《Life and Death | THE ORIGINALS [2]》The Brothers That Care Forgot

I slowly open my eyes and see Klaus not there. I sit up with a yawn and smile. Last night was amazing. I'm happy I told him. I stand up, grabbing some clothes and walking to the shower.
After I'm done, I do my hair and get dressed in a red, black and white dress while throwing on a leather jacket.
I walk down stairs and hear Klaus talking. "We arrive into this world as innocents, wide-eyed, vulnerable. It is the job of our parents to nurture and protect us. Unfortunately, our own parents failed miserably at even the most basic of parental tasks, but we are not beholden to the past they created for us." I walk in seeing the 4 brothers eating at the table. "Today, a new future awaits. Forget your animosity toward Elijah and myself, and instead join us against she who truly deserved your ire...our mother. Do this, and we will welcome you with open arms."
"Well..." Kol says gong to grab something but Elijah pulls it back.
"But if you continue to oppose us, a denial of pastries will be the least of your concerns." Klaus smiles at them.
"Good morning." I say and walk to the table to grab a glass of orange juice.
Klaus stands up and kisses my cheek. "Good morning, love."
"If all you wanted was my allegiance against mother dearest, you should have said so, save me a night shackled to the wall." Kol said annoyed.
"This was Niklaus. My recommendation was to remove your limbs one by one until you comply." Elijah says making Klaus laugh and me chuckle.
"Heh. We've-we've no desire to torture you," Klaus says in between laughs making me look at him in confusion. They don't? Klaus walks behind them and puts his hand on their shoulders. "Provided you vow to stand beside us as brothers."
"Brothers." Finn nods. "Does that word even apply to us after all these centuries of betrayal, and is loyalty to you ever really rewarded? If so, tell me Niklaus, where is our sister Rebekah? She was blindly loyal to you for a thousand years, and now nowhere to be found. Where did our sister go, and how did she escape your vile machinations."
Klaus laughs and turns around to face him as i tense slightly. Klaus told me he gave Hope to Rebekah. "You think me vile? Well, what then, do you make of the one who cursed us?" He asks sitting down.
"She was trying to make you mortal again, and you both refused her. Only proves how far you've fallen, but I expect Rebekah will have a different response to her proposal. See, unlike the two of you, she always did cling to her humanity." Finn rambles.
"Rebekah's off limits, too. You pursue her, and you will suffer." Elijah says to him angrily.
"Do not let him goad you, Elijah. Neither he nor Esther will find Rebekah unless she wants to be found, and she does not." Klaus tells him.
"Esther is quite determined. She's been searching for Rebekah since the day she returned. I imagine it's only a matter of time." Finn says making Elijah stand up and grab Finn by the neck and dragging him across the table and bite into his neck.
I follow Klaus and Elijah and see Klaus pin Elijah to the wall as Elijah puts his hands up. "I enjoy a good bloodletting as much as anyone," Klaus let's him go and takes his handkerchief, handing it to him. "But our brothers have power, as well as knowledge of Esther's plans. We need them alive."

"Can you imagine what they would do to Rebekah, to hope?" Elijah asks quietly.
"Rebekah has been cloaked by powerful magic. Focus on task at hand. We need to persuade our brothers." Klaus whispers to him.
"I'm through with persuasion." Elijah goes to walk towards then but I stop him with a worried look.
"Has the earth shifted on its axis, you needing restraint from us?" I ask as Elijah's phone rings. He looks at me taken back before be answers it and turns around.
"Tell her to head west. I'll call Hayley." Klaus says.
"Do not tell Hayley." I say abruptly with wide eyes.
Elijah hangs up with a sigh. "Go. I'll take care of Finn and Kol."
"Splendid, and in your hands, I assume they'll be dead by nightfall." Klaus says to him.
"I will show restraint." Elijah puts his hand up against the wall. "Hope needs her father."
"What she needs, what...what we need are allies to help us defeat our mother. Finn and Kol must be turned to our side. Without their help, there will be no where left for hope to run." Klaus argues.
"Klaus, your child..." Elijah shakes his head.
"I have waited months to see my daughter. I can wait one more day." He says with a sad look. "Elijah. Do whatever it takes to keep her safe."
"I give you my word." Elijah Promises and leaves.
Klaus was taking a call so I walked back to the dining room and took a seat. "Elijah's off his bloody rocker. We need to get out of here." Kol says and looks to Finn. "Are you gonna help me or what?"
"If you were a little more clever, you would recognize that there's opportunity in our current circumstances." Finn says monotone.
