《Azure Chronicles》Chapter 85: Null Gem Slam-dunk

Zalroth stopped a few feet away from Kyubi and stabbed the bottom of the Crescent Moon Staff into the ground; he let go of the staff and it remained standing on its own. Zalroth clicked his shoulder and commented on how his shoulders felt sore as he gazed up at Kyubi's mana core with a concerned stare.
"So, what compelled you to go out of your way to give the love of your life a heart attack?" Chronia lazily asked as she wrapped some of Zalroth's tail fur around her neck. Zalroth was about to tell her his reasoning before pausing when something occurred to him.
"Were you being rhetorical or sarcastic?" Zalroth asked with Chronia amusedly smirking. Chronia opened one of her eyes and cheekily stuck her tongue out. Zalroth told Chronia to be serious with Chronia telling him she's always serious before she took a long sniff of Zalroth's tail fur around her neck.
"To answer you're question, I heard a voice which lead me to realise someone was inside the monster's mana core," Zalroth stated while Chronia nodded her head and hummed as she listened to Zalroth. Chronia remarked so it wasn't anything out of the ordinary for Zalroth right before Zalkutaro landed next to the duo.
"So would you like us...," Zalkutaro managed to say before Kunai and Xelphia exhaustedly slumped onto Zalkutaro's shoulders, followed by the red and pink judgment chains around Kyubi to crumble away. Zalkutaro perplexedly darted his head between the ego and visage on his shoulders before looking back at Zalroth.
"... me to release the Judgment Chains on the slime heathian?" Zalkutaro asked as he placed Kunai and Xelphia on Zalroth's tails. Zalroth said the judgment chains probably won't be needed anymore and asked Zalkutaro if he could dispel them. Zalkutaro nodded his head and clapped his hands together before the black judgement chains popped into magic dust. Zalkutaro asked Zalroth if he wanted his help but Zalroth said he can handle it on his own.
"Suit yourself, I'll go deal with the mess you made over there," Zalkutaro mentioned; he jogged over to Zuno and Luna as Luna was inspecting the aether-infused blood with a comedically large handheld magnifying glass made of blue mana. Zalroth clicked his neck and turned around when he heard Kyubi's slime body begin to move again. Zalroth closed his right eye and quietly snickered to himself.
"Alright, I think it's about time I get serious," Zalroth remarked as he opened his right eye, which pupil had morphed into the shape of a glowing lime heart. Zalroth grabbed the Crescent Moon Staff and as he pulled it out of the ground the staff's coloured shifted to a glowing lime. Zalroth held the Crescent Moon Staff horizontally in front of himself as Kyubi's movements became more expressive.

Multiple of Kyubi’s tendrils slammed the ground directly in front of Zalroth and kicked up some dust as they repeatedly tried to strike Zalroth. The tendrils eventually relented and motionlessly laid on the ground. Zalroth stepped to the side of the tendrils before scratching the back of his head with the Crescent Moon Staff.
“It seems you missed,” Zalroth half-heartedly said as he poked one of the tendrils, making it wiggle a bit as small bubbles formed every time the staff touched it. Zalroth halted his poking, as the tendril started jiggling on its own. The tendril’s wobbling became aggressively violent before it instantly swung and slammed into Zalroth. A mist of purple slime particles exploded around Zalroth and the slime tendril, now missing the end of it, rushed past Zalroth.
Zalroth fanned the mist away from himself with wind magic as he shielded himself with a golden-coloured magic shield. Chronia slowly moved her hands and peeked through her fingers; the second she registered what happened, Chronia puffed up her cheeks and embarrassedly shook Zalroth while asking him what he just created.
“Just a bit of caesium, fluorine, lithium and-” Zalroth remarked before Chronia abruptly and strongly pressed her forehead into Zalroth’s shoulder.
“Are you just going to list the five most reactive elements?” Chronia unamusedly asked. Zalroth awkwardly looked away from Chronia and loudly whistled as he dispelled the magic shield. Chronia asked him to finish his sentence and as he jumped over a tendril swing Zalroth stated the last thing was water; Zalroth then started to go on about how he was worried if he used pure oxygen then the explosion would've been more flammable but her was cut off by Chronia defeatedly sighing.
"Could you just hurry up and cure them or whatever, I feel my energy draining from my body every second I'm not using you as an adorable neck massager," Chronia said with a serious expression before she let out a deep sigh.
Zalroth rolled his eyes and skipped around as Kyubi tried to strike him with a barrage of fireballs. Zalroth slashed through the fireballs with a single slash, but the fireballs were quickly replenished and even increased in quantity. Zalroth clicked his tongue before he slammed the base of the Crescent Moon Staff and generated a tornado of bright lime mana formed around him.
The fireballs careened for Zalroth but abruptly exploded midair when a storm of white null gem spears pierced through them. The lime mana collected bundled together before condensing and morphing into white null gem spears. Zalroth snapped his fingers and the white null gem spears blasted off for Kyubi. The slime tendrils merged and solidified into a shield before the white null gem spears punctured the shield. The solidified shield rapidly dissolved the white null gems as they absorbed mana from kyubi’s body causing it to begin to desaturate and slightly crumble away.

