《Before I Forget - Eli Moskowitz -》No Secrets

As Sam started the car and began to drive, Sky let out a sigh and took a comfortable position in her seat, dropping her backpack to the floor between her feet.
It had been one long day, and she was exhausted. The sexcapade in the closet had been amazing, but also draining and Sky didn't want anything as much as she wanted a shower and a nap. But no such luck. First, she needed to do homework, and then she had promised to go to Demetri's - to help finish the science project. The due date was tomorrow, and Demetri wanted to use all the time they had, to make the thing as perfect as possible.
And perfect it was. All the 8000+ individual Lego pieces had found their places. The volcano released smoke, the dinosaurs roared and every single detail was flawless. Sky had had an insane amount of fun building the thing with Demetri - and Yasmine, who had against all odds, joined a couple of nights. Though Yasmine's contribution had barely been more than just to glare at them down her pretty nose, her mere presence had made Demetri so happy that it had been worth it.
Sky had enjoyed working on the project, but she couldn't deny that she was also relieved that it was almost over now. It had taken an insane amount of time - time she could now spend with her boyfriend.
Her secret boyfriend.
Sky glanced at Sam by her side and felt a pang of guilt in her heart.
"Thanks for giving me a ride. Dad's busy today and couldn't come to pick me up," she said to make conversation. Sam seemed uncharacteristically quiet today, which made Sky somewhat worried.
Sam glanced at her, keeping her hands steady on the steering wheel. "So, you're still not allowed to drive?"
"No," Sky sighed. "Not until the cast comes off. And it's still a couple of weeks 'till that."
"Well, I don't mind driving you home," Sam replied with a small smile. "You know I'm happy to help."
"That's because you're an awesome friend."
"I don't know about that." Sam frowned. "But now that we're not with Moon and Yasmine, do you want to tell me what really happened at lunch break? Cause I can tell you were lying."
Her words hit Sky like a wrecking ball, even if she had been expecting something like this. She was nowhere remotely near to be having this conversation, and her first instinct was to leave - but they were in a moving car, and it wasn't like she could just hop off. Well, she could, technically, but she really didn't want any more broken limbs.
She glanced at Sam, who was still driving the car, her eyes on the road. Damn that girl - she had probably offered to give her a ride just to ambush her with this question in a place where she couldn't get away.
Sky made a face. "I... I'd rather not talk about it."
"Why not?"
"It's just that..."
"You can tell me," Sam said sternly. "Whatever it is, you can tell me."
"You're not gonna like it." Sky grimaced. An understatement of the year. She knew Sam would lose her shit when she found out about her and Hawk.

"Are you back together with Hawk?" Sam asked, and Sky's jaw dropped. For once in her life she was utterly at loss for words.
"How... how did you know?"
Sam glanced at her briefly and pulled a strand of her brown hair behind her ear. "Well I knew you had someone. You're not very good at covering the hickeys, you know. And since you were being so secretive about it, I figured it must be someone I don't approve of." A short silence. "So? Is that it? You're back together with Hawk and you were making out with him somewhere during lunch break?"
Making out with him. It sure sounded better than fucking in the janitor's closet. Sky could go with that, it wasn't even a lie because there sure as Hell had been a lot of making out before the fucking.
"Okay, yeah." She admitted, her cheeks heating. "Guilty as charged."
"Sky, come on!" Sam's voice was suddenly sharp. "Why? Why would you take him back? After everything he did to you—?"
"And this is exactly why I didn't tell you," Sky muttered, turning to look out of the window, even if there was nothing of interest to be seen. "I knew you'd freak out."
"Well yes, but with good reason! This is Hawk we're talking about! He attacked me at the mall, he destroyed the dojo, he stole Mr. Miyagi's medal of honor and he lied to you about all that. Sky, he's done some shitty things."
Sky shrugged. Everything Sam said was true, there was no denying it. But it was also all in the past. Hawk had apologized. He was really sorry. And Sky had worked hard to forgive and to forget, to move on instead of staying in that dark, dark place she had fallen after finding out about Hawk's lies.
"I don't know what to say," she replied after a short silence. "I'm in love with him, and I can't help it."
"Oh Sky," Sam sighed, shaking her head so that her dark curls danced around her face. "I just don't want you to get hurt again."
"I'm not gonna get hurt. He loves me. He would never hurt me."
Sky had never seen someone look more skeptical than Sam at that moment. Her fingers gripped the steering wheel harder and her blue eyes turned dark and serious.
"Sky—" she started, but Sky interrupted him.
"Just don't, Sam. I know you don't like him and I understand. But... but you don't know him like I do. He has changed—"
"He hasn't! Can't you see? Haven't you seen how he acts in school? How he and his friends intimidate and bully others—"
"He's nothing like that with me—" Sky tried, but it felt like poor reasoning. She had seen Hawk with his friends, being cocky and arrogant and laughing at others, and she didn't like it. But she had told herself that it didn't matter, that it was just a role, that it wasn't really him and what was real was the way he was with her. And with her, he was always loving and gentle and caring. Always.
They had lived like the world outside their little bubble didn't exist, like nothing that happened outside their sphere of love was important. And Sky hated that Sam was reminding her about the things she didn't want to think about, didn't want to remember. She wanted to keep her fairytale lovestory intact, separated from this stupid, ugly reality where things always ended badly.