"Opportunity to what, get a beating?" Kol says in alarm.
"He's right. The longer you guys stay, the more Klaus will make it painful." I shrug while eating a pastry.
Just then Klaus walks in. "Gentlemen, I apologize for keeping to you waiting. Good news is I have returned with an old friend, someone who wants to say hello."
I furrow my eyebrows and watch curiously. My dad then walks in with a smile and a laugh. "Hello. How's it going, fellas?"
"Ah. You again. You ever get bored of getting bullied by my brother?" Kol asks which makes me Dad and Klaus chuckle.
"Hi daddy." I smile and stand up kissing his cheek.
"Daddy?" Kol asks. I nod with a smirk.
"Oh, I volunteered for this." My dad says taking his jacket off.
"Did you?" Kol asks with an amused look.
"Yeah. The way I see it, you have it coming." Dad smiles at him. He pushes Kols chest as he talks. "First, you did something to my daughter. Second, you messed with Davina. Now, I hear you want to drag Rebekah into all this. Uh-uh. Not happening." I look at my dad surprised. I didn't tell him about my magic fading. How did he know?
"Well, I'd prefer you both to join me against our mother, but I'll happily settle for one or the other. Either way, if you continue to defy me, your lives will be reduced to an unending sequence of agonizing torture. So...which is it to be?"
*
I follow my dad upstairs as he drags Kol with him. "I gotta say I'm gonna enjoy this." He throws Kol into the chair roughly and continues talking. "Out of the whole twisted family...sit down...you are the one that I like the least."

"Yeah? Well, there's a pretty young lady who disagrees with that opinion." Kol says which makes me grow angry.
"Then let us make ourselves perfectly clear. You go near Davina again, and I'm gonna cut off parts of you that you'd rather keep." I say angrily.
"Ahh. More threats again. How bloody inventive. Thing is, Klaus needs me, so that backs you into a bit of a corner, doesn't it?" Kol asks smugly.
"No. It doesn't." I shake my head.
"Well, until we get rid of your mom. I wonder what happens then." Dad says.
"Well, Klaus might not need me when my mothers gone but you might. Come on, Marcel. You were the king of the city once. You really think he's just gonna give it back to you?" Kol asks which makes me look at my dad.
Dad starts to laugh. "You always got an angle, don't you?"
"You see, individually, we can't do anything, but together, well, Klaus wouldn't stand a chance." I glare at Kol wishing at this moment Elijah was here.
"Probably not, but then I'd have to trust you, and I don't." Dad says picking up a letter opener and hiding it in his hand. "At least with Klaus, I know exactly what I'm getting."
Kol tilts his head. "I thought you had more fortitude, Marcellus. You disappoint me."
Dad bends down closer to him. "Nobody cares for you opinion." I chuckle from my spot as he says that. "Klaus just wants to know what your up to. Tell me everything, maybe you'll get to live. If not..." Dad then shoves the letter opener through Kols hand as he screams.
*
After all that I left the two of them and snuck out of the compound for a bit. I went to the cemetery and walked to where Klaus kept Esther. My heels click against the tomb floor and I hear shuffling.
"Hello Esther." I say and see her weak body looking at me.
"What are you doing here?" She asks.
"I'm here to get what you stole." I walk closer and crouch down in front of her, watching as she cowers away. "I don't know what your doing but give me my magic back."
She starts to laugh weakly. "That's not possible."
"What do you mean?" I ask confused.
"When you died, there was war. War against you, your father, my sons, against the city. You died and weren't able to grieve yourself. It made you weak, weak enough for me to start draining your magic. That mark on your arm. Luctus. It's Latin for mourning. You were mourning yourself and as you were it gave me an opportunity." My eyes had tears in them.
"Your lying. There has to be a way to get it back!" I yell at her but she just shakes her head with a smile.
"Soon, every little bit of your magic will just be gone. You won't be part witch." Esther tells me.
"Why are you doing this?" I cry and stand up when she doesn't say anything. I leave the tomb and the cemetery all together, making my way back to the compound.
*
I was in my room when I hear crashing coming from downstairs. I hear a scream, Davinas scream. I immediately get up and run downstairs and see Klaus biting Davina. I was about to throw him off of her but he stops and falls to the ground unconscious.
"Davina?" I ask which makes her look at me. "Are you okay?" I walk to her and bite into my wrist letting her drink it. I look down and Klaus and bend down. "What did you do to him?"
"It's impressive." Kol says to her as I sit by Klaus. "What exactly did you do to him?"
