Zach's POV

I got dressed and left the house to head to dinner with Whit.

"What time you think you'll be back?" Jack said, coming out of his room.

"I don't know. Couple hours." I shrugged.

"Alright well, Gabbie's staying over tonight after the show so uh...don't check in when you get back..." He said, his face turning red.

I laughed and nodded.

I was driving over when I saw a familiar figure in the parking lot of bowling alley by Whit's school campus. It looked like...Luke.

Yup, Whitney's Luke.

And....he was with someone??

A girl. And definitely not Whit.

I pulled over and waited in my car and I saw them enter the bowling alley. I got out and crept into the alley trying my best not to be seen by him.

He walked the girl in, his hand around her waist.

What type of bullshit...FUCK DID HE JUST KISS HER.

FUCK I JUST TRIPPED OVER THE TRASH CAN.

He looked my way but didn't see me and I quickly slipped out of the bowling alley and back into my car.

I called Jonah immediately.

"JONAH-JONAH-I JUST SAW-IT WAS LUKE WITH-WHO THE FUCK?"

"Zach look I don't know what you're talking about but I'm at a doctor's appointment so I gotta go. Sorry bro. Text me."

He hung up and I tried the other boys. Voicemails.

Tate, Gabbie, Christina, all voicemails.

"FUCK." I said, slamming my fists on the wheel. Someone had to know about this!

I drove as fast as I could to the diner I was meeting Whit at. I got out and saw her standing outside waiting for me.

"Where have you been? We were supposed to meet fifteen minutes ago!" She said, angrily, her arms across her chest.

"Whit I gotta tell you something." I grabbed her hand and pulled her into my car.

"Could you not have told me whatever the hell this is in the diner? I'm starving." She asked me, confused.

"Look." I took her hands in mine and made direct eye contact with me. "Now, it's really important that I tell you this and I'm doing this as your FRIEND. Ok?"

"Ok...Zach, you're scaring me." She said, still confused.

I took a deep breath. "Luke's cheating on you."

She laughed.

"What?"

"Zach, listen, I know you want us to be together and whatever but really? Making up stories. C'mon you're better than that." She said, still laughing.

"I'm not making this up Whit." I said, as seriously as I possibly could. Did she really think that I was lying?

"Ok. C'mon don't lie to me Zach." She got serious again and pulled her hands away from mine.

"I'm not." I told her.

"I don't believe you." She shook her head.

"Really? Whitney, you don't believe me?" Ok now I was getting mad. "Why would I ever try to make you unhappy?"

"Because you know if I am, I'll come back to you."

I took a deep breath, "ya know what, I can't...I can't do this..."

"Do what?" She said, getting confused again.

"This. Us."

"Zach we already ended the friends with benefits thing."

"No. I mean US." I told her.

"What..." She got quiet.

"I think you should go." I told her, trying to hold back the tears that were forming.

"Zach...you can't be serious right now?"

"How do you think it feels that every time he hurts you you come crying to me? It hurts me to see you hurt especially when I know I could be so much more for you. I can't fake it anymore Whitney. I just can't. It'll kill me."

We sat in silence.

"Fine." She opened the door and got out of the car.

"But just so you know, I'll always be here." And with that, she shut the door and walked away.

I slumped back in the driver's seat and closed my eyes. So much for dinner.
