《Violet Eyes || Haikyuu!! Fanfiction ||》Chapter 34: Inter High Prelims

Ayame sat between Tsukishima and Yamaguchi in the bus. Since the Inter High is in the weekend, she's allowed her to wear her normal clothes, so, she wore their official club jacket with a shirt underneath, navy blue shorts and shoes. Heavens, she couldn't stand showing off that much skin so she wore leggings. When she arrived dressed like that, Nishinoya and Tanaka fainted on the spot and Yamaguchi's face was beet red because of too much "cuteness".
"Ayame, are you seriously wearing that?" Tsukishima said, raising an eyebrow. Ayame looked at him confusingly.
"Why? Is there something wrong with it?"
"Well..." however, before he could say something, Nishinoya and Tanaka, who are sitting in front of them, peered from the back of their chairs.
"Oi! Tsukishima! You have no right to tell Ayame-chan about her outfit!" Nishinoya scolded him. Tanaka nodded in agreement "Yeah!! Ayame-chan gets to decided what she will be wearing today!!"
"It's all right, Yuu-senpai, Ryu-senpai" she told them "I don't mind it"
"But-" they stopped protesting when Daichi in front of their seats shouted "Oi! You two! Sit down!" and they obliged.
"C-crap...she's so adorable...I want to touch her...Agh! Stupid! Stupid! Quit thinking dirty thoughts!" Yamaguchi thought, mentally slapping his head.
They parked the bus and their coach stood in front of them for an announcement.
"Remember, ignore what they're saying. If they started calling us "the flightless crows", we can't help it. Our reputation will change soon, once we win the first round" Coach Ukai reminded them. The players nodded and walked towards the Sendai Municipal Gymnasium, earning a few murmurs from spectators.
"It's them"
"The "flightless crows" and the "fallen giant"..."
"Karasuno"
"Keep walking...ignore them...keep walking..." Ayame repeated the words in her head. Every word she heard irked her and Yamaguchi and Tsukishima have to push her to keep her walking.
"Torino?"
"Nah, it's Karasuno, you know, the former powerhouse school?"
"Oh, yeah, the school who used to go to the Nationals but not anymore"
"There's a saying about their team"
"What's that?"
"Flightless Crows. The Fallen Giants"
What the two players didn't notice was, that there's the Karasuno Volleyball team behind them. All players were glaring so hard that they could actually pierce their thick skulls.
"Flightless you say? Is that what you said?" Tanaka spoke with an intimidating face, scaring the poor player. Coach Ukai pulled him back before he could intimidate him any further.

"What did I tell you earlier? I told you to ignore them!" the coach whispered harshly but he suddenly sweat dropped after he felt a tremendous aura emitting from the violet eyed girl. His face paled after he saw her yandere expression. "Damn, she's even worse...she's like Kazumi-san"
"Flightless crows?" Ayame darkly asked in her yandere look. The two players sweat dropped at the young girl's terrible aura "Listen, calling us flightless crows is going to be your greatest regret. You don't know who you're facing with so you don't have the right to call us flightless crows"
"E-EEEP!!"
"Yikes! She's a demon! Scary!" Karasuno's player's sweat dropped.
Yamaguchi and Tsukishima pulled her back and covered her mouth and apologized.
"Damn it, I told you guys to control your temper! Ayame, I didn't expect you to lose your cool like that but please, don't do that again" Coach Ukai scolded them "That was...scary..."
Ayame grinned in the creepiest yandere way possible "Scary?"
Everyone paled and nodded shakily "S-stop that!! It's scary!!"
A light bulb shone above Yamaguchi's head and he rummaged in his bag for a chocolate drink and showed it on her face and gave it to her. Instantly, she dropped her yandere look to a cheerful one while drinking it with flower backgrounds. Everyone sighed in relief.
"How did you know?" Daichi asked him. Yamaguchi sheepishly rubbed his nape "W-well, aside from spicy foods, Ayame also has a sweet tooth and I usually saw her drinking that every lunch. It was a lucky guess"
"Lucky guess or are you observing her that close, hmm?" Sugawara's teasing voice caused the freckled teen to look away in embarrassment. Nishinoya and Tanaka stared at him intently.
"I-It's n-nothing like that" he replied, glancing at the oblivious girl.
"Well, lucky guess or not, at least she's back to normal" the captain said and they nodded.
Ayame is busy enjoying her drink with a bright and flowery aura to listen or to notice what they're talking about. Yamaguchi made a small smile while watching her drink. Her smiles really affected him in some ways.
As soon as they entered, all eyes were on them. Murmurs of spectators and players alike are heard as they passed.
"That one doesn't look like a high schooler"
"Hey, is that guy...." One muttered in disbelief "That's Karasuno's Azumane" The mention of his name made Asahi flinch.

