《Refining the Heavens》B4, Chapter 60: The Emperor Trap (Part 2)

The four of them continued to gather the Heavenly Energies around and formed their Secret Arts at Reynold.
No matter how fast the White Emperor attacked, he couldn’t strike anyone as they maintained the Bagua Shield combat formation. After he rushed forward and missed, Reynold quickly reversed and struck behind himself.
With the speed and reaction of a Paramount Cultivator, he did not believe that these boys could respond in time, yet the person following behind him reversed at the exact same pace he did.
It was unthinkable and mystifying, but the moment is lost.
The four of them had finished their Secret Art and unleashed their attacks at the same time on him.
A single punch ripped apart the air with an explosion, and from within a snowstorm with thunderous clouds filled the ceiling above the training hall.
The winds became swift and came swirling together, into it turned into a hurricane with lightning and hail.
Reynold’s figure quickly diminished from sight at the eye of the typhoon.
Countless spheres made of pure light floated towards the storm accompanied by patches of black void. When the light and darkness met, reality seemed to be torn apart. Cracks appeared, revealing a black starry universe, before mending again.
Fighting the two powerful Secret Arts under the many layers of seal took almost everything that the White Emperor had to protect himself.
He allowed the fearsome wind, pounding hail, and rumbling lightning to ravage his body to stop Jim’s Secret Art from approaching. Reynold could tell that if the reality around him is torn, even as a Paramount Cultivator he will die or be severely wounded.
With almost all of his strength suppressed and the rest used to blow back the strange concoction of Attributeless, Void, Light, and Darkness Elements, the White Emperor had hardly any power left to shield himself from the pelting hurricane.
His Ki Barrier flickered with each lightning strike, but somehow persisted.
A single arrow flew over causing his eyes with widen with alarm. The arrow had the strength of all five elements of creation and three elements of nature infused into it and cannot be underestimated.
But right now he couldn’t move a step and had his hands full.
At the last moment, he withdrew all his powers and guarded his heart. The arrow flew right into his chest but he could only stare.
It shattered his Ki Barrier and caused him to spit out a mouthful of blood. Unfortunately, the strength of a Mid SSS cultivator’s Secret Art wasn’t enough to pierce through his body.
Without the White Emperor’s powers holding back the storm and broken space, his body is quickly blood-stained.
There’s no time to reform his Ki Barrier. Reynold immediately gathered all the strength he could muster and shoved it towards the impending broken space.

Jim’s Secret Art is incredibly powerful, but it travels slowly. Still, it is an attack that made a Paramount Cultivator unwilling to leave alone.
At this time, Kairos’ figure flickered into being right above Reynold’s head.
The White Emperor could feel himself paralysed like he had been stared by a dragon and turned immobile with fear. Yet, it wasn’t that he was frightened.
He didn’t have time to think before the attack came.
With Swallow in hand, Kairos slashed downwards like a crescent moon in the sky.
Blood spilled out from his forehead and it interrupted his powers.
The patches of black void and spheres of white light clashed in front of him and reality was torn once again.
A terrible cry escaped his throat, it was his death throes but the cruel torn space sucked him in and left not a whisper to be heard.
The four stood there quietly as the supreme commander of the Ku Kang camp disappeared from sight, but none of them felt relieved.
There was something strange about all these.
“WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING!” Lee Hei shouted.
It is apparent he had been shouting for a while, yet curious that they only heard him now.
Their attention seemed to refocus, and then they realised that the White Emperor is standing there right before them with a smile on his face.
All at once, the four boys suddenly fell backwards. A palm print on each of their chests.
Before they knew, they had been struck.
The four of them coughed up blood together as they tried to lift themselves up from the ground. Only after a cycle of Ki rotation through their meridian system, they managed to curb their internal wounds temporarily.
A strike from a Paramount Cultivator is nothing to laugh at, furthermore the White Emperor is someone who had reached Five Paramount Units.
Syriong was only between two to three Paramount Units.
To be alive after receiving a hit is already a testimony of how strong is the Origin Cultivation Method that the four of them practices.
Even Reynold looked surprise that they are not dead.
“Illusion? No… that’s impossible. We should have sealed up your powers…,” Jim choked as blood poured out of his clenched teeth.
The Snowdrifts had studied about the White Emperor long before this fight.
Formerly an assassin of the Assassin Confederacy. After a blotched job, he left the organisation and entered the northern realms in pursue of furthering his cultivation. The assassins hunted him for a decade, only to have half of their top ten assassins killed and instead caused his fame to soar.
At that time, the north isn’t embroiled in war, and the new Great Khan Yesugei-in Temujin was in need of capable subordinates. After finding out about the man who is Reynold Lambert Siegmund, the Great Khan welcomed him as part of the new family and granted him the rights privy to those of the five tribes.

