《The Interview | ✔️》Getting to Know Each Other More

Ok. Is it weird that I'm at a bar, with my boss? He's actually nice. But I guess you don't notice it because he can be an uptight asshole most of the time. I wonder if he's got a girlfriend, I don't see a ring on his finger, so he's not married.
"So, tell me something about yourself. Something that is not work-related," he says
"Uhh... like what?" I ask
"Like, your favorite color or sport or song. Shit like that," he says
"Well, I don't have a favorite color, and I played volleyball and was on the track team in high school, and I don't have a favorite song or genre that I like to listen to. What about you?" I ask
"Practically the same, except I didn't play volleyball or was on the track team in high school. My time was taken up by football and then basketball," he replies
45 minutes later, I'm, you guessed it, drunk outta my mind. But Carter seems to be unfazed by the amount of alcohol he has consumed. Maybe it's because I drank way more than he did.
"So," he says "Tell me your life story," he asks
The memories all come back and a few tears slip.
"I didn't mean to upset, you don't-"
"I cut him off. It's ok. You did want to know something about me that's not work-related. My life is one fucked up story, so be warned" I say
"Ok. Warning taken," he says
"Ok. Let's see, where do I start. Ok, well I was born on July 16th, 1998 in Pennsylvania. I lived with my mom and dad and I have an older brother who's in the army. His name is Chase. I went to public school all my life, and life was pretty good until it was time for me to go to college. My parents wanted me to go to college to become a doctor, like them. I, of course, didn't want to. So we had a huge argument, insults going back and forth, yelling, screaming. My mom and dad had enough and kicked me out of the house. they told me to pack all my shit up and get out. My brother wasn't allowed to speak to me again, and my parents haven't spoken to me since. So, Tara who I went to school with since kindergarten, told me that she was moving to New York, and told me I should come with her. I got a job at the same diner as her and we worked together. I had some money saved up, so I was living in a pretty run down place and with my salary, I was trying to get my life back together. However, I failed miserably. Then, Jake walked into the diner one day. Jake and I started hanging out. And then he asked me out, obviously, I said yes. He was good looking and at the time, he wasn't a physco. He then moved in with me a couple of months later. That's when all the bullshit started. He would cheat on me numerous times with so many girls I would lose count. And every time I tried to leave, let's just say it got ugly. I didn't know how to put on makeup because I was never into it, so I had to do the walk of shame with all of the bruises." At this point, I was an emotional wreck. And before I could continue, Carter intervened.

"Wait, he hit you. Numerous times." he sounded angry. Like really, really angry.
"Yes, and if I tried to leave him he would threaten me with a knife and said that if I even thought about leaving he would find my family and killed them. And as much as I hated them for doing what they did to me, I couldn't risk that. Then the diner went out of business, so I wasn't getting paid anymore and if Jake found out about that he would lose it shit immediately. My salary had apparently signed up to be his drug and alcohol money. I also couldn't leave because I had nowhere else to go. Then Tara came up with the bright ass idea that I should run away and live with her, so I did and then she signed me up for this job and then I got the job and then you took me to this bar and we started talking. And that's my amazingly fucked up life." I say with jazz hands.
He's quiet. Well, that's just great. After he's done evaluating my life he says:
"Wow, I didn't expect that, at all," he says
"Well, what did you expect," I say, a little nastier than intended.
"Well, when I first saw you, I thought you were just a regular girl that moved out of her parents' house, decided not to go to college, and needed a job because the diner closed down. I didn't expect your background to be so terrible. High school seemed like it was good to you, but everything after that-"
"Went downhill," we said at the same time.
"Can I be honest about something?" I ask
"Sure"
"You're different than what I expected," I say
"Well, what did you expect," he asks questioningly
"Well, from the way you yelled at everybody, I thought you were a complete asshole and dickhead. And then, whenever I would walk into your office with my work done, you looked like an uptight asshole that needed to relax. It's like you were carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. I compared you to a ticking time bomb, one wrong move and you were just gonna explode." I said

That made him laugh, like really loud. People were staring at us like we were crazy
"I'm glad I took you to this bar. You're really cool. I'm glad I hired you." he says wholeheartedly
"So, now it's your turn," I say
"My turn? For what?" he asks
"I bared my soul to you, the least you could do is tell me something about yourself," I say
"Right. Ok, I was born on August 10th, 1996. I was homeschooled for elementary school but for high school, I went to a public one. I lived in New York my whole life. Went to college, graduated early and at the top of my class. Took over this company a year ago. Was going to get married, but she ended up cheating on me so I called it off. After that, I just went around with multiple girls, one night stands, you know the drill." he says
"Wow, you're really boring," I say laughing
"Excuse me, I'll have you know that I am quite fun," he says
"Yeah, sure. I'll believe that when I see it." I say
We were both laughing at this point.
"Why are those people taking pictures of us," I ask and point to the 2 men.
"Shit, ok we gotta go," he says as he pulls me by my arm.
"Alright, let me finish my drink at least first," I say as I quickly down what's left of my drink
"Ok, let's go," I say
We rush out of the bar, and into Carter's car. That's when I once again get a call from Tara.
"What now Tara," I say
"Ok, so can u find somewhere to stay, cause I met a guy, and he might take me to his house so we could you know."
"Oh God, spare me the details," I say disgusted
"So tell me, oh wise one, where should I stay?" I ask
"I don't know, just, see if Jake's home, if he isn't you just hideout there until morning. Just be sure to leave before he comes back."
"You're an ass you know that," I say
"But you love me, ok gotta go byeee." she says then hangs up.
"So where do you live?" Asks Carter
"I'm going back to Jake's since Tara isn't coming home at all," I say
"Are you out of your mind! You can't go back there, I'm not going to allow it. You're coming with me." He growls.
I was too tired to argue with him, so I went to sleep.
I was aware of when the car stopped, and I was being carried in to someplace, but I couldn't open my eyes because I was too lazy and too tired. The last thing I heard was
"Goodnight beautiful."
And then I slipped into oblivion.

Shadow in the North
What if a work of fiction wasn't fiction at all? What if we only thought it was fiction because it was written down, and we were separated from it by the page? Isabel Darrow, troubled by her past and feeling disconnected from the world, likes her doctor's suggestion that the world of fiction might become reality. She likes the idea of waking up in the middle of her favourite book with the handsome, brooding Mr Thornton glaring at people in his mill yard, but she doesn't worry about the foul air of dirty, smoky Milton, because it's not real, and it was written over 160 years ago.But then she takes a trip to Oxford, and gets waylaid along the way, finding herself greeted at a smoky train station, by a man called Mr Hale, who claims to be her godfather. When Isabel meets Margaret and first sees Mr Thornton, she's determined to help the course of love run a little more smoothly for the two stubborn lovers. But Gaskell hadn't accounted for a second young lady in the Crampton house, and whilst Isabel tries to adapt to a life where women have no independence or equality, Milton must adapt to her. The question is, will Mr Thornton adapt to her, or Margaret, first?
