《A Little Good Influence | Max Thunderman x Reader》Chapter 46

"Here on my island, the sea says hello. Dolphins are waving where ever I go." You sang quietly as you strolled down the shores, feeling the sand between your toes.
Quickly, you made your way over to the end of the lagoon, wanting to feel the water from the ocean. Splashing the shallow ocean that licked your feet, you jumped into the water, immediately noticing how something was off. You couldn't tell what it was, but something was wrong. You could feel it.
Before you could stop it, the words slipped past your lips.
"A storm is coming."
It had barely been 2 weeks after Phoebe had moved back home after living with Cherry for a while and Max had quickly realized that Phoebe would never see him the same way again.
She had always been the one who had known that he was evil but still believed that he would do the right thing as opposed to his parents who just thought he was kidding himself.
But now she saw him for what he truly was. A Monster. A Villain.
And while he had always wanted that, for people to acknowledge that he was a villain, he couldn't bear the thought that it was because he lost you that people came to think this.
He always thought that being a villain was something to pride himself on, something to aspire to be, but now he realized that being a villain was the worst possible thing you could be. Because he did something horrible. Truly vile. He chased away the girl her loved.
He wished he had realized it before. That he loved you. He wished that the night you had crawled into his bed and confessed that you still liked him he had said it back.
But he didn't, he didn't show that he loved you, instead he said hateful words. He chased you away and you realized that you shouldn't have feelings for somebody like him. For a monster like him.
He grew to hate himself; he could barely look at himself in the mirror and it didn't help when his twin sister looked at him with so much disdain. He couldn't stand it anymore. The pain of not having you by his side, in his arms. The pain of knowing that the reason was him. He was the cause.

And when he thought about how much he might have hurt you, he hated himself more.
He tried to look for you, but he failed. He tried to talk to his sister, he failed that too.
Redemption was something that was moving farther and farther away. To a place he couldn't reach. That's why it was too easy for Dark Mayhem to pull him completely to the dark side. Because Max couldn't believe that there was ever a chance of him being good when he was a bad person.
So, he agreed to steal Phoebe's powers with the orb.
Because you'd never love a heartless monster like him.
A sense of dread made the sky seem duller and the sun seem colder. As the day moved on, you kept expecting something to come and it made you antsy.
You kept looking over your shoulder even though you knew that nothing was there. You felt like something was coming. Something bad. But you couldn't tell what.
Never in a thousand years would you have imagined that the bad feeling that you were getting was because the people back in Hiddenville were in danger. Because to you, they were the furthest thing from your mind.
However, as the afternoon sun beat down on you and you floated peacefully in the lagoon, the feeling of something creeping up on you made you unable to relax.
"What's wrong?" You finally asked, sitting up on the surface of the water, deciding that if you faced the problem, you'd feel better.
It sounded like a compliment but you felt dread, "What's going on?"
You scoffed, letting your back hit the cool water below you with a gentle splash, "So much worry for that? They have superheroes, did you forget?"
"What boy?"
This caught your notice, you didn't even know how to feel except surprised, but you knew that the spirit of water was never wrong about these feelings, "You're saying that Max is leading some sort of danger to Hiddenville?"
This sent a shiver crawling up to your spine and you suddenly felt scared.
"And you think I should go there, don't you?"
The weight of a decision was placed onto your shoulders, "I'm not ready."

