《Call Of Death》Chapter 32 : The Forgotten Door

Days had passed and all they did was investigate and investigate more about the case and gather more information they could get about the culprit. Detective Lee and Officer Chad were out the headquarters all day long and their only rest was when they're at the apartment to take a bath or have a little nap. They were also busy finding out about the guy named Red. Because after talking to Detective Lee that day, he never called again. They tried tracking the number he used but it was untraceable, just like the culprit's phone number. One evening, while both men are walking up to their apartment, Officer Chad saw a very familiar looking lady standing not so far away from their distance.
"Senior, do you see that old lady?" He told Detective Lee without taking his eyes off of the person.
"Huh? What lady? Where?" Detective Lee asked looking around.
Officer Chad pointed at her direction with his lips. "There."
"Isn't she the one who pointed us to the second witness before? She's that lady, right?" Cameron questioned upon remembering that it was the same person whom they met before as the first witness who could possibly tell the whereabouts of the culprit.
"Yes, she's that old lady and she's been following us since this morning. I saw her everywhere we went." Devius added.
"Hmm. I thought it was just a coincidence but if you noticed that too, that means she's really following us." Cameron stated.
Detective Lee also noticed earlier that she was everywhere but she doesn't look suspicious at all that's why he ignored it. But seeing her here again for God knows how many times, it was far more than a coincidence especially because Officer Chad noticed her presence too. She must be following them. Both men looked at each other and marched towards the lady. She didn't move and just stayed standing at her place, it's like she's waiting, as the two men approached her. As they got nearer, the dirt on the lady's hands are visible now. Detective Lee and Officer Chad felt a little worried about the woman's safety.
"Granny, do you need something? Do you need help? Are you alright?" Officer Chad asked in concern.
Instead of answering him, the old lady lifted her head and face towards Detective Lee. She gave him a sad smile as she took a step forward. Cameron felt a bit confused but still didn't move. He just looked at the old lady with his usual expressionless face.
"Granny, are you alright? You've been following us since this morning." Detective Lee asked, wrinkling his forehead.

"Young man, can I asked you a question?" The old lady asked in a weak voice, she sounded sick.
Detective Lee grew more concerned because the lady look pale. "Granny, are you ill?"
"Son, I have to ask you something." She insisted.
"You can asked me anything later but first, we have to take you to the hospital. You don't seem fine." Cameron held her in both shoulders.
The old lady smiled and shook her head. "I'll be fine but I really have to ask you this question, young man. It can't wait." She eagerly said.
Cameron and Devius looked at each other. They are both concerned about the lady's well-being but they are sure she won't bulge even if they insist on taking her to the hospital. They are also curious about what she has to say because she's been following them since this morning.
"Then, what do you want to asked, granny?" Detective Lee mumbled.
"Have you found the key?" She asked, making both men confused.
"What key, granny?" Officer Chad asked the old lady but she didn't answer him.
"Young man, have you found the key?" She asked again.
Detective Lee rummage on his pocket and took the car keys out. "I have the car keys. Chad also has the key to our apartment." He said.
"Not those keys, son." The old lady smiled.
Cameron stared at the old lady. He didn't know why but this scene is very familiar to him. He felt like it happened before. It's like dé javu. He just can't recall, when but he's sure that this scene already happened before.
"What key are you talking about, granny?" Detective Lee asked.
The old lady smiled. "The key to your past. The key that will open the forgotten door, young man." She meaningfully said.
"Huh? I don't understand." Cameron stated.
"That guy, he already gave you a piece of that key. The key that will help you unlock the forgotten door of your past." She added.
Cameron Lee stared at her confusedly. He doesn't know why he thinks that he'd heard those words before but he just can't remember. He tried recalling it but his head only hurt. Officer Chad looked at Detective Lee who has confusion all over his face. He doesn't understand what the old lady is telling his partner but he us sure that it doesn't do any good for Cameron because of the expression in face.
"Granny," Devius tried to talk to the old lady but her eyes are fixed at Detective Lee only.
"Key to the forgotten door of my past? What do you mean?" Detective asked in utter confusion.

