《A Little Good Influence | Max Thunderman x Reader》Chapter 43

You were going to leave at the break of dawn, so you could reach where you were going by noon. You didn't twice before leaving all your school books behind as well as your phone before grabbing a bag that was stuffed with your clothes, some toiletries and some bags of chips. The most valuable thing in your bag however, was the few packets of seeds that you got from the market.

Your bottles of water chastised you and you huffed, "It's just until I get used to the taste of fish and fruit and things."

Biting your lip in nervousness, you asked, "Are you sure it's going to work? I'm not much of a gardener."

It was reassuring to have a force of nature on your side, you nodded, letting a carefree smile slip onto your face. It was invigorating, the thought that tomorrow you'll be in a new place, under the sun, close to the water and surrounded by nature.

Nodding, you grabbed your bag and slung it over your shoulders before sliding open your window as noiselessly as possible. You opened one of the bottles, allowing the water to slip out and gather onto your palms to protect them, holding its shape before you grasped the drain pipe and let yourself slide down before pushing the water back into the bottle.

The sun was barely peeking out from behind the buildings and it shone a soft golden glow onto your face, giving you a sweet preview of what treasures were to come. You felt excitement and anticipation bubble in your veins.

"Where to now?" You asked and a breeze pushed past you. To anyone else, it was the morning breeze but you could feel it, the water in the air, guiding you to where you were supposed to go.

When Phoebe came back home from the orphanage, she was an absolute mess. Tears were running down her face and she was struggling to control her sobs.

She had been at the orphanage to try and convince you to join the party they were throwing for Allison on her last day in Hiddenville. She wanted you to make nice with Max, because she knew what good friends the two of you were. After Max had told her what happened, she wanted to talk to you immediately but Max was so livid that she knew it wouldn't be a good idea to force the two of you to talk while you both were upset.

But she quickly came to realize what happened when it looked like a hurricane had blown through your room.

A few of your clothes were strewn on your bed, the prom dress that you had saved up for months and then spent the whole day shopping with her and Cherry to decide was carelessly thrown to the floor.

Your bags were missing, along with most of your clothes and your phone was left behind.

As soon as she realized what happened her heart sunk to her knees and she desperately went through your stuff to find something, anything, to prove that what she was thinking was wrong. But the heft of her dread stopped her from looking for long and she fell to her knees at your bed, trying to wrap her head around the whole situation.

The second she saw her brother sitting calmly on the couch, an arm slung around his girlfriend to celebrate her last day, along with their friends she just burst. She couldn't even stand to look at him and was so blinded by rage that her friends and parents around her just melted away.

"This is all your fault!" She screamed, throwing the only thing she could get her hands on quick enough, which oddly enough happened to be her shoe. She didn't wait a second before chucking her other shoe and watched as surprise and slight alarm spread on his face.

"Phoebe, what the heck!?"

Hearing their son, her parents came out of the kitchen to see Phoebe rush to him and smack his right across the face before slapping his chest, all while tears streamed down her face.

It took a second for everyone to regain their senses and she was being pulled away by her parents and her best friend.

"I'll never forgive you for this, Max!" She sobbed, trying to wrench free from her parents grasp to attack him again. Luckily, she had the sense to not use her powers.

"Phoebe, what is the matter with you?!"

She stopped struggling in her fathers hold to meet his eyes and she couldn't stop her sobs as her legs turned to jelly and she fell to the floor.

"It's (Y/N)....she-she," She tried stuttering through her words but she could only feel true despair in her heart. Cherry tried to comfort her by rubbing her shoulder but it was in vain.

"She ran away."

"You realize that I can't travel thousands of miles in the water, right?"

"Okayyy. I was just checking." You muttered, staring at the vast ocean in front of you.

3 bus rides and a lot of walking later, after six hours, you were at the docks, staring at the beautiful water that glistened with the noon sun shining brightly above it.

