《Method Of Loci》Chapter 17 - The Fucking Mist [Overdue update inside]

The group ran back into the previous flat, heading straight towards the window. Eliot quickly slid the window up and the mist that was being held at bay by the glass, rushed into the room blurrying their vision. Eliot looked back and told everyone to go down the fire escape; Genesis was the first to go followed closely by Thomas who kept looking worriedly over his shoulder. Anubis didn’t have any way to climb down the ladder, so Eliot grabbed Anubis with the four levitating hands and hefted him up over the railing and slowly brought him down.
Eliot was the last remaining person in the room, he looked back one final time before descending down the ladder, joining the others in the deep mist. Once his feet touched the ground he looked up realising how impossible it was to see in the fog; he could barely see the end of his hands. The moisture from the mist clung to him, creating small droplets of water on his clothes and dampening his hair chilling him to the bone. He looked around for the others and saw vague shadows move throughout the vapour.
“Hey, over here; come to my voice.” Eliot whispered afraid of what else might lie in the mist other than him and his friends. The silhouettes converged showing the rest of the team, Thomas moved slowly with his spear staff at the ready; Genesis was right next to him with her weird gun aiming at anything that moved. Both of them were slowly being drenched from the water vapours of the mist. They nodded at each other when everyone was close enough to see the other person, which meant they were pretty much touching one another.
Eliot looked around for Anubis but the wolf halfbreed, was nowhere to be found, he tried whispering his name multiple times but either he wasn't there or he couldn't hear him. Eliot's heart instantly dropped with worry but he couldn't get distracted, they were in an unseeing mist with monsters walking about. If he loses concentration that could be the end of his short life. ‘Anu, you better be fucking alive.’
“Where do we go?” Genesis stuttered, the cold seemed to be getting the better of her. Thomas on the other hand looked perfectly comfortable in the low temperatures.
“We need to find shelter so we can wait out the mist, I remember passing some houses on our way here. Maybe some of them are empty.” Eliot proposed, he kept looking for signs of movement but so far everything seemed clear.
“What about the people upstairs, they have no means of protecting themselves from the thrall. Are we going to just leave them up there to die?” Thomas whispered looking at Eliot with a level stare.
Eliot didn't even consider that, he honestly didn't even think it was there concern, they barely survived their own little fight with the thrall, how the fuck were they going to save all those people by themselves.

Reward: The mist seer
“You have got to be kiddin me.” Eliot groaned, why couldn't Thomas just keep his mouth shut. The others had surprised faces when their satellites lit up giving them new missions.
“I think we should do it, the reward says we get a mist seer, probably something to allow us to see in this bloody fog.” Thomas reckoned seeming a bit pumped up.
“I think we should too, I still have friends up there.” Genesis added
“Are the both of you out of your minds, how in the fuck do you expect us to do that. We BARElY survived just now, we're not heroes we're survivors; so let's do what they do best and bloody survive!” Eliot objected, not understanding where they got the confidence to do such a crazy endeavor.
“.....Eliot what if it were your family up there, would you just leave them up there to die?” Thomas seethed as he took a step closer to Eliot; Thomas was a hefty man, not overly big but he had muscle to back him up.
Eliot bristled at the comparison, this was not his family; they were a bunch of strangers who could not have the bloody foresight to try and protect themselves. Why would he risk his life for them, why would anyone? Eliot took a step closer, now he and Thomas were eye to eye.
“These are strangers, who don't understand how to survive in this world. It’s there fault there in this position right now; not ours.” Eliot stressed. “So if you want to be a fucking hero go on then big man be one; but I have to find my dog and my family.”
Thomas looked at Eliot with disapproval in his eyes. “....I thought you were better than this Eliot.” Thomas said as he turned around to go back up the ladder. Genesis looked stuck, they just formed their group and it seemed it was already being disbanded. She followed Thomas up the latter giving Eliot one more look before disappearing into the window.
“You don't even know me.” Eliot whispered as he turned his back on them and walked deeper into the mist. At first he thought about how they were going to die for no reason at all and that they made the wrong choice but the farther he walked the more unsure he was of his decision, he was the one alone with extremely low visibility and he may have just left his only friends to die. ‘Damn it’
He had the buckler shield hand float around him in a loose circle in case a creature tried something, his vibroblade was clenched tightly in his right hand and he took slow deliberate steps into the direction he remembered seeing houses. He would whisper Anubis’s name or whistle every now and then in hopes of him turning up; but all he was met with was an unsettling silence. After a couple of minutes of wandering he noticed shadows moving in fog, he quickly got ready for battle. The hum of his blade had a soothing effect allowing his fast beating heart to slow down a bit, he tried circling the vague shadows; but they seemed to have spotted him.