With Reynold’s martial strength he quickly went up the military ranks and with his fame more and more barbarians followed after him.
After this, the Assassin Confederacy finally stopped sending men after him, although on and off when there is a hit job to take the White Emperor’s head appears there will still be some foolhardy hitman that will make an attempt.
They had researched his every battle, measured his strength, and learned of all the martial skills he used.
The White Emperor is born with the Ice Cicada Constitute that is gifted in both Frost and Water Elements affinities. One of his most powerful combat technique is summoning battle illusions created by Water Elements to confuse and kill opponents. It is an exceedingly complicated technique that requires fine control over water to create mirages that could trick the opponents.
There are varying strength amongst Hallucinatory techniques. The Shadow Clone technique that the master thieves are adept with are merely at the lowest class that only play with lights.
It is said that if someone could control all five senses and the time element, he will be able to trap his enemies indefinitely. The illusion skill of the White Emperor confuses three out of five senses, sight, sound, and smell. Of all the water elemental cultivators in Saint Empire, less than ten have strong enough affinity to master such a skill.
Against such a deadly foe, the boys had to conjure up an immaculate plan, yet it is now obvious that they had failed. The most frightening thing is that they couldn’t figure out when they had fallen into the illusions.
“I’ll hold him back while you guys recover,” Tommy shouted and rushed forth alone.
He has the highest cultivation and the second strongest physique of the four, the damage he suffered is also the least.
His figure turned into a line like an arrow that shot towards the White Emperor.
Reynold was also surprised at the boy’s speed that isn’t because of a combat formation but truly Tommy’s own.
“Lightning Flicker Body.”
The boys know that this speed is mostly contributed to the movement technique that they inherited from Enki, a fallen god they met in the Death Maw forest before. Although the skill manual had been placed into Kairos’ mind, it had been shared with the rest almost immediately and after a few years of practising everyone had stepped into the initial mastery stage. Despite not able to improve their understanding to the next level – basic mastery – it is already displaying impressive prowess.
With a skill of divine-class, everyone is confident that at the very least Tommy wouldn’t be killed immediately.
Rushing forward he rained punches upon the White Emperor, but the latter easily avoided everything while counterattacking.
The White Emperor had felt instinctively that he must not block but avoid the attack though he doesn’t know why. Spending centuries in bloodshed, the Paramount Cultivator did not doubt this strange feeling.
Only the boys could tell that each punch, although generic like a textbook-move, held immense destructiveness.
“Astral Cataclysm.”
This is one of the External Martial Art that Aisa had imparted Kairos during his fight against the devil-possessed Syriong.
Tommy, of course, also learnt it, but his mastery after studying it for the four years he barely reached initial mastery and even worse than his proficiency with the Lightning Flicker Body.
However, if the White Emperor had received a blow, even though it wouldn’t be that dangerous, it is enough to rip apart chunks of Ki Barrier and severely drain his strength.
Reynold did not treat Tommy’s attack lightly and he counter with fearsome force. Tommy had to use a concentrated dose of Soul Perception to pre-empt his enemy’s movement and execute Lightning Flicker Body to his limits to avoid dying.
The White Emperor’s counters merely grazed him but each blow made Tommy feel as though he is being torn apart.
The difference between them isn’t just a step or two, but whole leagues apart.
Not only power and speed, even Tommy’s combat experience is totally below Reynold’s.
Even if the two had fought with the same strength, the White Emperor can still toy around with him. It is only because of Tommy’s Dharma Constitution and Earth Titan physical rank that he managed to avoid being taken out instantly.
Five minutes and a hundred Ki rotations later, Kairos had recovered enough. His physical rank is the highest at Heaven Titan and thus had been able to withstand incredible damages. He jumped out from where he was to rush into battle beside his brother.
By now, the young warrior had wounds from head to toe, three broken ribs – all on the right side, and a fractured femur bone, yet his fighting spirit is at an all-time-high.
If Kairos had been any later, he might’ve been defeated but he is now in the best condition for the Dharma Constitution.
He flashed a smile at Kairos, and the two charged forward together. Even their pacing was of the exact speed and distance.

Many Minded
Synopsis: Issa Pyxis, Spacer orphan and illegal heretic, graduated from living on the streets to running with a gang years ago, but now it looks like that’s all going to change. Her inheritance, more specifically who—or what—she is, is catching up with her, and on a planet with the Emperor’s inquisitors slinking around in every shadow, nowhere is safe and no one can be trusted. What will she do? A cyberpunk story about identity, loneliness, covert infiltration, evil dystopias, and much more! Features: - Cyborgs and cyberpunk galore - This is indented to be somewhat “rational” and “hard” Sci-Fi story - Original Fiction however parts of my worldbuilding are inspired by other Sci-Fi stories (duh) Rationale: The future is cool, AIs are kickass, and questions about consciousness are simultaneously existential and yet unanswered. To me, this story is a vehicle for exploring these topics, and also, I wanted to write a story where the protagonist was unafraid of themselves and where their self is more like a git-repo than a meat computer. Disclaimer: This story primarily takes place in what we’d describe as a “cyberpunk dystopia” with some extra technocracy, autocracy, and religious fervor thrown into the mix, so there will be some “grittiness” in this story. Caveat emptor. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character and other characters in my story can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way they view the world isn’t always objective truth (if such a thing even exists) nor do their views and opinions necessarily reflect the views of me, the author. Its been ten years since Seth was given his powers, ten years since his town was driven mad by that very same power, and ten years since its source was shunted into his head. Regret for the deaths that town perpetuated, the devastation they brought, the blow they served to the once proud heroes of this world. Heroes Seth now hopes to join, hopes to heal and atone to for what transpired. But their wounds run deep, their ire sharp, and their acceptance thin. And to top it all off... Seth's power is run far deeper than he knows, and sees his world in a light all its own. This series is my first foray into authoring, with two parts out of at best four if the readership stands. But part three will still book end nicely otherwise. And I'm not stopping till then. It is action heavy with varied and ramping up fight scenes through out. (Book 1 is heavy / Book 2 a little lighter) It is bloody in places, mildly gory in others, and heavily gory in simulated places. Nothing truly horrifying, I think, but be warned. It has trauma. PTSD is a major part of the story, but I will never trust that I got it completely right, so your mileage may vary on how believable or impactful it is. Lastly it has language. Swearing ebbs and flows as the story progresses and attitudes harden or soften. Sometimes bleeding through into the narration... somehow.
