《(Discontinued) Outer Banks | JJ x reader》Part 13

We went to Kie's parents restaurant after school and talked for a while, trying to come up with some plans and just talking.
"Kiara, I do need those setups done by five!" Kie's mom yelled as we walked out to go sit on the dock instead so people wouldn't eavesdrop.
"There are other people that work here!" Kie shouted back. "None of them are my children!" Mrs Anna said.
"I feel that. On a deep, emotional level, I understand that." Pope said as we sat down. "So we goin to the Bahamas or what?" JJ asked.
"Dude, there's no way we'll get to the Bahamas." Pope replied. "John B's gonna get nabbed sooner or later. So if we're gonna clear his name, we need to have done it like yesterday." I said.
"I'll tell you how we do it," JJ stood up. "Oh, so you have it all planned out?" Pope questioned. "As a matter of fact, I do." JJ replied.
"We kidnap Rafe." He said. We all just stared at him in disbelief for a second. "I'm sorry, what?" Pope asked.
"We kidnap Rafe, tie him up and stick the gun in his mouth and just wait until he starts squawking." JJ explained.
"Yeah, so how exactly do you plan on clearing John B's name from a prison cell? Because tortures a felony." I said.
"All right, well, what do you got? I was just trying to keep it simple. You know, one stop, and we're done." JJ protested.
"Guys, all we need is a material witness. We saw Wards plane fly right over our heads with the gold inside of it." Pope said before I could keep arguing with JJ.
"He didn't fly it. And if somebody else was flying it, they were there on the tarmac. They saw Peterkin get murdered." Pope added.

"We just have to find whoever that was and get them to confess in record." I said. "Exactly." Pope replied with a smile, happy someone understood.
"How do we do that?" Kie asked. "A little light espionage." Pope replied. "A little ghost recon." JJ smiled.
"Woogity-woogity." Pope said. "Woogity-woogity, baby." JJ said excitedly and him and Pope did the weird handshake thing.
~~~
We got back in Mrs Anna's car, Kie driving again.
"If this guy flew planes for Ward, he's gotta be pretty tight-lipped." Pope said as we drove to the guy, who we believed flew the plane's, house.
JJ cocked his gun. "So then direct approach gets my vote." He said. "JJ, no." Pope replied, turning around from the front seat.
"No." Kie and I also said at the same time.
"Guys! We gotta keep this simple, or we'll never get John B off." JJ protested. "Or, we just tickle the wire." I said.
"What?" They all asked at the same time. "We tickle the wire." I repeated. "I put my phone in his car," I reached up to the front seat and grabbed Kie's airpods off the dashboard, "and we listen on your airpods." I explained as I put them in.
I held my phone up to Kie's mouth. "Say something." I said. "Something." Kie replied, repeating it perfectly in my ear.
"Works." I told them. "Okay. Sweet." Pope replied.
"I think that's his house over there." Pope said, pointing to the one across the street.
"All right," I opened the door of the car. "We'll honk or yell or something if there's anything suspicious." Pope told me. "Thought that was an obvious." I replied sarcastically.
"Don't do anything dangerous." JJ said before I closed the door. I didn't know how to respond, if I wanted to sarcastically or be serious. I decided sarcastic. As always.
"No, really? I thought our goal was to go to jail or get killed." I replied. They know my coping mechanism is sarcasm. JJ smiled slightly and I panicked and shut the door. Smooth.
It wasn't that hard to get to the car. I quietly opened the door, but then ducked when someone came into the window behind the car.
I looked again for a second before realizing the window was very foggy and they weren't even looking at me.
I unlocked my phone, turned on the recording thing, and put it under the seat before running back out.
"Okay. It's there." I said as I got back in the car. They all were looking at each other weird. Someone definitely said something odd. My vote was JJ.
We parked where the house couldn't see us and waited till dark.
Pope wanted me to call Gavin, the man, and threaten him or make him nervous or something.
"Why do they get to tickle?" JJ asked, wanting to do it himself. "They're the best tickler." Pope replied, gesturing to me.
"Definitely disguise your voice." Kie told me before I called. "Disguise my voice how?" I wondered. "Like this?" I talked in a not bad but not good British accent.
"Not like that." JJ said while Pope and Kie said, "No."
"Batman." JJ told me. "Batman?" I repeated. "Yeah like a deep voice." Kie added. "Absolutely not." I said.
"Okay just call the number!" Pope said, done with our bickering.
I called. It only took a second before a mans voice picked up, saying, "Hello?"
"Is Gavin there?" I asked, the phone on speaker. "This is Gavin, who's this?" Gavin replied. I didn't respond for a second to raise suspension. "Hello?" Gavin asked.
"I know what happened on the tarmac." I said seriously. Gavin laughed nervously. "Uhm... who's this?" He asked quieter. "It was Rafe Cameron. But you already knew that, and you lied about it." I kept talking.
"Okay. Who is this?" Gavin asked, more serious now.
"We're gonna prove it." I continued while Gavin said, "You're gonna tell me who this is right now."
"You could have saved her, Gavin, and you didn't. And you're not getting away with this."
"Listen to me! Who is this!" Gavin was now yelling. I hung up.
"Like that?" I asked, handing Pope his phone back. "Yeah, I was scared." JJ replied. "Good job." Kie added. Pope fist bumped me.
"All right. We tickled the wire. Phase two complete. Now we wait and listen." Pope told us.
Nero Zero
Monsters plagued the lands for too long. No matter if one had fangs, beak, teeth, skin, fur, or feather, or was tall, stout, or diminutive, the people suffered. Until the Gadgeteers came with a device that could allow people to fight back. Powered by one's own magical power, feeding off of monster Essence, the Arbitrium bracer turned the tables. It also changed society. Strength of one's level cap was all that mattered. The strongest were Kings and Emperors. The weak or those too poor to afford the marvelous device, destitute. And so it has been for millennia. All that mattered was one's level cap. High, low, a fate decided the moment the strange contraption came alive. Too high and you were a threat to those interested in keeping the status quo, a weed to be nipped before it could grow and take root. Too low and you were nobody, fated to be a bit more than a simple farmer. What if someone, somewhere, came up with a zero for their level cap? Unable to use Essence, unable to level up. On all of recorded history, it never happened. Until it did. In a small village of fur-less and tail-less ape-beastkin, a boy found out he was uniquely handicapped. Nero's level cap was Zero. But he'd never let that stop him from reaching his goals. ------------------------------------------------ All stories have already been told. We merely reuse elements from them. From Joseph Campbell's Monomith to Stephen King's advice, and that encyclopedia of tropes you've visited, fiction has been dissected and reassembled countless times. One will surely find elements inspired on other works here. Just like cooking from basic ingredients, the recipe and presentation is what really matter. This is a fantasy adventure, of someone that goes from a zero to a slightly bigger zero. It will have romance but no harem. Cruelty but with hope dimly shining ahead. Lightweight where it can be, heavy where it must. Thanks for reading. Cover Credits (The cover is CC-BY-NC-SA): Steampunk Spider Bracer, by Daniel Proulx.
