't need to always drive it manually."
"That is so cool," Klaus cooed. "So is everything metal there then? Like those movies where everything's silver?"
"I mean.." she drawled with a smile, "Yes and no. The buildings are of course made of metal, but it looks kinda different to those movies given that the buildings in my universe are more on glass than the metal, the metal being part of the foundation instead."
"What else do you have that's different?" Asked Five, who couldn't help but be curious, causing the girl to smile happily given that he's finally participating in something that's not about the apocalypse.
"Obviously, the computers are also much less bulkier, and you wouldn't really need to go to the library to look things up since you could look it up on the internet. Everything can basically be done on the internet. You can even have a sort of AI assistant that you can just talk to and they'd do your stuff for you. As long as it can be done remotely, of course."
They had plenty more questions after that, [Name] happily answering as the day slowly passed them by.
But then she jolted out of her thoughts when she heard loud gunshots, immediately removing her earphones as she wracked her brain to remember what exactly was happening.

She cursed as she looked around her room, trying to find a place to hide. She immediately bolted up once she remembered about the emergency stairs in Five's room. She prayed to every God that might be listening for the two agents to not find her as she gently opened the door.
[Name] looked left and right to make sure nobody's around as she tiptoed towards the end of the hallway, where she knew Five's room was located. She opened it slowly and immediately entered, closing the door behind her.
She exhaled in relief as she went to the direction of the window, seeing Delores on the bed and grabbing her so Cha-cha and Hazel wouldn't know Five's here. Well, unless Five already showed himself to them when the gunfire started.
She unconsciously put a finger on her mouth as she looked at Delores, then blinking and shaking her head as she climbed through the window and then closed it behind her.
[Name] then put Delores gently on the metal stairs as she tried to recall what else had happened.
Luther is gonna be seen there, except they already know he's half-ape at this point. Diego is fighting with his knives, Allison too..
[Name] gasped loudly as she remembered about Klaus! She stood up from her seat on the floor but then immediately dropped down as she saw the doorknob jiggling open.
She bit her lip in nervousness, keeping her back to the wall, begging that Hazel or Cha-cha wouldn't think to look at the window. She closed her eyes, fingers crossing when she heard footsteps enter the room. It was a few seconds of silence before the footsteps happened again, this time sounding more distant. She didn't realize she was holding her breath until she released it.
The gunshots and shouting went on for minutes, the girl wondering if the cops will come. She again gasped once she remembered about Eudora, and Klaus being kidnapped.
Once the guns seized, she slowly stood up from her place, looking at the room with the door left open and light filtering through the door way.
[Name] grabbed Delores and entered the room again, gently putting her on the bed as she fixed the pillow for her.
"There, don't bad mouth me to Five, okay?" [Name] whispered with a finger held up, causing her to chuckle at her shenanigans but immediately bolting up as she remembered Klaus again.
She ran to the corridor and ran straight to one bathroom, knocking on it and opening, finding no one, and then to the other bathroom near Klaus' room, knocking again and throwing it open. She slumped in defeat once she saw the bubble bath he was just at alongside a haphazardly thrown radio on the floor.
She heard the telltale signs of Five's teleport as she looked to her left, seeing him appear in front of her clearly disheveled with blood covering him, who then ran straight towards her.
"Are you okay?" He asked, panting.
"Yeah.. but.. Klaus," she said in resignation as she pointed at the bath. This seemed to have scared him as he gently pushed her away and looked inside the bath, exhaling a breath once he saw no one.
"What do you mean Klaus?"
"He's kidnapped," she answered grimly.
"Kidnapped?!"
**
"They can only go to those rundown hotels, management has been cutting down on fees the last time I was there," Five said, pacing the room.
"Can't you remember what place that was?" Diego asked the girl, holding her shoulders and almost shaking her.
"I.. no, I don't. Fuck, this would really be helpful if I remembered.." but then she trailed off as she realized something. "Eudora!"
"Eudora?" Asked Diego, surprised.
"Eudora knows where Klaus is! She's gonna find it, I just don't know if it's today or tomorrow, and then she.." trailing off as she averted Diego's gaze.
"What?! What did she do?!" Asked Diego in panic, really shaking the girl this time.
"Diego calm down, you're making her dizzy," said Vanya calmly, holding [Name] from behind to keep her steady.
"She--we just need to go find her because she's investigating this case and then she'd be fine, yeah," [Name] tried to reassure, not sure if it was Diego or herself.
"What happened to her?!" Diego angrily said, gritting his teeth as Luther tried to stop him from completely attacking the girl.
"She.. died," [Name] answered in a small voice.
"She what?!"
"She died," she again repeated. "But it's fine, she's gonna be okay because we're gonna be there."
"What do you mean 'we'?" Five asked with narrowed eyes.
"We, us, tayo, nous, me and the rest of you. Do I need to say it in one more language?"
"No, no, you're not coming with us. You're staying here with Vanya," He clarified, crossing his arms at her.
"What? But.." she tried to reason, immediately falling short as she realized she can't really fight two assassins.
"No, you're smart and you know you wouldn't have a chance against Hazel and Cha-cha," Five said sternly, arching a brow at her.
She bit her lip and then looked helplessly at Vanya, who only smiled in understanding.
"Okay.." she sighed, giving up.
"Good, come on," he said, teleporting away from them.
The girl flopped down on the sofa with a defeated expression, Vanya following and sitting beside her that prompted [Name] to give her a side hug, leaning her head on Vanya's shoulder. Vanya tensed at first, not knowing what to do, but slowly melted into the touch as she returned the embrace.

Author here! I honestly have no idea how technological progression goes on in the TUA universe, but given how frequent they use telephones and even with Five going to the library for information, I just assumed that their universe is kinda behind on that department compared to ours. Even the cars shown seemed like older models (tho don't quote me on that, my knowledge on cars only goes so far).
So I just estimated a guess and made it work. If it does get updated and somehow they're using phones, I'd just assume it was bcos of the shift in timelines that they did and has shown at the end of S2.
