《》Chapter 28

It has been a few days since I have seen her. I don't know if she is okay or if she is dead. Please, God, don't let her be dead!
I trudge across the field to the tree that we used to eat lunch at. I scratch at the beginnings of my beard. It has been a few days since I have shaved. Actually, I haven't shaved or properly taken care of myself since she was taken away. Huh, weird....
The habitat is silent as I sit down and lean my back against the aging tree. I remember a time, back when I was on Earth with Jerome. He always used to say "Shit happens for a reason."
What reason would he have for this? I'm just sitting here, doing nothing and Bella could be getting tortured or could be dead. There is no reason for her to be tortured. She isn't a bad person. Actually, she's the exact opposite of bad.
She's the light on a bright and sunny day. She brings happiness everywhere she goes. Even when she is having a bad day, she tries to make mine better. Her smile could bring any guy to their knees. Her hair could make you lose focus as the light hits it. I miss her. I miss her light snores as she sleeps on the red chair. I miss her laugh, a light hearty chuckle that could turn any grumpy old man into a smiling blushing fool.
Now the days are dreary and boring. Although it is bright and sunny, I feel like it should be storming. The sun does nothing to brighten my mood. The world doesn't deserve to be happy because Bella is missing. She is gone......
She is gone..........
"Drew.........." I murmur, waking up from that god awful dream. I open my eyes, instantly squinting, as the lights beat down on me and practically blind me.

"Ah, you're awake." A voice says to my right. Moving my head, I see it's just Nix...... Nix!?
"What's going on? Why am I strapped down?" I speak rapidly, as I try to slide my arms out of the straps.
"Well, my sweet, you had to be punished. You tried to run away and you can't do that, honey." He says, stroking my arm lightly. "I would like to say, though, that your screams were quite beautiful. They could be heard from two doors down. You have some powerful lungs."
What kind of sick fuck is he.....
"Fuck off." I say, building up enough spit in my mouth and spit at him. The saliva hits him square in the forehead and for a moment I'm proud. Then, reality comes crashing back in as I realized what I have done.
My head snaps to the left as a stinging sensation takes over my right cheek. He slapped me.
"Now that was quite rude, sweetheart." He says, wiping the spit off of his forehead. "Although, you do have great aim."
I give my most hateful glare but he seems unfazed by it. He stands up and crosses the nasty yellow room. He grabs a thin needle with some kind of liquid in it and then comes back.
"Now, this is just so you can remember not to run away again. Sweet dreams." He says, before sticking the needle in my arm.
The world quickly fades to black.

The Girl from the Mountain
Alexandra Bedford is a weapon, a young woman with telekinetic powers capable of leveling entire cities, born to fight in the desolate remains of post-apocalyptic North America. There is only one problem: she may be losing control of her abilities. Sixteen years after a global pandemic devastated the earth’s population, the lines in the old United States have been drawn between the Cheyenne Directorate in Colorado and the New England Alliance on the East Coast. The Directorate, of which Alexandra is a part, is a small but powerful organization dedicated to returning the country to its former glory. However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!

In The Tall Grass
Elizabeth Wilson commits suicide. She was the golden girl among her peers in Darkwood, Washington who stood above the pressure of her drug-ridden town. Explore the summer before her senior year that triggered the domino effect of Elizabeth's emotional and psychological breakdown that lead her to take her own life. This is the prequel to the main story, Petrichor and was never intended to be made. I wrote this because I wanted to explore Elizabeth's character and show how the main characters have changed since this event. I decided to release this first because Petrichor is undergoing a full rewrite. In the meantime, I'm writing a side story called Mourning Glory that takes place between the second and third act of Petrichor. Development is going rather fast so I suggest to to read that if you like this story
