《(Discontinued) Outer Banks | JJ x reader》Part 16

We brought the gun to Shoupe. Sitting in his office, we told him about it.
"So y'all are telling me this is the firearm Rafe Cameron used to kill Peterkin with?" Shoupe asked after all of it. "That's exactly what we're telling you." JJ responded.
"And the exact same firearm that Ward just used to kill Gavin." Pope added.
"Where's that corpse again?" Shoupe asked us. "You didn't look?" I asked angrily. "I checked the hospital. I went by his house, he was out." Shoupe replied.
"He was out? Listen to yourself. It makes perfect sense." Kie told Shoupe. "No shit! 'Cause he's dead!" JJ said at the same time, yelling slightly at the end.
"Just because he's not in his damn house does not mean he was a victim of a homicide." Shoupe replied, loosing patience with us.
"What are you talking about!" Kie exclaimed. "You gotta be kidding me." I said. "Are you at least gonna send it in for ballistics and shit or are you just gonna sit on your ass?" I asked Shoupe.
I was planning on being something in the FBI or something like that when I grew up so I knew how cops were supposed to do it. That plan wasn't working out very well by the way, already have way too many felonies and don't plan on going to college.
"He'll sit there and wax that damn mustache. Is that even real?" JJ said. Shoupe stood up, saying, "I'll wax this-" Pope cut Shoupe off by yelling at JJ.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Did I hurt his feelings?" JJ asked sarcastically as Shoupe walked out. "Shut up!" Pope yelled at him again.
"Get out," Shoupe showed us the door, "I got work to do. Y'all are smelling up my damn office."

Kie stood up and walked over to Shoupe. "Did Ward bribe you? This doesn't make any sense." She said before walking out.
"You're not gonna do shit." I muttered as I walked out after her.
~~~
We all went to the Chat afterwards. Pope and Kie were outside talking and I showered and changed.
JJ was sitting in the living room. He was staring at the ground in some apparent deep thought.
"Hey, earth to JJ." I said, snapping my fingers in front of him as he didn't even look up when I came out of my room.
"Hm?" He hummed. He wasn't being normal him but I let it go. "Nothing." I replied.
Right, now I wanted to be as high as possible.
I had to have some weed somewhere. After looking through some cabinets and stuff I found some in a bag. That got JJ's attention. But not in the way I expected.
"No." He told me, standing up abruptly. "What?" I questioned. JJ never turns down weed or stops me.
"Please, (Y/N), no more. Just take a break." JJ said, almost begging. "It's not going to kill me, J." I replied.
"No but you're addicted now." JJ said. "As if you're not?" I asked, now offended. I probably was addicted, no I am addicted, but who was he to tell.
JJ stared at me for a second and then sat back down on the couch in defeat. "Fine. I won't. If you tell me what happened." I told JJ, throwing the bag on the table. "What?" JJ asked.
"What happened. Why'd you break up with me." I continued. "I know I cheated but with who. Who was it." I added.
"You don't even remember?" JJ asked, putting his head in his hands as if it was the most stressful thing. "No." I said quieter.
JJ sat quite for a second. "I'm not telling you." He decided, standing up. He started walking into the guest room. "JJ please." I said quietly but desperately. There was only three people I would hook up with that's not JJ. And I was really hoping it wasn't the last one. I don't know what I would do if it was.
I was over him and hoped I would never go back to him. (The other two would be Kie and Pope by the way but I'd have to be extremely fucked up... which I was)
JJ stopped walking, thinking about it again. "No. It would hurt you more than it hurt me." He closed the guest room door, not even looking at me.
Fucking shit damnit I hate myself.
I picked up a beer bottle and threw it at the wall. On accident of course, of course.
A piece of it, with my luck, came back and cut my face right below the eye. Love my life so much.
I cleaned up the beer first because I didn't want it to be moldy you know. Then I went to the bathroom to fix my cheek.
JJ came out of the guest room, already changed into more comfortable clothes, and found me cleaning my cheek.
He looked at the sort of stain on the wall and put together the pieces.
I didn't really want him to come up to me but he did. He held my jawline, gently moving my face so he could look at the cut. Yes, I let him.
He grabbed my hips and turned me so that he could see in the light better. Still not saying anything, he grabbed a cotton ball and put cleaning alcohol on it.
It didn't hurt that badly when he cleaned the cut (I had already cleaned off majority of the blood). I mean it hurt worse when it cut.
It wasn't bad enough to get stitches or anything so he just put 3 butterfly bandages on it to keep it from re-opening and to help it heal faster.
There's always that moment in books when you stare at someone else and it's like time's not a thing or it feels like no one else was there. But this time it was real. Time really wasn't a thing, we had no where to be. And no one else was there.
Just us, looking into each other's eyes in silence but a comfortable silence. One that could fill everything we couldn't say to each other.
His lips slowly found their way to mine or my lips found a way to his, either way it was like a magnet.
JJ's hands grabbed my waist, pulling me closer to him. My hands went around his neck, one tangled in his hair.
It was like how it used to be but something was always going to be different. The small pang of hurt that JJ got, knowing that I had kissed someone else the same way. The guilt I felt, knowing what I had done, that it hurt JJ and that I had vowed never to hurt him.
But it was almost the same. I didn't want it to end. I didn't want him to pull away from me, to loosen his grip on me, to open his eyes and part his mouth and not even look me in the eyes and tell me the words that I knew were one of the worst ones I could ever listen to.
"Rafe. You were with Rafe Cameron."
Cutting to Life: an NPC LitRPG (Battle Royale)
Nikola is an NPC in The World of Wills, a video game where players can feel sensations as if they were truly there. She leads a life of bloodshed and murder - that is, until one day she wakes up sapient. Just as she begins thinking real, non-scripted thoughts and making connections, she and the players in the game are told that if they die in the game, they die in real life - and it's time to get killing. But what of Nikola, the emerging AI consciousness? How does she win in a game that can only end in her being wiped from existence at the end of it all? - Updates Mondays and Fridays. Cutting to Life is a slow-burn LitRPG with a villainous (later anti-hero, or maybe still villainous, haha) female lead.It's told from the perspective of Nikola, an NPC within the World of Wills who's become sapient and is now mysteriously able to play the game as a PC. It's quite light for a LitRPG, but the system and stats become more of a focus later when Nikola herself can access them.The story gradually builds into a Battle Royale where the players' lives are on the line (if you die in the game, you die in real life), and only one party of savvy adventurers can win. They'll have to spend their time and stats wisely as dungeons promising rare gear float down from the sky - but is a legendary sword worth killing someone for, knowing they'll stay dead forever? - This story is told in third person, past tense.- This is a slow-burn LitRPG that spends a lot of time establishing its setting and characters, because I believe this will make for a better payoff in the end. As such, the Battle Royale doesn't start until chapter 30 or so.- Chapters are anywhere between 800 words and 3000 words long.- Book cover by Vixeona.Cutting to Life is also being posted on SPB and Scribble Hub.Thank you sincerely for reading.
