《Being Human》30. Rose's Scabbard

Y/n was walking through the Gem battlefield, covered in strawberry bushes, with the Gems, Steven and Lion.
"This place is even bigger and more weapon-y than I remember." Steven says as he looks all around.
"This was a site of a historic battle. Every weapon here was left by a Gem over 5,000 years ago. I don't like to disturb it, but Garnet said we can't just leave these lying around." Pearl explains.
Y/n just watches as Garnet picks up a giant battle-axe and hoists it over her shoulder.
"Never know when you might need one of these." Garnet says.
"I need one of those all the time!" Steven says in awe of the axe.
"Why don't you look for one that's more... you?" Pearl tries to suggest.
"Well, I already have the rapier you gave me." Y/n comments as he looks around the battlefield.
"Hmm It's still missing it's protective covering." Pearl hums. "Oh, Perhaps their is a scabbard lost amongst these weapons that could hold it." She now suggests.
Y/n just looks out to the large field of littered weapons. "If you say so Pearl..." He sighs. "Come on Steven, Let's at least try find a good weapon for you."
"Okay!" Steven says cheerfully. "Lion, come help me look." He then calls to Lion but Lion starts to look at a butterfly and walks away after it. "Aw, come on."
"You really need to train that thing better." Pearl comments.
"Oh, we've been making progress, now he looks at me when I say his name!" Steven says and he begins to repeatedly call Lion's name, but Lion ignores him and starts digging in the ground. "Uh, sometimes..."
"It looks like he's found something." Y/n says as the three look at ion's digging and it reveals a pink object in the dirt.
"What's he got now?" Pearl asks.
Lion lifts the object up in his mouth, revealing to be a scabbard.
"I don't think that will fit my sword I'm afraid Lion." Y/n chuckles.
Pearl gasps however as she sees it properly now. "That's the scabbard for Rose's sword!" She says in shock and tries to snatch it from Lion's mouth. "Gimme! Gimme!" She takes hold of the scabbard and waves her hand at Lion. "Shoo, shoo."
"Lion lets go and grunts at Pearl, unamused.
"Mom fought here?" Steven asks now.
"That's right! And I fought alongside her." Pearl says proudly.
"Man, I wish I could've seen it!" Amethyst sighs.
"No, you don't." Garnet says a little annoyed. "Countless Gems were broken here. It was a maelstrom of destruction and death."
"But we won!" Pearl jumps in. "Steven, Your mother led us to glorious victory! The odds were against us, and our hearts were uncertain. But we chose to fight alongside Rose, and here we made our stand against our Homeworld!"
The group warp back home now, with the weapons they have gathered from the battlefield.
"This is great! My room's been needing another pile.
"Amethyst! Help me with this axe." Garnet says.
Both Amethyst and Garnet try to fit the battle-axe through the Temple Gate, conversing and making a commotion in the background.
"It's been ages..." Pearl says as she looks at the scabbard and blushes.
"Turn it clockwise! No, your other clockwise!" Amethyst says in the background.
"Where should I put these?" Y/n asks Amethyst now as he holds up his stack of weapons.

"Eh just dump em in." Amethsyt shrugs.
"Dump them?" Y/n asks.
" I'll sort them later...you know, eventually." Amethyst says and Y/n dumps them into Amethyst room now as he carefully moves around the axe Garnet was trying to pull into the room. Y/n exits the room and joins Steven who was staring up at Pearl.
"W-What is it, Steven?" Pearl asks.
"What was Mom like?" Steven asks her.
"She was courageous, and brilliant..." Pearl says as she looks at the painting of Rose. "And beautiful... Sometimes, you look so much like her."
"Really...? Steven asks but the sound of the commotion Amethyst and Garnet are causing get the threes attention and they look at it briefly for a moment.
"Yeah, lift it backwards!" Amethyst says to Garnet.
"You mean "pull!" Garnet tells her.
"Yeah, "pull," sure." Amethyst says lazily.
Pearl looks at the scabbard again now. "Hey, Steven... Maybe you should hold onto this." Pearl hands Steven the scabbard.
"Woah... Thanks, Pearl. If anything tries to eat me, I'll bop them with this!" Steven swings the scabbard like a sword.
"That's just the scabbard, Steven. It held your mother's sword. Nothing else could fit so perfectly inside. For all this time it's been... incomplete." Pearl says a little sadly.
"Well, let's complete it. Where's the sword?" Steven asks.
Garnet manages to fit the battle-axe through the door now.
"That's it! Yeah, you got it!" Amethyst cries as she runs through the door, and it closes behind her.
"Can you two keep a secret?" Pearl asks.
"A secret?!" Steven cries.
Pearl covers Steven's mouth. "Shh! It's a secret, even to Garnet and Amethyst."
"What is it?" Y/n asks.
"Rose had a place that she kept hidden from all but me, but Steven you have her gem. That place is yours now, and I can show it to you!"
"Uh, okay." Steven says with a smile.
Steven, Y/n and Pearl warp into a canyon, with Steven looking extremely confident.
"Now it's just a three-hour hike that way, followed by a vertical climb at 90 degrees. Think you can handle it?"