It wouldn't be too long before you had your freedom. Your heart leapt at the thought of it and you couldn't wait to jump into the water. You couldn't wait.

Your head snapped and you noticed a broken row boat thrown along with some other junk. It was sitting pathetically behind a bait shop, oars missing and as you came closer you came to realize it also had a gaping hole in the hull

"You realize that boats don't work if they have a hole in them, right?"

A blush lightly covered your cheeks, "Right, sorry."

You quickly made your way over to the shop, poking your head in and politely asking the man behind the counter if you could take the broken boat off his hands. He quickly told you that it was broken beyond repair and had no oars.

"Oh, that's not a problem, I just need the wood...for shop class."

Buying your lie, he said it was no big deal and you could take it, free of charge.

Grinning, you lugged it towards the edge of the platform and titled it off, watching it hit the water before sinking quickly. Your smile disappeared.

"Well, that didn't work."

Following its lead, you closed your eyes, feeling the water swirling and crashing underneath you and you felt your skin tingle with delight.

Your body swayed along with the water as your felt it surround the boat that hit the seabed.

Breathing deeply, you moved your hands feeling the water move and moved it away from the both just to push it underneath it and it came racing to the surface.

Beaming, you threw your bag into the now floating boat before jumping in there yourself.

"Yep!"

You watched the water ripple in a single direction, against the waves,

When Phoebe told them that you had run away, her parents didn't wait before rushing over to the orphanage and left the kids back at the house.

Cherry began crying quickly after she found out. She and Phoebe were sitting on the couch, head in their hands as they tried to get their hearts to calm down. Maybe it was just a mistake. Maybe Phoebe just misunderstood.

Max was pacing in the kitchen, feeling guilt build up in him. After the talk he had with you, he was just expecting a cold shoulder and the silent treatment. He never could have imagined that this would happened.

He felt so guilty, if he had just seen past his anger, he would have noticed you packing your bags that you didn't even attempt to hide. It was like a cry for help.

Phoebe was furious with him, and he wasn't surprised. He was the one that pushed her best friend over the edge and caused her to run away. Now his sister would never forgive him and one his best friends is missing.

When his parents returned, they weren't alone. A police officer was with them as they gave information as to what happened.

He rushed out into the living room and watched as his teary-eyed sister gave a shaky account of what happened and what she saw. It was only then weight of reality settled on his shoulders. You had actually packed up and left, with the intention of not to return. His mouth then got very dry and his hands were shaky.

He was so distraught that he didn't even notice Allison suddenly become very nervous.

"Does anyone know where she could have gone?" Asked the officer while he jotted down some things in his notepad.

Phoebe shook her head and then looked at Max, praying that he might have an answer and he felt helpless. Following her lead, everybody looked at Max for answers but he didn't have any.

"Son, how do you know (Y/N)?" Asked the policeman and he felt extremely nervous, his stomach coiled around itself and he felt like he needed to sit down.

"She's, um," Quite frankly, he wasn't sure what exactly to answer. Who exactly were you to him? It didn't seem right to call you his sisters' best friend because you were his too. You weren't just that. You were his ex-girlfriend but his first love. Sure, you both were fight right now, but that didn't change the fact that he loved you.

Suddenly he remembered you shouting how much you hated him back in your dorm and he felt his breath leave his lungs.

"She's, um, someone special."

The cop nodded with a knowing look and left saying that he'd contact them if anything were to happen.

"Okay, maybe you kids should head home, I don't think any of you are in much of a party mood." Said Hank. He was still sitting beside his wife who was still rubbing Phoebe's back.

His friends nodded and began gathering their things except for Cherry who remained by Phoebe's side, holding her hand and trying to control her own tears. Their best friend ran away. Their best friend wasn't happy with her life here. She was so unhappy that she didn't think twice before leaving. She didn't say goodbye.

As everyone was leaving, Max didn't even have the heart to say his goodbyes to Allison and instead was heading to his room.

"I'm so sorry! This is all my fault!"
