Labyrinth (noun): a complicated network of winding passages; a maze

His stomach ached from a hunger clawing at his insides. A delectable aroma hung in the air, an invisible thread linking his nose to a promise of food and satisfaction.

All he had to do was find it.

He scurried forward as soon as the bindings on his legs were released, his small feet quickly covering distance until he came face to face with a wall. Two turns laid before him, one to the left and the other to the right, each giving away to an identical path.

Pausing to taste the air, he followed the thread of the delicious scent to the right.

For the next few minutes, he repeated the process feverishly, running into walls and corners, sniffing around with his nose a few times, and finally choosing the correct path that would lead him to salvation for his endless hunger. With each step, the milky scent of cheese grew stronger and enchanting on his nostrils.

With one final turn, he spotted it. The golden block of dairy that he’d been meticulously tracking from the moment he stepped in the maze.

His mad dash to the cheese was beyond imaginable speed. Closing in on his hard-earned reward, he tore away at the soft protein, the wonderfully squishy texture sliding smoothly down his throat.

The mouse nibbled and chewed and gnawed on the cheese, fully unaware of the large figures in lab coats scribbling notes on their clipboards.