Steven's confidence quickly fades away.
"Umm...Can we go back and get some climbing gear? Y/n asks.
Time passes, as Pearl climbs up the mountains with Steven strapped onto her back. Y/n was climbing below the two with the aid of mountain climbing gear.
"I was Rose's sole confidant... for the words she could share with no one else, I was there to listen." Pearl was telling Y/n and Steven.
"Why'd she... keep so many secrets?" Y/n asks as focuses on climbing.
"She had to, Y/n! It's the mark of a great leader, knowing just what to keep hidden from everyone you're trying to protect. Everyone except me!" Pearl chuckles.
The three eventually reach the top and arrive at a huge platform in the middle of a flooded cave.
"Welcome to Rose's Secret Armory!" Pearl declares as she smiles widely.
"Wait... We've been here before." Y/n says as he looks around and he sits down on a nearby rock to catch his breath. "This is where I came up the idea of using a rapier." Y/n elaborates.
Pearls smile quickly fades away. "Wha... ? You must be thinking of someplace else, I'm the only other Crystal Gem that's witnessed the Armory's magnificence before now."
"Nuh-uh, Lion showed us." Steven says remembering now.
"The lion?!" Pearl cries in disbelief.

Steven beckons Pearl and they walk towards the center of the platform.
"Yeah! There's all kinds of great stuff hidden in here.
The platform begins to glow as Steven steps on it, startling Pearl a bit. "I know! That's why I brought you here! Now let me show you how you can access the artillery."
"That's okay! I can do it without you. Wham!" Steven walks up and presses his hand on the hand pedestal. Nothing happens for a brief moment. "Oh, right!" Steven pokes himself in the cheek, and the armory activates. "We got some... axes."
"The Axes of Ages?" Pearl says.
Steven pokes his side. "Oh! We got spikey chain lady and her metal dealies."
"The Heretic's Anguish?!" Pearl cries.
"We got a... "Steven pokes his side again. "O-oh! Three pack of laser light cannons."
"The Quartizine Trio!" Pearl tells him.
Steven pokes his nose. "Boop! And... a whole lot of these armor guys."
Pearl gets frustrated. "The Armor of the Fallen!"
"... What were we looking for?" Steven asks having forgotten now.
"Her sword! Your mother's sword!" Pearl says annoyed and she projects a hologram of the sword. "It's a straight bladed saber that's pink with a red handle. There are vines etched in the guard that connect to a rose-shaped pommel.
"Oh that's the sword Y/n used one time, I know where that is." Steven says now.
Pearl's hologram turns into a exclamation mark as she turns to Steven dumbfounded. "Huh?"
Steven, Y/n and Pearl were back at the beach house as Garnet and Amethyst had joined them. The group were stood in the living room as Lion was sat in front of Steven who approaches him to pull Rose's Sword out of his mane as the Gems watch in suprise.
♫ Dadadadada... Here it is! ♫ Steven sings.
"Rose's sword..." Pearl says in shock. "How did it get in there?" She then asks.
"I don't know." Steven says as he hands the sword to Pearl, and she slots it in the scabbard. "But there's a ton of stuff in there, I keep stuff in him too."
He jumps into Lion's mane and jumps out riding his bike. "Ta-da!"
"But how?" Pearl asks confused as she tries to enter Lion's mane, but he growls at her. "Does Lion have something to do with Rose?"
"Oh... of course! THAT'S why he's pink!" Amethyst cries.
"It's a little obvious." Garnet comments.
"But... Rose didn't have a lion." Pearl says becoming more confused.
Steven puts his helmet and bike back into Lion. "It seems like her stuff in there."
"NO!" Pearl says annoyed now. "Rose didn't have a lion, because if Rose had a lion I would have known about it!"
"Rose kept many things secret, even from us." Garnet tells her.
" But not from me, I was the one she told everything!!" Pearl starts tearing up.
Amethyst gets annoyed with Pearl. "Yo, you're not the ONLY one who misses her!"
"YOU can't understand how I feel, NONE of you had what we had!" Pearl cries as she points at Amethyst.
"Pearl..." Y/n says.
"She probably just wanted to protect you, like everyone else." Steven says trying to keep the peace.
"WHAT DO YOU KNOW?!?! YOU'VE NEVER EVEN MET HER!!!!!" Pearl slams her fist into the wall, which causes the painting of Rose above to fall. Pearl gasps and Garnet quickly catches it. Pearl looks at everyone before she then runs off.
"Fine, go! Go cry about it!" Amethyst cries to her and Pearl warps away, as Garnet hangs the painting back on the wall.
"Where did she go?" Steven asks worried.
"Who cares? I HATE it when she gets like this." Amethyst says angry.
"Garnet?" Steven asks looking at her but Garnet does not reply, and Steven wipes his tear in his eyes. "Is she okay?"
Garnet does not reply again.
Steven get jump when He feels Y/n's hand plant down on his shoulder. "Come on Steven, Let's go find her." Y/n says and Steven nods his head in agreement.
Steven then turns to Lion. "Do you know where she went?"
Lion growls in response.
"...I'm going to assume that means you do." Steven says as he hops on Lion's back. Y/n climbs on behind Steven now and Lion stands up.
