My name is Lily Smith and I'll tell you all about him. Matt Galdieri. The boy with a million dollar smile, making everyone on his way drooling over him. His eyes brown as honey and his lips, the taste of peppermint and sunset all together. Actually, I never tasted sunset whenever I kissed him, but I got that feeling that is scattered all over your bones when you see a breathtaking sunset and you ask yourself, 'how on Earth am I alive to experience something as magical as this?'.
Just imagine yourself at the beach, and you hear the waves crashing at the wave breaker and you feel the warmth of the water on your feet and your eyes are set on the sun that is hiding behind that horizontal line. The line where the sky kisses the ocean and that's when the magic happens, the sun hides to find comfort and to gain strength to rise another day full of power and ready to shine. And that's what I really felt. I felt powerful and I always shined because he knew how to make me shine. At least for as long as fate gave us. Looking back, it's crazy how someone can have the ability to make you feel so much in a short period of time. Now I'm getting all romantic, but that's what Matt Galdieri made me feel. And...I have no regrets. I hope he doesn't either.

I remember clearly it was a sunny day. The sun was burning through my long sleeve white shirt, which I wore because I thought it was going to be cold, since when I woke up there was no sun in sight. I was wrong, there was no sign that cold weather was approaching us anytime soon. Just fyi, our town's weather is bipolar, at mornings you'd be trembling from the cold and then at noon you'd be melting from the heat, it's awful. And sometimes it's hot all day and other days it's cold all day, so it is pretty confusing for us people. But today, everyone was wearing not-that-cold-type of clothing, except for me, I was wearing long sleeves, way to go Lily. But that actually is totally irrelevant, I just wanted to get through this day and head back home and sleep until another day comes.
I was about to meet my friend, Alex, at the cafeteria. Alex was confident, sincere, trustworthy and sometimes, a little bit shy. She was the person I spent most of my time with, since she was in every class of mine. Some were boring, but others were really interesting and very dynamic. The one ahead of us, was boring as hell. But it was extremely important for us, due to our major in Mass Communications.
I made my way to one of the tables on the lower floor of the cafeteria, walking through students with their busy and messy lives, she was there with two other friends of ours. The thing with this cafeteria is that almost everyone loved to come here. So, it was always crowded as hell. People bumped into you and your ears could almost explode from the loudness of their voices whenever they walked past you. If you are a freshman, that kind of thing will annoy you almost 98.5%, but if you have been around the campus for two years now, the percentage decreases to a 70%, still pretty high. You get used to annoying people and show off girls begging for boys to notice how their hair flips, the way their laughs sound or how they chew like they are taking lunch with the royalty. Also you get used to the thick air, due to the amount of people breathing in and out. I remember that one time were I felt like screaming at everyone, thanks to the amount of people that were actually doing nothing, while people like me and my friends were waiting for a proper table at a proper location, to eat and have some rest from the tiring classes on our schedule. We had to go somewhere else, away from the food due to that. Now we always try to get there early, so we could save our favorite spot.

I got there and I was already included in their small semicircle. ''Hey guys,'' I said, waving my hand to them as they responded with a friendly smile. ''You ready?'' I asked Alex. She was fixing her hair as Bella was holding her a mirror up to the level of her eyes.
''In a minute.'' She said and I chuckled, rolling my eyes at her. She loved looking at her reflection, but I mean who doesn't? When you are pretty confident about yourself and your looks, it's hard to look away. But I've never seen someone so in love with themselves as she is, and I think it's totally okay. Self love comes first and the rest doesn't really matter.
''Come on, we'll be late.'' I started walking, pulling her from the straps of her pink and white book pack. She chuckled and then we started walking like normal people would. I remember our class was on the second floor, so the stairs weren't that many, but we were really lazy, so we always complained of how awful it was to walk up the staircase.