Shaking lightly, you nodded, understanding your duty. The day of leaving the island paradise you were living in came sooner than you thought it would have. It was too soon. You weren't completely trained yet, and even if you were, you were never expecting that you'd go back at the event of a battle that could wipe out a whole town.
"What if I'm not ready?"
The thought was reassuring and you stood up, letting the water flow down your body as you made a silent prayer, "Please be with me."
Taking a deep breath, you walked farther away from the shore, keeping your body on the surface of the water, "Okay, let's see if Frozen has any logic behind it."
It took you a minute, as you thought about the water flowing beneath you and brought it to the surface. When you opened your eyes, a stallion about twice your size was bowing its head before you, with a mane made of waterfalls.
When it trotted, you only heard the sound of water beneath its feet and you released a breath.
"Let's go."
That was the only conformation it needed before it started galloping at the speed of the strongest current beneath you.
"Max please! I know you hate me, but you can't let Dark Mayhem destroy Hiddenville."
"I'm not going to destroy it. I'm going to enslave everyone in it!"
"Is that really what you want? To lose everybody you care about?" Phoebe asked desparately, begging her brother to change his mind. To get the hatred out of his head.
But he was doing everything out of pain.
"I already lost everybody that I cared about." Came his firm reply and she immediately knew who he was talking about.
"And is this what she would have wanted from you? Do you think she'd ever want to come back here to this?" At this point Phoebe was spewing stuff without really thinking about it in a desparate attempt to help him see sense. But when she finally started thinking, she felt the guilt creep up on her.
Her brother loved you just as much as she did and he was heartbroken when you left the first time, this time was so much worse because you left because of him and she knew that he missed you just like she did.
"I miss her too...." She said quietly and he flinched.
"I'm sorry, it was all my fault that she left. I'm so sorry." He whispered and tried to stop his throat from clogging up. The hand holding the orb with his family's powers began shaking.
"It wasn't just your fault." She said gently and it was the first time she believed it, "We're all responsible for what happened. And we're never going to forgive ourselves. But we can't tear ourselves apart."
"She loved us, Max." Phoebe said, and his body began shaking, "You know she did. And one day, if she comes back, we'll get to tell her, but we'll never get the chance if we let don't stop now."
"I'm sorry." He whispered distantly, and she wasn't sure who he was speaking to but she still replied, wrapping her brother in a hug which he returned, "I'm sorry, too."
In the corner of her eye, she saw Dark Mayhem move, she saw him pull his hand back and the glow of the plasma sphere shined in the reflection of his mask.
Her body moved before she could think and Max heard a gasp ripped out of her throat as her knees buckled. Before he knew it, Phoebe was slipping in his arms towards the floor.
"Phoebe!"
Her eyes were unfocused and she felt a searing pain on her back as she crumbled to the floor, shallow breaths leaving her.
He shot another plasma sphere and destroyed the orb containing his family's powers. Max looked helplessly between his twin and the destroyed orb at his feet, feeling tears in the corners of his eyes.
But even through all the chaos, all the worry, all the tears, he heard it.
He heard it and his heart swelled with hope.
He heard it.
A trickle.

Contact Through Voided Lenses
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Edit: Fixed some inaccuracies in the synopsis. The void is a vast unexplored ocean filled with various wonders and dangers all waiting to be explored by those brave enough to travel and record. Many souls do find themselves brave enough to face the vast distances, the various risks to personal safety and do the hundreds of task required on a craft. However, at times the void itself can be boring with absolutely nothing to do but as time pass and more and better technology is reached, things got better. The various trips got faster, communications became faster than light and you can be home to see your loved ones after only months now. Through the various planets whether rocky or gaseous, the various stars whether small or giant, the various systems both eerily similar or completely alien. As part of an expeditionary scientific exploratory survey craft, one could see that the void offers no reprieve from all the discoveries and wonders. At times, it can feel empty and silent where no soul can hear you scream and at others it can be overwhelming with sudden phenomenon that can overwhelm the brightest of minds. The void itself is a truly fascinating ocean where one must chart the various islands or drown in its deadly tidal waves. But the question still remained no matter how you try to hide it in of itself… is there truly other intelligent life out there? Are we alone in this ocean? Those very questions still haunt the minds of those on the crafts themselves as they brace for every jump ready for the unknown and the known. Many would try to explain that yes there is other intelligent life out there whilst other still say no after 2 centuries of continuous flight out of the home system. Still, those are questions that bury deep in the minds of the crew and those at home as the voidcraft jumps to a system with a single yellow star orbited by 8 other planets with one crowning blue jewel being the 3rd closest with its 5 oceans and 7 continents, a planet called Dirt which is inhabited by a primitive species called Humanity. Hello, author here and this is my newest dive into writing particularly for the Writathon currently in progress being my first one. I hope you give me story a try but in case you still want more information on what you’re getting into, below are some pointers about the story itself. First Contact: CTVL is a story about a first contact scenario between an advanced alien civilization and a slightly more advanced modern day humanity on their planet called Dirt. Characters: The story will take place mainly on the perspective of the alien visitors themselves though there will be human POV characters who will show how the rest of humanity react through media and forums. Action: It won’t be an actual alien invasion but you have to see for yourself how well first contact went. Sci-Fi: I will be very forward here, I WILL bend the rules of physics in order to add in parts of the plot and there WILL be parts that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Theme: It will be a brooding story talking about the futility of pe… Just kidding, it’s mostly wholesome stuff to be honest here. Alien: The aliens themselves will… actually why should I tell you, you have to go and read it to find out what the aliens are though I will draw a few things here and there to aid in the process. Extra tidbit: If you are a grammar nazi or someone who really wants a realistic scifi story... this story is probably not for you at all. Anyways, that’s pretty much all I can say before I spoil something major of the plot itself, the story is slice of life so make sure that type of story is what you like because I am terrible with anything else as I found out, anyways, have a good time everyone and good luck to the other Writathon participants.

Necro-Merchant
What up, it is zewen senpai here, with the first translated work I am attempting. It is a translation of a Chinese online novel named "陰商" (Ying Shang, or Dark Merchant). And looking at the context the story and the multi-meaning of the character "陰," I decided to name it the Necro-Merchant instead. Written by 咸魚君 (Xianyujun) or Mr.Salty Fish in English, the story is about a kid that started selling some eerie items with his cousin, because we be like that in China. Either way, enjoy the story and have a gud day.