"Channeled dark objects, turned my blood to poison." She says. I frown. Davina is my family and I love her to death but the Mikaelsons are my family too, Klaus...I love him too. "How did you get free?"
"Yes, How did you get free?" I ask angrily while standing up. "I'll be more than happy to put those shackles back on you."
"Oh it's a long story. Better question is if he's not dead, then what are you gonna do when we recovers?" Kol asks looking at his body.
"We have an hour, maybe less, enough time to chain him, bleed him, dump him in the river." Davina says.
"No." I say which causes her to look my way. "No."
"That's a bit harsh, isn't it?" Kol asks her.
"Since when do you two care what happens to Klaus?" Davina asks as my dad wakes up from his snapped neck.
"Kol is with us now and Maddison is with Klaus." I look at him with a glare. "We're gonna be going up against Esther, assuming Klaus is upright."
"Look, Nik...he's a pain in the ass, but, well, she's a problem for us all." Kol tells her.
"Klaus is the problem." She argues. "I don't give a damn what happens to Esther."
"Well, I sure do." I say as well as Cami who just entered the compound. "Should I even ask?" Cami asks looking at Klaus' body.
"Cami, you should go. It's not safe."
"No kidding. I woke up with puncture wounds all up and down my spine and no idea how they got there. According to my uncles files, their a part of this ancient spell, and I don't know about you guys but when I see 'ancient' and 'spell' in the same sentence, I think Esther."
"I agree with Cami. Esther needs to go." I tell them.
"Yeah, that's mums work alright." Kol tells us looking at the marks on Cami's back. "She must have wiped your memory."
"Not the first time that's been done by a member of this family." Cami says referring to the whole Klaus compelling her thing. "What does it mean?"
"It's a byproduct of a preparation spell." I furrow my eyebrows.
"Preparation for what?" I ask from my spot on the floor beside Klaus.
"To make her a vessel." Davina and Cami look at Kol a little confused as I sigh.
"He means Esther prepared your body for someone to jump into." Dad says as Cami's face drops.
"Likely herself. I mean, knowing mother." Me and my dad glare at Kol.
"Where's Vincent?" Cami asks before my dad lets her go see him.
*
"How long do I have?" Cami asks Kol.
"Well, now that Esther knows where Rebekah's hiding, not long." Kol responds. "The only way to stop it is to stop her."
"Then do it." I speak up from the chair I'm sitting on, as everyone looks at me. "She's your mother, and everyone in this room knows that you know what she's done. To me, to Cami. She brought you back, you knew of some of her plans."
"She's right. Let's do this." Cami says looking at me. "Marcel's a vampire, you both are powerful witches and Maddie's a hybrid."
"Esther's stronger than anything I've ever seen. We go up against her, we're gonna need Klaus." Dad says and my eyes light up.
"No. No. We can do this without him." Davina says standing up.
"I'm never gonna say this again, but Marcel's right." Kol speaks up as I turn to him in slight surprise at his words. "We do need the bastard."
"Davina..." Cami trails off walking toward her. "I know this is asking a lot, but please." I carefully watch the exchange between the two and grow upset.
First, because Cami's voice is basically begging and i have a feeling it doesn't have to fully be about what Esther did to her.
And second, the way Davina looks at her. With such a soft look that I know she's gonna give in. I know I spent a lot of time with the Mikaelsons but has everything really changed that much?
I snap out of my thoughts and see Davina walk over to Klaus and bend down. She looks over at us before she starts chanting. Once she's done, Klaus gasps amd rolls over with a groan. I stand up and walk over to him as he sits up confused. "What did you do to me?"
"All you need to know is that I beat you, again." Davina says smugly.
"And yet you relented, which means you need me, don't you?" Klaus smirks at her. "Did I really lose?"
*
I hear Klaus yelling at Finn from downstairs and slowly make my way down. "Marcel! Bring it in." I watch as my dad drags a coffin in through the doors and Finn stars begging Klaus.
"No, Niklaus." His face is filled with fear and dread, it makes me feel sorry for him.
"Oh don't worry, brother. I made some air holes, small ones." Klaus throws him in the coffin as Finn yells and my dad closes while locking it.
Klaus starts to walk off and I follow him to make sure he's okay but Hayley walks in. "Klaus, have you seen Elijah? There's something I have to tell you both."
Klaus walks past her going to leave. "You can tell me on the way."
"What? Where are we going?" Hayley asks confused.
Klaus stops walking and turns to look at her. "To see our daughter." Hayley's face shows shock written all over it and they both start walking away as I follow.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