One of them screamed an unnerving screech, spreading goose pimples all over Eliot’s arm. More forms started to appear, he was walking faster now moving as far away from the creatures as possible; before he knew it they were running at him at full force. He gulped hard as the first thrall made its appearance, his buckler shield bashed its head in without hesitation. He rushed up to to it and imbedded his blade in the fallen thralls skull, just as he was pulling the sword out more and more creatures appeared.
Thrall x1
20pts
Eliot swung his blade in a wild frenzy, cutting through bone and meat; he was getting increasingly nervous with every thrall he killed. He could barely see the creatures coming at him, he blocked and slashed them with his shield and sword while spraying plasma beams throughout the vicinity; at the same time he was preparing his ‘force push’ spell. He could feel the mental strain begin to take a toll on his mind from doing so much at once; his nose began to bleed from the sudden amount of stress.
Eliot screamed in sheer pain when he felt teeth sink into his leg, breaking his concentration on the spell. He looked down to see a thrall with missing legs chewing on his calf. He impaled the foul creature with his blade but the damage was already done. The time he looked back up, the thralls broke through his tiny defense, he accidently put his weight on his wounded leg making him flinch. ‘Fuck!’
The thrall that passed by his moving shield were met with plasma beams in there head, some of the beams went astray disappearing into the mist. With the few seconds he was awarded, he tried the spell again; he felt the sudden cold tendrils of magic go through his spine and up to his hands.
He quickly aimed his hand at the least amount of thrall and urged the magic to be released. Usually it's an invisible force that's released from the ‘force push’ spell, but with the fog surrounding Eliot; he could see the blast push back the mist creating a tunnel where he could see, it was only a couple feet long. He limped into the tunnel with each step eliciting a groan of pain, the hot flow of blood was somewhat comforting in the cold mist but he was beginning to lose too much blood, coupled with the headache he was feeling he felt that his odds were not looking good.
Eliot forced himself to do the spell again, knowing his magic reservoir was pretty much spent but he needed the upper hand if he were to survive. The metal shield cracked a thralls cranium as it got in Eliot's area of reach releasing brain matter from the fissure, he did not spare it a second glance as he wobbled his way through the mist. When the spell was activated he could feel the difference, instead of spine tingling cold it was a whisper of chill and nothing else. He would be surprised if he could push a bag of air with that amount of power.
He looked down and noticed only his fingers where showing the inner glow, proving to him again how small his magic supply really was. Another wave of pain came from Eliot sword arm, as a thrall snuck up on him and decided to take a bite. He screamed and grabbed the thralls head trying to pry it off, but it wouldn't budge. He let the power flow through his fingertips, force pushing the depraved creature, the head of the thrall snapped back tearing flesh with the snap of its neck.
“Oh bloody hell!” Eliot screamed as a chunk of his flesh was ripped off. He was on the verge of blacking out now, the pain was the only thing keeping him awake.
He made one the hands clamp down on his arm and put pressure on it to prevent too much blood loss. Eliot was close to the house’s he could tell, the thrall seemed to be distracted with something since he couldn't make out as many shadows anymore or he killed most of them, either one was fine with him. He could see the house now, it was made of brick and concrete, big and sturdy. He walked up to the door and tried the handle, it was locked.
He considered there being people inside and trying to find a different place to crash, but the pulsating pain coming from both his arm and leg made him think otherwise. He aimed his pistol to the door knob and burned a orange lined hole into it. The door was easily pushed in and Eliot limped inside collapsing his back against the door. He closed his eyes trying to make the headache and pain go away when he heard a female voice.
“...Please get out. Please.” The woman's voice begged. Eliot cracked his eyes opened to see a middle aged women pointing a small revolver at his head.
Eliot looked her in her eyes and saw fear and confusion, he could understand both but he wasn't about to pass up safety for her own peace of mind.
“Fuck, no.”

Son of Thunder
Right, I really suck at this synopsis crap. The story follows Taran as he grabs fate by the short hairs and makes his own destiny. Seizing a power that is not his by birth, he uses it to protect those he cares about. There will be magic, monsters and most likely some sex. (This is my first story here, give me some tips and pointers. My grammar may also not be up to snuff. As for a release schedule, nothing set in stone. Though I will try once ever week or two. Length of the chapters will vary. Mature 18+ Sex, violence, gore, strong language)(Holy shit, the old synopsis had some glaring errors.)
