《Project Abra》The 3rd Rail
Advertisement
After the brief interruption that was the drone, I went back to gutting the space heaters. After almost an hour, I had finally gotten what I wanted from them. Assorted electrical parts. Switches, capacitors, wires, all would be helpful in the future. I still feel like I know a decent amount about electronics, even after my mind got wiped, even though I don't remember anything about my past, or where I am. Knowing where I am would definitely be more useful in this situation than knowing how to wire.
After climbing back up the stack of cargo crates to the top, I stuff all of my loot, as well as my now useless gun in the bag, and start continuing along the girder. The slow crawling is a grueling task, but escape is the main thing on my mind, as I pull myself and my bag over the long fall to the floor. After an indeterminate amount of time passes, shadow pipes up.
~Something fell through the ceiling~
Where?
~Left, further left. There, where the knocked over tower of containers is~
So that could very possibly be an escape route, but the platform is closer
[It is also likely that considering how long ago this facility was abandoned, the entry hole is covered]
After agreeing that it might be a viable option, I continue crawling along the cold girder

After several more hours of crawling, the girder finally goes over the platform, leaving me to drop down onto the tram platform. The tram platform is even more creaky than the platform we entered from and feels like it's about to collapse. It bounces when I step on, not a very good sign.
~Do you feel like you're being watched? ~
[No]
Yes, I have 3 voices in my head, I don't need anymore

~No, from behind us~
[I hear large movements on the pillar about 50 meters directly behind us. I would advise no sudden movements]
Before I can finish turning around, I see a yellow flash diffusing back from the moist concrete wall, accompanied by the sound of tearing metal. A rusting girder about 50 meters long starts to fall, the LED lights on it flickering and going out. It hits the lopsided container tower that there was apparently something large on, and it starts to collapse, the clattering metal scraping together, before a explosion goes off towards the bottom of the stack, sending the whole stack toppling over in a fiery mess.
The fuck was that
~No clue, haven't been down this far before~
[We can see the pit from here]
I strain to look down to it from this platform's altitude. It's there though, several dozen meters across the pit, irregularly shaped. Small amounts of the swamp water dribble into the pit, falling down for untold distance.
I turn around to head into the actual tram station. The wall appears to be heavily reinforced, with a small doorway. Walking through it, the guard station is directly to my right, with a short and wide-open window, for scanning ids and such. Beyond that is a metal detector, and then it opens to the actual train platform. On the rails is an intact, albeit dirty looking high speed rail train. I quickly walk over and try to get into the control car.
Damit, the doors locked
[You have clearance]
I quickly hold jade up to the door, and sure enough it dings, and slowly slides open. The controls are fairly basic, just an accelerator, brakes, and a way to communicate with the station, along with the intercom system and aerial tranquilizer system. I flick on the interior lights, testing if the train has any power.

Ok, the train doesn't have power, the 3rd rail must not be receiving power, or the coupling is broken
~I am afraid to ask, do we have the right equipment to test if the 3rd rail is getting power~
There's one way that doesn't require any special tools
[No. Don't do, no. Stop thinking that]
I could touch it
~I agree with jade on this rare occasion, just don't do it~
[Just get a magnet]
Begrudgingly I add a magnet to the list of stuff I need to find and go to check out the guards post next to the door. I have to crawl through the window, due to the door being jammed shut, squeezing myself flat through, and roll to the ground, banging my shoulder against the desk. Thankfully there were some very helpful things in the booth. A X-Particle rifle, along with a bunch of non-stale batteries plugged into the power grid.
[The particle rifle is significantly more powerful than the pistol, being able to kill a human in one shot]
~We need to get food soon~
I agree, it looks like there might be some food down at the bottom
[I highly recommend sleeping before you do that. You should probably sleep in the guardroom, due to that being the safest, and close enough to the computer that I might be able to get some general status reports on systems.]
You can do that?
[I can check server statuses etc., yes]
So, I settled inside the guard's post, sleeping in the cheap office chair. At least it's warmer than the frozen mattress

Zero Visible
What would an anime be like from the perspective of a background character? From birth, Reikawa Yuuya has had the ability to see the character arcs of the people around him, a skill passed down through his family. Combined with his extremely low presence, Yuuya is in the perfect position to be an observer in countless stories. The thing is, though, the humans in this city aren’t people. Not to him.And he’s afraid of what they can become.(Disclaimer: This is a psychological drama. Yuuya starts the story off with severe psychological and emotional trauma that only decays as the story proceeds. If you're looking for a witty meta story with a cool power-fantasy MC, this isn't it.)Also on Wordpress at zerovisible.wordpress.com

Gray's Crucible
“The value you have brought to trade is immense, more than a thousand fold what any other traveler to Crucible has ever produced. More than even I produced during my journey.” The old man paused for a moment here, seemingly reluctant to continue. After a few seconds he begins again with weariness creeping into his voice. “As the Messenger of Crucible I have received the value of your life. You shall be awarded a body with potential equaling the value you have brought to this place in accordance with the laws of the higher realms. Now you shall depart for Crucible, but first; I, Jaze, will give you some advice.” The old man, Jaze, he had named himself paused a time. Time enough that Gray began to wonder if he was still present, when he suddenly continued in a low and serious tone, “You will undoubtedly have great potential Gray of Earth, but it is still only potential. What could be is not necessarily what will be. If you step foolishly in my world, if you can not live up to the potential you have bartered for, Crucible will crush you mercilessly and tear away your very soul.” A thought, cheerful and light was heard from Gray before his presence was sent rocketing away like a shooting star. “I’m looking forward to it.”