"Don't you know? I heard guys from Kita High worked for him to extort money"
"I also heard he sold illegal substances on the street"
"They say he's been in high school for five years"
The third year sulked as he heard the rumors about him "As usual, the gossip around Asahi never changed" Sugawara chuckled as he comforted Asahi.
"All because of his appearance..." Daichi said, however, he was surprised to find the girl glaring at them intensely. Tsukishima face palmed as he remembered the words she told him the day before she joined the club.
Don't judge the book by its cover.
"Damn, she's pissed..." the megane thought.
Yamaguchi pulled her by the arm to make her move "A-Ayame, please stop glaring them. I-I know how you hate it when people judge others by their appearance but please stop that because..." he gulped and whispered "I also know how it feels to be judged..."
She stopped and looked at him. His face was a little sad but he quickly replaced it with a pleading look. She softened her expression and sighed "O-okay...S-sorry...I-I got-"
"I understand..." he said softly. They continued walking until they passed a couple of high school students.
"Hey, look, it's their managers" a boy nudged his friend "I dare you to talk to the one with glasses"
Before they could make a move on her, Nishinoya and Tanaka began to circle around her like wild dogs, sending vicious looks. To stop them, the manager hit their heads with her notebook.
"Stop that" she scolded.
"We've been hit by Kiyoko-san~!" they sighed dreamily.
"Hey, look, that violet eyed girl is cute" another player whispered "Karasuno's manager also?"
"Looks like it. She's the cuter version of their manager"
"I'm not a manager!! Why can't they see me as the assistant coach?!" Ayame screamed inside her head.
"Go ask for her number. I dare you" a boy told his friend. Before he could approach her, Tsukishima and Yamaguchi gave them a cold stare and they backed off.
"Not a meter closer..."
While they were walking, Karasuno bumped to a group of players in white uniforms with "Date Tech" printed on it. Without uttering a single word, the guy with no eyebrows pointed his finger to Asahi, threateningly. The ace didn't, luckily, have a nervous breakdown.
"You got a problem?" Nishinoya glared at the tall player but Asahi stopped him.
"Wow...the tension is insane..." Ayame thought, looking at the ace and Date Tech's player, who are staring at each other straight in the eye.
"Hey, hey, Aone! Stop that!" their captain quickly arrived and attempted to pull down his arm but it didn't budge "Futakuchi! Help me out!" he called to the brunette teen next to him.
"Sure. Sorry about that. This guy targets our opponent's ace whenever he sees them" Futakuchi said, pushing down his arm in succession. However, his tone was mocking and it irked Nishinoya and Ayame to the point the girl is tempted to cuss him.
"What the fu-" but Tsukishima and Yamaguchi quickly covered her mouth before she could continue.
"So you better be ready" he told them, winking at Ayame before leaving. Yamaguchi flinched when she was winked at and tried to act calm.
"That was a little jarring" Sugawara said after the opposing team left "I'm amazed you stared back at him-" he turned to look at their ace, who looked like he saw a ghost.
"Th-that was nerve racking..."
"Why are you such a wimp off court?" Nishinoya asked him, who was obviously unfazed from earlier.
Daichi stumbled to an old friend and he told them to start warming up. Ayame noticed that Hinata's trembling nervously. She too, was secretly nervous since it's her first time to help the team on court but she tried to put on a calm act for their sake. However, she kept biting her lower lip in nervousness.
"Shoyo-kun, what's wrong?" she asked in concern.
"N-nothing! I'm fine" he replied, but his body language is different from his words.
"Asahi's cowardly too, but he doesn't seem nervous" Sugawara noted.
"I have a trick to calm my nerves" Asahi told them "I try and remember my scariest experience I've ever had. The scarier the better. Then I think to myself, "Whatever happens, it can never be as scary as that". It puts me on an even keel"
However, all color drained from the orange haired teen's face and he fell on his back "Shoyo-kun!! Wake up!!" Ayame told him, shaking his collar.
"Great job, Asahi"