"Look, I don't wanna argue," Sam said with a softer tone, maybe noticing Sky's sinking mood. They had stopped at red lights, and she turned to look at Sky, reached a hand to squeeze her fingers. "I mean, my decisions about guys haven't always been the best, so I get it. But I'm your friend, and I'm worried about you. I just really don't want to see you get hurt again."
There was such sincerity in Sam's voice that it made something swell in Sky's chest. She had expected Sam to get angry, to start shouting, to tell her that she didn't want to be friends anymore if Sky kept dating Hawk. She hadn't expected this - understanding and kindness. A part of her still struggled to believe that she deserved such things.
"You don't have to worry," she replied, managing a small smile. "I promise. I trust Hawk with all my heart and I know he's not going to let me down. He loves me."
Sam let out a sigh and pulled her hand from Sky's as the lights turned green and she continued driving.
"If you say so," she stated but didn't look convinced. "But Sky, no more secrets, okay?"
"Okay," Sky said. "No more secrets."

Hawk had just stepped out of the school and was walking towards the parking lot dangling the keys of his bike in his fingers, when he heard footsteps approaching and someone appeared on his side.
Hawk frowned and let out an annoyed scoff.
"What the fuck do you want?"
"Real classy, Eli," Demetri stated, slightly out of breath as if he'd had to run to catch up with him. "Though I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you prove yourself a jerk time after time."
"The fuck are you talking about?"
Fucking Demetri! Just the sight of him was enough to make Hawk want to smash things - preferably his face to make him shut up.
"Oh, so you're gonna make me say it? I heard you in the bathroom, Eli. Talking about Sky, were you? Good tits, great ass, fucked her real good—?" Demetri shook his head with a disgusted look on his face. "Just wondering what Sky would think if she knew."
A cold fear gripped Hawk's chest when Demetri's words sunk in, and he froze on his feet. Oh, he had a pretty good idea what Sky would think too - and none of that was good. But Sky wasn't supposed to find out, and fucking Hell, Hawk would shut Demetri up, any means necessary, before letting him talk.
"Yeah? Well, I'm wondering what your Mom's gonna think when you come home with your nose smashed in."
"This again?" Demetri rolled his eyes. "I'm not scared of you, you know. It was you who ended up in that trophy case—"
Anger, bright and red as fire flashed through Hawk's mind and he pushed Demetri so that he barely stayed on his feet.
"You got one lucky kick. That's all—"
"You can push me all you want," Demetri replied, regaining his cool. "I welcome it. At least that way Sky's gonna see your true colors sooner than later."
That made Hawk draw in a sharp breath, his nostrils flared and his fists clenched on his sides. Every instinct he had told him to kick Demetri's ass, to make him hurt and bleed, but—
Sky.
He let out a slow breath, unclenching his fists. For reasons he couldn't understand, Sky valued her friendship with that fucking nerd - and if he beat Demetri up, Sky would be upset. She would cry. Hell, she might even break up with him.
He couldn't take that risk.
But he couldn't let Demetri tell her the things that he had said in the bathroom, either. Sky wouldn't understand, she wouldn't get that guys talked shit like that all the fucking time.
"You tell Sky about any of this, and you're dead," he spat the words on Demetri's face. "You got it? I'll fucking kill you if you talk."
"So, lying to your girlfriend again? Real healthy, Eli."
"Stop calling me that," Hawk snarled taking a step closer. The urge to push Demetri again was really hard to resist, and he grabbed the front of Demetri's shirt with both fists. "You know, you think you're so tough now that you learned some basic moves at Miyagi-Do, but the truth is that you're nothing. You've always been nothing. And sooner or later you're gonna pay for what you did, you fucking traitor."
"Yeah, yeah, I've heard all that before," Demetri replied and glanced at Hawk's fists that were gripping his shirt with a white-knuckle grip. "So, are you gonna let me go? Or are you gonna start a fight? Just saying that Sky might be looking."
Hawk drew in a sharp breath and swallowed hard, trying to repel the bitter taste that lingered on his lips. "There's gonna be a day when you can't hide behind her back, you know."
"Oh, I'm counting on it. Might be the same day she finds the truth about you."
"Get the fuck away from here," Hawk grunted, giving Demetri a final shove, making him almost fall. "You fucking nerd."
"With pleasure," Demetri rolled his eyes and picked up his backpack that had fallen on the ground. "You're not exactly a joy to be around."
With that Demetri started walking away, leaving Hawk glaring daggers at the back of his head.
The high Hawk had felt after the incredible sexcapade in the closet, the feeling of being on top of the world had now vanished completely. Hawk was choking in anger, it almost blinded his vision. But underneath the rage, there was something else - a swamp of horror and disgust. He felt like he was standing on top of waves, unstable on his feet, and he could fall into the depths of this dirty ocean at any given moment.
The way he had talked about Sky—
It had been just harmless joking, just stupid guy talk. It didn't mean anything! But now, that Demetri had practically threatened to tell Sky—
A fist of agony clenched Hawk's heart, making it almost stop beating.
If Demetri ruined things between him and Sky again—
If Sky broke up with him because of this—?
Hawk clenched his fists, his fingernails dug into the skin of his palms.
He would fucking kill that nerd.