We glanced for a few seconds at the staircase waiting for us, then stepped on the first one. ''I really don't want to go to class.'' She informed, moaning like a dying whale. I completely understood the feeling, because I wanted to skip class too and just lay in bed and watch Netflix all day, but some things aren't meant to happen.
''Dude, we have to.'' I said, looking at her from the corner of my eye. I rolled my eyes at the simple idea of hearing our teacher speak. She was intelligent and she knew her stuff, but her voice was slow and it always gave me the desire to sleep through what the class lasted.
''I know,'' We stepped on the last step and started walking down the hall to our class. It was like the universe conspired to put the class as the last one on the hall, after walking up stairs, just to bug out the laziest people on Earth. When it came to home works and studying, we weren't lazy at all, but exercise was not our thing. Whether it was walking up stairs or going to the gym or anything in particular that included body movement. ''Hi.'' Alex waved at one of our classmates as I walked over to my seat, the one on the back, behind Matt Galdieri. At this point of the story, I have exchanged about two words with him and that's all. I wanted to talk to him more, but he made me nervous and I suck at talking with people. That's not my forte. But I really like him, physically, and you know, what I've heard so far about him, he seems like a nice guy. He seems like the type of guy to buy you flowers on a rainy day or the type of guy to wear cologne, just because you love how it smells. And I, as a hopeless romantic and most cliché girl on Earth, loved that kind of stuff. I blame romantic movies for my unrealistic expectations about men. But he seemed to be taken out of a movie like that, or that's what people said about him.
''I really feel like I need a break of everything.'' I said, as I gently threw my head against the wall. I was tired and the amount of home work lately was insane.
She looked at me. ''Tell me about it.'' Alex said, rolling her eyes and then, went back to her cellphone, checking Twitter and her other social media. I tapped my feet on the floor and pen on the table, while we waited for the teacher to arrive. I was hungry and I could feel my eyes slowly closing from the lack of sleep. As I took out my cellphone to check out my messages, he entered the room. Yes, Matt. He was wearing a red shirt and some blue jeans. Our eyes met and he gave me a friendly smile. His smile was beautiful. It was like sunbeams coming out of it. He sat in front of me, as he usually does. But no word traveled between us this time. I cleared my throat and looked at Alex, I headed my eyes to his direction, then to her and she nodded. We had this thing where one of us knew what the other was thinking with just one look. Usually, he sits and says 'good morning', but this time he didn't. I wondered what was going on in his mind or if he hated me for some stupid reason. Or if he simply wasn't in the mood for small talk. I was really paranoid about everything, always questioning and counting my steps to anything I did.

The sound of heels clicking on the floor was a familiar sound now. ''Good morning class,'' I directed my attention to the teacher as she walked over to her desk. ''Take out your homework and I'll pass by your seats and check it out.'' She said as she paced toward the other end of the room. She started off with the first student. The boy with the piercing and the long, dark hair. I bit my lip, hesitating to touch Matt's shoulder, but I did it anyway. I wanted him to talk to me and I wanted to talk to him about something really interesting.
''Hi, did you do the homework?'' I smiled, trying to shield the nervous feeling I was having all over my body.
''Mhm,'' He nodded, eyeing me from the corner of his eye. ''Want to see?'' He asked, my insides flipped out. He was actually trying to create a conversation with me.
He was still looking at me from the corner of his eye. Small wrinkles forming. ''Sure.'' I smiled and he turned around, holding his notebook on his hand. He slowly flipped the pages, stopping for a few seconds. His fingers slid through the page, showing me the words he wrote on black ink and I looked at his fingers and then I reached for his eyes, that met mine instantly. I smiled after watching him smile. I looked down at his notebook, while he started explaining to me what he did with the information. I actually didn't pay much attention to the words he chose to say to me, I could only hear his voice ringing in my head, until the teacher interrupted us. Great. After she checked my homework, she checked his and then she walked away from us, but he didn't turn around. He was still facing me, but I didn't feel his gaze on me this time. I looked at Alex, she was finishing the homework, since she forgot it was due today. Her eyebrows were furrowed and her hand was moving fast as she finished writing the last words. She stood up in a rush and paced toward the teacher, to get her signature and today's points, of course. A sigh escaped my lips as I watched him turn around, back to the same old seating position. Now talking to him was going to be even harder to do, since there was no topic to talk about now, except for this boring class. And to be honest, who would want to talk to some awkward girl about home works? Exactly, nobody. I was dying for this period to be finally over and time was moving too slow for my taste. Maybe I could catch some words with him after class, just maybe.

