Awakening 2.16 - That time I was reincarnated in another world and met some hot anime babe paladins
I stared at the assembled group of anime babe paladins, marveling in the rainbow array of hair colors on display. A purple-haired catgirl, a tall woman with long pink hair, a shorter girl with long white hair, and even a rabbit-beastfolk with blue hair! I looked at the rest of the visually distinct and equally attractive paladins that I'd gotten bored of describing. With this many hot babes, I was basically guaranteed to have one of them fall madly in love with me!
This could be my big chance! An opportunity to increase my harem by one or more anime babes! Still... which one(s) did I want to shoot for? I immediately opened up [Mental Powerpoint] and started to make a presentation on 'The Benefits of Being in my Harem'.
I was sorting through the ClipArt search results for 'boobies' when a warm, sultry voice instantly drew my attention. The older woman in robes had placed her hand on her cheek, just below her beauty mark.
"My, my," she said, a warm smile on her face. (TL Note: "My, my," means "Ara, ara.")
"It looks like I managed to break the curse, after all. I had been starting to fret a bit."
"We knew you could do it!" one of the Paladins reassured her.
"[Mother] Margaret is the best [Cursebreaker] this side of the Femoral River!" another boasted to me. "She can even cure [Sugandese Fever]!" I nodded as if I understood what the hell she was saying.
"That's sugoi as hell and all, but... what am I doing here? How did I get here?" I asked.
The older woman, who I assumed was [Mother] Margaret (since she had the biggest breasts and was the size of an average human mother) furrowed her brow at me, worry framing her face.
"Arara... of course, you probably don't remember, do you?" She rubbed her cheek with an open hand, crossing her other arm under her chest to support her elbow. This lady... either her head was suddenly getting really heavy, or she was legitimately worried about me.
She was worried about me! What a [Saint]! If she was concerned for me, did that also mean that she l-l-l-liked me?! I gulped a big mouthful of nervous spit down and started blushing.

"Do you happen to remember anything? Do you know how you were cursed?"
A... curse? This was at least the first or second time she'd mentioned something like that. What did she mean? I thought back over the several seconds I'd spent in my [Time Slow] space. When had I been cursed?
Suddenly, it came to me! That strange blurring, the weird light show that happened when I activated it. That wasn't an activation effect at all! Somebody had cursed me!
My blood ran cold. That could only have meant... that somebody had been WAITING for me to drop my guard. Somebody had been watching us the entire time? But... that would mean...
Skill Obtained: [Paranoid - Lvl 1]
A new skill! Score! I activated it, and instantly, the threads began to connect themselves in my head.
That would mean that there was somebody who could watch me without triggering any of my detection-related skills! While it's true that I usually toggled my skills on and off at random whenever I got bored, I was pretty sure at least one of them was on when I activated [Time Slow]!
I shivered, looking around suspiciously. Was I... being watched right now? I glanced at the 6-10 Paladins watching me. No, I mean, besides them.
"I... I'm not sure," I admitted, deciding to be honest because it seemed like something Paladins would be into.
"That's unfortunate..." [Mother] Margaret sighed. "Your [Elf] [Party Member] was too shellshocked to talk about it. I suppose she was upset that we weren't able to restore her injuries. And the Animal-ears-person-folk was..."
Wait a second... What was that?! Bonbon was hurt?!
I leapt to my feet, twisting vertically at the ankle like a vampire in a classic movie. The paladins jumped back in shock and probably arousal at my immense core strength.
"Bonbon is hurt?!" I said, out loud this time.
I quickly jumped over the Paladins, somersaulting through the air as I dashed to the door. There was no time to wait! I skipped the stairs entirely, running up the wall of the spiral staircase to shave 0.36 seconds off my personal best time. My heart was pounding in my chest, but not out of physical exertion. I was in excellent shape. It was pounding out of worry.
I realized after several minutes of running and shouting through the hallowed halls of the [Paladin] Order that I had no idea where Bonbon was. I hesitated and took in my surroundings.
