《Azure Chronicles》Chapter 74: Swift Defeat

"And for the second match of the plenary rounds, we have the S-rank adventurer Trikore and the A-rank adventurer Fraxinus!" Kikou announced over the speaker as Trikore and Fraxinus(the fire elf mage) walked onto the arena stage while the audience cheered in excitement. Fraxinus formed a long spear made of flame mana while a circular neon blue energy arm shield formed from Trikore's gauntlet.''
"My I didn't expect to be fighting you so soon in the tournament, Tri," Fraxinus remarked as he rested his fire mana spear on his shoulder.
"Well, some of us are just unluckier than others," Trikore mentioned as he got into a combative stance, which made Fraxinus glare at him.
"Don't get cocky just because you're a higher rank than me," Fraxinus snarked as he also got into a combative stance. The adventurers waited in anticipation for one of Kiki or Kikou to start the match.
"On your marks get set... go!" Kiki playfully yelled as Kikou commented Kiki said the wrong thing, which she dismissively waved at.
Fraxinus flame charged(when someone encases their body in flames to boost their speed) across the whole arena in a split second and hurled a flurry of spear thrusts at Trikore. Trikore easily blocked all the spear thrusts with his neon shield whilst moving from his spot. On Fraxinus' last spear attack Trikore deflected the tip of the spear upwards before blasting Fraxinus across the arena with a wind blast with his free hand.
Fraxinus backflipped and landed on the ground. He raised his free hand and conjured a volley of flame spears before firing all of them simultaneously. Trikore tossed his shield to the side as he gathered water mana around his hands. Trikore condensed the water mana into discs before flicking the discs at the flame spears and slicing them in half.

"I didn't know type advantage was a thing outside of video games," Lola commented as she intently watched the water disc race after Fraxinus whilst Trikore placed his foot on his shield.
"It's not got anything to do with type advantages it's because of the density of the mana," Heather stated whilst straightening her glasses. Lola nodded her head before she continued to watch the fight.
Fraxinus frantically evaded the swarm of water discs while slicing them with his fire mana spear. The water disc gathered together and formed into a giant shuriken; the shuriken rocketed into the ground and created a massive tidal wave forcing Fraxinus to jump into the air to evade it.
"That was close," Fraxinus commented before Trikore's shield slid under his foot as Fraxinus landed on the ground. Fraxinus tripped on the shield and plummeted off the side of the arena.
Fraxinus attempted to plunge his mana spear into the side of the arena but was confused when the tip of his spear shattered on impact. Fraxinus confusedly looked at the tip of his spear before he landed on the large marshmallow-looking cushion around the base of the arena.
"And... the victor of the second match by ring out is Trikore... geez that was fast...," Kiki commented whilst Fraxinus sat up from the safety pillow.
"Ok... I kind of had that coming but how did I forget the stage was reinforced," Fraxinus remarked jokingly.
"You know acting like one of those hotshots from those monguious doesn't suit you, Fraxinus," Trikore stated as he walked down the arena stairs.
"First of all it's manga and second of all the SGM personally stated she wanted one of us to do that, and do you think you or Helios could have done any better?" Fraxinus asked as he stood up and jumped onto the stairs.