Alex and I arrived to the cafeteria after we spent an hour listening to the teacher talk about stuff we really weren't interested in. We sat on a table for two as we waited for our other two friends. The place was full with other people and the noise from the small talks, annoyed me a little bit. There was a group of guys on a table for four, blasting music through some speakers. Why in hell? I looked at them with a weird expression on my face, then I turned around to face Alex, who was completely lost in her cellphone.
''Hi.'' Bella and Zoey said at the same time, they seemed tired too. I could see it written in their face, how their eyes were almost closing and dark circles were prominent.
''Hey girls.'' I replied, as I gave a spiritless wave at them. Alex and I stood up and the four of us walked over to the exit. Bella and I were walking ahead of the other two, but no conversation was being made. We were too tired to even think about a topic. But Alex and Zoey were discussing the good looks of Andrew Garfield and how incredible his performance on 'The Amazing Spiderman' was. I agreed with them, in my head. I didn't say anything.
The bus station located at the entrance/exit of the campus was crowded with other students, who were dying to get home, just like the four of us. We waited for the bus to arrive and in the meantime we started talking about boys and our boring classes, this time we really made an effort to keep a conversation. Just to make time pass. It was a typical thing for us to do, since as normal teenage girls, boys were our favorite topic.
''I really dislike my Accounting teacher, he speaks slowly and it gets on my nerves.'' Zoey spoke, breaking out from the boys topic, crossing her arms and pouting her lips. I chuckled and looked away. I zoned out for a while, but I could still hear their conversation going on. They were still talking about Accounting...boring. I was trying to focus on the idea of having my head placed on my pillow, my eyes closed and some soothing music as my background noise, but their voices were loud enough for me to focus on both things.
Some blurry hand motion was in my sight now. ''Earth to Lily.'' Alex said, she was really waving her hand in front of my eyes.
''Sorry, I was thinking about-''
''Matt!'' Alex joked, interrupting my speaking. She gently elbowed me and I shook my head, chuckling. Zoey and Bella started bugging me after Alex mentioned his name and I just chuckled, trying to avoid the topic. Thing is, he'd probably thinks I'm disgusting and not worthy of his words. Plus, there was a tiny flaw in him...he was dating someone. And who am I to get between a relationship? For all I know, I wouldn't like that to happen to me. I don't think any girl does.
''He is with someone else, guys. I mean, he's handsome but I don't think he thinks I'm pretty,'' I said, shrugging and looking at my feet. ''And if he does, he shouldn't.'' My arms were crossed, pressed against my chest.
''He's coming, act chill.'' Bella said, looking down at the ground, while I kept myself from smiling.
''Good bye girls.'' He waved, passing right by us and I saw him there, walking and I thought to myself that if you can tell the universe that you want someone, things would be easy. But the universe is a bitch and it never gives you what you want.
"Bye." We all said in a chorus, seconds after.
''He's gorgeous.'' I said, still captivated by him and the way he spoke and the way he moved and the way he simply waved at us.
''Uh-uh,'' Bella said, crossing her arms. ''He has something weird on his face.''
''I don't see it.'' Alex and I spoke, at the same time and we high-fived each other. Zoey checked the clock on her cellphone and gave us a sign it was time to board the bus. We started to walk toward it, and I couldn't stop wondering about him and why, why he had something inviting. He had something and I couldn't figure what it was that made him so attractive to me. Maybe I was meant to never figure it out.