She smiled and turned to Officer Chad for the first time. "Officer, can you leave us for a while, please?"
"Huh? Oh, okay." Despite being confused too, Devius chose to hesitantly stay a bit further from them.
When he was far enough, Officer Chad saw the old lady took one step forward to Detective Lee with a smile as she pat his shoulder. On the other hand, Cameron, for some unknown reason, felt this scene really familiar. He thinks it happened before. This old lady seemed way too familiar even when he first saw her this morning. The old lady leaned forward to him.
"You will find out the mystery behind the killings once you opened that forgotten door, young man." Whispered the lady.
"What do you mean?"
"Son, everything happens for a reason. All the mystery you are trying to uncover will be freed once you remember who you really are and what you really did. I only advice you to be ready because the forgotten door will not only help you but it will also hurt you." After she said that, she turned and walked passed Cameron.
Detective Lee was left dumfounded. He felt nervous and scared for the first time in a very long time. He swallowed hard, feeling his palms getting sweaty. He tried to move but he couldn't. While Officer Devius Wayne Chad was too confused looking at his partner who was not in motion. It took him a few seconds before walking to Detective Lee.
"Senior, are you okay?" Officer Chad's voice snapped Cameron back in reality.
"That old lady..." He took a deep breath to calm himself down. "...she knows something about the culprit or maybe more. She know something more than I do." He continued.
"What do you mean?" Devius asked, confused.
"Chad, that old lady told me that if I open the forgotten door, I'll find out the mystery behind the killings. She said if I will only be able to solve the mystery once I remember who I really am and what I really did." He mustered.
"What? What does that mean?" Devius scratched the back of his head in confusion.
Cameron shook his head. "I don't know but I have this feeling that I don't recognize. Maybe there's something about my past that I needed to recall that will help me in this case."
"Your past?"
"Yeah."
"That lady knows something about your past? Why? What's your past?" Devius asked, wrinkling his forehead.
Cameron was silent for a while. He forgot that he has never told anyone about his past other than his adopted father. He wasn't ready to tell anyone, he was even never ready to accept it. Detective Lee saw that Devius is getting curious so he thought of something to divert his attention and make him forget about talking about his past.
"We have to find that old lady, Chad. She might help us in finding the culprit." Cameron said.
Officer Chad took a second before processing what he heard. When he finally realized it, he quickly started looking for the old lady but she was nowhere to be found anymore. They tried to find her in separate ways but they couldn't see any traces of her. Detective Lee can't stop thinking about what the old lady said. He doesn't know how but he must find what the forgotten door was and it's key. But what bothered him the most is the feeling that he finds the old lady too mysterious yet too familiar.
'Who I really am and what I really did? What does she mean by those? Does she know my real identity? Does she know who I really am?' Cameron couldn't stop thinking.
All his life, he wanted to know who he is before he was abducted. He wanted to know who his real parents are even if Mr. Lee, his adopted father is the person whom he treated as his only family. Hearing about that lady's words made him even more confused and curious about his real identity. He wanted to know what that forgotten door is.
"Senior, I couldn't find her. She must have hidden somewhere." Officer Chad said, panting.
Cameron sighed. "Let's just look for her some other time, we have to rest and work again tomorrow." He advised so they both went back to their apartment.
Detective Lee and Officer Chad both did what they usually do. After taking a bath and eating dinner, they both went to bed. But after tossing around in his bed, Cameron still couldn't get enough of what happened earlier. He can't get the thoughts out of his head. The old lady and everything about the forgotten door and his identity she's saying. He has no idea what she meant but everything was really familiar to him. And it's making him confused and curious. The familiar feeling that he felt. He knows that happened before. Yet he just couldn't say when it happened but he was sure it happened before. He didn't stop thinking about it until he finally dozed off.