"Point taken," Trikore replied before the two headed back into the coliseum. Kikou sighed with a slightly worried tone before glancing over at Zuno.
"I know it was a safety precaution and all but did you really need to reinforce the arena stage?" Kikou asked as the Hikas were lightly punching Zuno on the side of his head.
"Yeah if you hadn't done that then the fight would have lasted longer!" Yellow Hika yelled. The Hikas continued to bop Zuno in the head. Lola disappointedly sighed and layed back on her tails.
"Mr Shiney Bird when are sister Sophia and Ruby going to fight each other?" Lola asked as Zallino flew over her and landed in front of Lola.
"Your mother informed me that it will be the third match of the quarterfinals and that you and the others can go to the food stalls as long as Mimi goes with you," Zallino stated before flying away while Mimi slithered onto Lola's tails.
"Alright, let's go get those dangos," Mimi said while three of her small hydra heads carried a single silver Valt coins in their mouths. Lola quickly sat up and all the kids hopped on her tails before they raced out of the booth. Zuno sighed as the Hikas instantly bowed in the air and apologised for punching him while also pleading for some money. Zuno rolled his eyes as he pulled an iron and six copper Valt coins from his storage pocket bubble.
"Make sure you assist the hydra familiar in protecting the kids," Zuno instructed as he handed the Hikas the Valt coins. The Hikas adamantly nodded their heads before a small paper aeroplane-shaped light mana construct formed in front of the Hikas. The Hikas quickly sat on the mana construct before it flew off after Lola, as Kikou announced the next pair of fighters.
In the waiting room, two people left the room causing Ruby to let out an annoyed sigh whilst she agitatedly tapped her shoulders. She let out a low sigh as she stared at the monitor.
"Man, I can't believe that guy lost so quickly," Ruby quietly whined as she leaned against Sophia's arm. Sophia looked over at Ruby whilst Ruby was stroking Kai's head.
"But didn't you bet Helios was going to win?" Sophia asked making Ruby lean even harder against Sophia's arm.
"I know but there's no sense of achievement if there's no effort involved," Ruby murmured as she closed her eyes.
"Could you wake me up when it's my turn?" Ruby requested before instantly falling asleep. Sophia playfully rolled her eyes as Kai crawled over to Sophia's lap and sat down.

Pawns of God
Five Lines PitchJoin Mark in his fight against a God and change the game's destiny! Delve into a slow-paced story focused on the progression of the main party and the development of the world. Mark himself will be narrating his life inside the game, and to a much lesser extend outside. Guild building, economy, and strategy are the central pieces of the novel. Mark is not overpowered, he will have to build his own power through action-packed battles, trials, traumas, love, and death. Accompany him, the healer and the strategist, an agent of chaos, in the adventure of his life. Without further preamble, I will let Mark take the mic. SynopsisHi! My name is Mark. This is my story, my life as I live it day after day. I’m in my thirties, and there’s nothing I love more than playing online games. I’ve just joined the action on the newest VRMMO game, Pawns of God. An immersive experience you can play while sleeping. Of course, as a game that takes pride in its long development and technological advances, everything inside seems and feels real. Beware, this is not a game-turns-real story. I love my own world and I would detest being summoned into another one. If that ever happens, I’ll just quickly take my life and be done with it. I play with my friends, in a party of 5. We have taken several roles, but lately, I've come to love being a healer. It's my secret ambition to someday be the shotcaller. I am not overpowered. If there is any bug or exploit in the game, they are yet to be discovered. Anyhow, for a game of this scale, the company is pouring all of its resources into test servers, QA, and beta tests. I don’t expect to find any, so I’ll be playing the game just like any other person. I must say, though, I am easily distracted, as you will immediately notice once you start. I'm working on it, I promise to improve! I am no hero. Being in my 30s, my heart is too old for this shit. I wouldn’t mind being one, of course. Who hasn’t dreamt of it? Either way, I’m not doing any grand quest to save the world. Whatever the game throws to their users, I’ll be there to experience it. Most of my life, at least the interesting parts that I’ll be narrating, happen inside the game itself. Rarely, there will be some IRL (In Real Life) chapters. You’ll understand, however, that as a freelance software developer, there is not much I can entertain you with when outside the game. Did I say I love games? Well, I’m also a fan of LitRPG literature. You know, journeys of magic, relationships, personal development, items, skills, discovery… In the spirit of not overwhelming my public, I’ll condense each chapter into circa 1500 words. You might have noticed some tags over this story, let me elaborate. I like to swear. I’m not shy when it comes to cursing my enemies, friends, or even myself. When there’s blood, I tell it as I see it. And… it hurts to admit it, but I’m not a casanova. Of course, this doesn’t mean that I won’t ever find love. So, in case I do end up finding it, let’s keep my sexual options open. As for traumas, none yet, but the future is vast and unknown. Release Schedule The schedule is subject to change, particularly if enough readers end up loving it. All chapters are already written, thus there is enough freedom to modify them. Arc 1 * Chapters 1-14: Each released one day and an hour later than the previous. Starting with chapter 2 at 09:20 UTC+2 on day 1, and finishing at 21:20 UTC+2 on day 13.