“I’d say using white null gems is second only to using light and holy magic when trying to deal with heathians,” Chronia remarked, before lightly chuckling as she mentioned she doesn’t even want to think at how expensive that last attack would have been if Zalroth had to buy them. Zalroth joked he’d have a better chance at finding The Devourer Blade than being able to collect enough money to pay for the necessary amount of null gems to clear out a small country of heathians.
Zalroth raised his free hand before the lime mana tornado swirled into his palm and condensed into a perfect sphere. The sphere shone and quickly morphed into a large white null gem that floated above Zalroth’s palm. The sun tattoos, on Zalroth’s hands, activated into their second stages before gushing out tones of black and white mana particles before reverting to their inactive first stage state. Zalroth crammed the mana particles into the white null gem and passed it over his head and into Chronia’s hands.
Zalroth’s eye and the Crescent Moon Staff reverted to their normal colours. Zalroth looked at Chronia and the two confidently nodded at each other before Zalroth sprinted at Kyubi, as a jagged line started to form on Kyubi's body. The line became more prominent before the jagged line split horizontally in half and formed into a giant mouth. Kyubi howled before they unleashed a storm of magical attacks and tendril whip attacks.
Zalroth weaved and evaded the storm of attacks while blocking a few of the projectiles with magic barriers, that he dispelled the second he moved away from them. As he rushed for Kyubi, Kyubi opened their mouth before all the projectiles suddenly rushed past Zalroth and flew into their mouth. Zalroth stopped in his tracks and pulled his tails back as the fire and lightning mana merged together into a massive plasma sphere.
Zalroth held his Crescent Moon Staff to his side before beginning to also gather fire and cyan lightning mana into the arched moon top of the staff. The separate elemental mana merged into a super-condensed red plasma ball. Kyubi screeched at Zalroth and unleashed an explosive plasma beam; Zalroth smirked and fired a counter plasma beam from the plasma ball.
The plasma beams smashed into each other and shot out tones of magic plasma particles as they grinded away at each other. As the two plasma beams continued to clash, the mana core inside Kyubi's body rotated upwards when something was flung into the air from behind Zalroth. A magic barrier appeared mid-air before Chronia landed on it. Chronia confidently raised the large, which looked super large in comparison to Chronia, white null gem sphere over her head and coated the null gem in lime mana before pulling her arm back.
"Get Served!" Chronia confidently yelled as she hurled the null gem down at Kyubi like a basketball player. Kyubi abruptly stopped firing their plasma beam, with Zalroth also stopping his own plasma beam, and formed a solidified shield between them and the null gem.
The null gem effortlessly pierced through the solidified slime shield, making it explode into desaturated clumps, and barreled at a freakishly blitzing speed. Kyubi repeatedly tried to block the null gem with slime tendrils, only for them to be turned into desaturated slime that crumbled into dust.
Kyubi attempted to fire another plasma beam before it abruptly burst away as the sound of Zalkutaro whistling echoed through the cavern, and the null gem was close to striking Kyubi. The null gem punctured through the top of Kyubi's head before slowly sinking through the slime as it rapidly desaturated the slime. Zalroth raised his hand and stared at Kyubi's mana core as Chronia landed on Zalroth's tails.
"If I wasn't in a rush I would've taken a more gentle approach but what can you do," Zalroth remarked before he snapped his fingers. As the white null gem floated next to Kyubi's mana core, the null gem bit by bit transformed into a black null gem; the null gem instantly started to crack and small golden yellow mana beams shot out from the cracks.
The null gem violently shook before snapping in half and, in a split second, exploded into a raging explosion. Kyubi's body violently recoiled and screeched as giant beams exploded out of their body. The golden mana quickly spread throughout the entirety of Kyubi's body before a blinding flash completely engulfed the cavern.
