《Why Did I do This to Myself?!? (One Piece Fanfic)》Reading + Science = Explosion

Jinx's POV:
I've been stuck at this marine base for the past month. Hiroshi has not really been doing his job, he checks every so often. But that's bout it. The lady that gives me my food checks on me more, this is just sad. She hasn't told me her name yet so I just call her Gertrude.
Apparently this island is having pirate problems, even though it has a marine base on it. Kinda sad in all honesty. But the pirates have been destroying the supplies shipments for the marines. So that means there low on food and other important things.
I've been listening to Hideyosi (who is apparently the person in charge of this island) and he sent a request for help to Garp. I fear for my life. Like, I want to meet him but I fear his presence on this island if he responds to the request. I mean, what are the chances he'll say yes. He's not even in the grand line right now.
But what I've been occupying myself this past month is reading, science, stealing small items and exercising to keep myself fit. I still need to be able to knock out marines if necessary.
I've been developing a explosive that will detonate on contact to water. So I can make more efficient cannonballs that'll do more damage. It's been hard to find places to test it cause I don't want anyone to know what I'm working on.
I also figured out were there keeping my grapplebat. I haven't taken it back yet because that would raise suspicion. Also I've been wearing masks recently to cover my messed up mouth.
But at the point with developing the explosive, I've gotten it to explode but not that big. It's like at the level of one of those lame firecrackers you get at the dollar store. So I've been working on making it make a more powerful explosion, my goal is to make it strong enough to sink a marine ship. Like one of the big metal ones.

But with training, I've been working on actuary and speed. A little bit of strength training so I'm not a complete twig, need to be able to hit pressure point hard enough to knock the person out right?
Other things I've been doing is making small machines to spy on and record people for me. That what I've been doing with the small thing I steal anyway, you'd be surprised at how easily you can make dangerous devices out of the most unsuspecting things.
I'm just walking down a hallway when I hear some chatter from the marines walking by.
"Did you hear, marine hero Garp excepted our plea for help!" Shit...
"That's good! He'll get rid of the pirates running amuck." Isn't that your job?
We'll guess that's happening now. Time to pray to god that he doesn't figure me out. But with that dam will of D. this is going to be a pain in the but to deal with. At least he's not going to be taking me with him... Dino nuggets, I jinxed it didn't I. Guess I was named Jinx for a reason, thanks god.
I head to my room and lock the door behind me. I guess I might as well start work on unlocking my haki in here while I wait out the storm that is Garp.
My room is a total mess, i need to put away my projects before someone comes barging in here unannounced. I put the mess away and put the books I got from the library on my desk, sitting on my bed I do my best to meditate.
------- 2 hours later -------
I'm so hungry... Fridge it! Im getting food. Getting up I start my trek to the cafeteria, today is friday so that means there doing sandwiches for lunch~! They make really good sandwiches, I should also say hi to Gertrude while I'm there.

Not paying attention to were I'm going dew to inner dialogue, I walk into someone. I want to die. Looking up cuz I'm a midget, I see I walked into Hideyosi-san's leg.
"Sorry mr. Hideyosi!" I bow down a little while apologizing.
"It's ok Birdy, but someone is going to be arriving in the next day or two to help out with our pirate problem. So I want you to be on you best behavior, ok?"
"Yes sir!" I give him a 2 finger salute and he gives me a head pat. Hair is in my eye's now.
To be honest, for a second I thought that was gonna be Garp or something. Because I am a punching bag charecter, things normally don't go this well for me. And it's just like the universe to do me dirty like that.
So I continue on my quest to get the Holy sandwich from Gertrude, mentally crying from what is to come.