"Lion, please help us find Pearl." Y/n says.
Lion opens a portal with his magical roar and jumps in with Y/n and Steven.
Garnet turns around to the empty room now. "Good luck."
It was night as Steven, Y/n and Lion arrive at the Gem Battlefield and spot Pearl standing alone, embracing Rose's sword.
"Pearl?" Steven calls to her.
Pearl quickly runs off. "Leave me alone!" She shouts.
Steve, Y/n and Lion begin chasing after her, catching up to her with Lion's portals. "Wait for us!"
Pearl runs in a different direction and jumps off a cliff onto floating chunks of earth.
"Get that thing away from me!" Pearl shouts back.
"I think Lion's presence is making things worse with Pearl. Y/n says.
"Hmm then I think You better sit this one out Lion." Steven comments as Y/n helps him climb off of Lion.
Steven's brow furrows as he starts jumping across the chunks of earth too ahead of Y/n.
"Okay, Y/n had a talk with Lion, he's gonna, uh, chill out here, uh, we're alone now, nice and private.
Pearl ignores Steven continuing to jump higher, while Steven struggles to catch up.
"Good idea, I'll meet you at the top." Steven eventually arrives at the top-most chunk. Pearl stands on a huge platform, separated by a large gap in between Steven and her.
"This is really hard to do in sandals." Steven chuckles.
"Go away!"
"Pearl! Did I... did we do something wrong? You got to tell me!" Steven attempts to jump across the gap to reach Pearl, but falls when he sees her anguished face.
"STEVEN!" Y/n and Pearl both cry in worry.
Steven quickly grabs onto a root of the platform at the last second and Y/n gives a running jump as he leap over to the platform then leans over to help Steven as he climbs back up pulling him up.
"PEARL! Pearl, you have to tell me what's wrong."
"Sometimes, you even sound like her... Do you remember this place? Do you have any of her memories? We were right here, over 5,000 years ago." Pearl summons a hologram of Rose Quartz and begins to reenact an encounter with her.
"Pearl..." Holo Rose says with Pearl voicing her.
"Yes?" Pearl answers.
"I'm going to stay and fight for this planet. You don't have to do this with me." Holo-Rose tells her.
"But I want to!" Pearl says.
"I know you do. Please, please understand if we lose, we'll be killed, and if we win, we can never go home." Holo-Rose says now.
"But why would I ever want to go home, if you're here?" Pearl says back and Holo-Rose chuckles and offers her hand to Pearl.
"My Pearl." Holo-Rose says.
"You're wonderful..." Pearl says as she grasps Holo-Rose's hand, and the hologram disappears soon after.
Pearl looks down now. "Everything I ever did, I did for her. Now she's gone, but I'm still here. Sometimes, I wonder if she can see me through your eyes." Pearl sighs. "What would she think of me now?"
Steven struggles to comprehend her feelings and he looks up at Y/n who nods at him.
"...I think she would think you're pretty great." Steven says and Pearl begins to tear up .
Y/n kneeled beside her now. "You know, My mom didn't tell me or my dad she was ill for quite a long time. It wasn't until she was told she wouldn't live much longer that she told us. It shattered my dad's heart and devastated me when we found out... My point is Pearl, that sometimes the people we care about most hide secrets from us because they don't want to hurt us. It doesn't mean it's the right thing to do but they just can't stand to see us hurt and upset. So we have to keep going and be strong for them, Even if they can't see it. I don't anything about Steven's mom, but I'm sure she would be proud of you. All of you. Because I know I am." Y/n says but Pearl surprises him as she begins holding onto Y/n as she cries.
The three eventually return back to Lion, and Pearl helps Steven return Rose's Sword back into Lion's mane. Steven pulls out a top hat and does a magic trick with Lion's mane for Pearl. Steven then jumps into Lion and comes back out with Rose's Battle Flag. Pearl, unheard, tells a story to Steven and Y/n while holding her flag proudly.
Steven, Y/n and Pearl then ride on Lion back home, while Pearl hoists the flag over her shoulder.
And that's the chapter! Sorry it's a shorter one I wanted to make sure I didn't take away Steven and Pearl's moment but wanted Y/n to be involved obviously. Hopefully you guys liked it though. Were getting pretty close to the end of Season one's episodes now and that's when it starts getting really good in my eyes. If you liked this chapter or just the story in general then don't forget to leave a vote and a comment below as it really helps! I shall see you all next week in...

An eye that serves a purpose but nothing in exchange for his freedom. Will he remain as a tool of his adversary or escape from his own shackles of fate? This is a story of two old men trying to free from the shackle of their destiny set in a future only to await their impending doom. And as their stories go, one of them will face the events that unfold in their distant past, as the other one will unveil its mystery predicted by its future. Is it a mistake to challenge fate, after all? *** The world-building is set upon on the universal scale, with dungeon and old-style fantasy. It has a progression that follows with the consistency of a dungeon setting, although it's not what you call a dungeon, but a function of a crystal. There's a lot to take in this novel, but that's all within my intention. I have always enjoyed challenging conventional ideas. The cover is not mine, it's just temporary.