I was in a long stone hallway, decorated with various tapestries depicting the [Gods], Kamiko principal among them. There was an alternating pattern of tapestries and tall windows leading out to an inner courtyard, where a lady Paladin was tending to a vegetable garden.
I stared at the closest tapestry, which depicted Kamiko making a divine pose, standing on one foot with a microphone in one hand, her other hand lifted to her face, fingers curled as if she was either signing "I love you" or trying to shoot web at the ceiling. About half of her infinite eyes were closed.
I shook my head, collecting the tapestry into my [Dimensional Box] because it looked unique enough to probably be a Collectible and worth an achievement. But now wasn't the time for this! I had more important things to worry about than my 100% completion run!
I quickly activated [Instantly Learn Skill] and learned [Elf Detection], activating it at once. Instantly, several glowing figures appeared through the walls, like some cool heat vision effect. I counted ten purple figures at varying distances and directions, before running out of fingers.

This was getting me nowhere! I activated [Instantly Learn Skill] again and learned [Chef Detection], activating both skills at once. Aha! There! I quickly ran directly towards the ping, activating [Noclip] to run straight through the walls.
Hold on, Bonbon-chan! I'm coming!
Bonbon A. Petit sat on her cot, staring at her knife roll, which she had spread out onto the small writing table that sat on the other side of the meager dormitory room. The only other pieces of furniture in the room were an empty bookshelf and a collectible statuette lamp of Kamiko. She was wearing a green [Martial Artist] gi, and holding a [Light Orb] above her head like a [Spirit Bomb].
The [Paladins] had been nice enough to give Bonbon a room, even after the stuff Wanda did. It made sense. They were here to help the [Paladins], so it would be odd for them to be treated poorly. Ciel had escorted them here, and then seen herself off to tend to her usual duties.
With Wanda... indisposed, Bonbon had been left alone with her thoughts. She was doing a quick inventory to distract herself, checking to make sure everything was still accounted for in her [Knife Roll of Holding].
Chef knives accounted for. Paring knives... she was missing the one she'd thrown at the raider, but it was one of her cheap ones. Fileting knives, good. Bread knife. Honing steel...
She glanced down at the stump of her left arm. They hadn't had anybody capable of casting [Regeneration] when they arrived. And nobody had arrived in the next two days either.
Shears. Utility knife. Serrated knife. Whetstone...
They did have a [Cursebreaker] arriving soon, though. None of the [Paladins] had been able to do anything to remove Hiro's weird time-paralysis. They'd at least figured out that it was probably some kind of time effect, after observing him for a day or so.
Measuring cups. Kitchen Shovel. Measuring spoons...
They weren't sure if they would be able to bring Hiro back. Bonbon's stomach clenched. She was hoping that they'd be able to bring Hiro back. He would... he'd be able to fix her arm, she was sure. If he couldn't... or if they couldn't wake him, then...
Saucepot. Microplane. Macroplane. Potato peeler. Cocktail shaker. Meat grinder.
Well, there were always [Skills]. The [Regeneration] skill could heal a missing limb over the course of a few months. [Regeneration] cost 600 Skill Points. Some people could go their entire lives without getting that many points. But... Hiro would probably be able to heal her.
If he woke up.
She sighed, lifting the hand-cranked shaved ice machine from her knife roll to make sure it hadn't gotten dinged up during the fight. Whatever Hiro had done, she didn't think it was a [Curse], so she wasn't sure if [Cursebreaker] could even fix it. If only she had... some kind of sign as to whether he would-
I exploded through the wall, sending bricks and dust flying into the room. Bonbon leapt backwards, shrieking as she shrank into the corner. Ah, dang it. I'd turned off [Noclip] a little early. I cast [Wind - Lvl 10] to dust myself off and rushed towards Bonbon, instantly appraising her, with my eyes.
She had a terrified look on her face, and didn't look injured. So what? My eyes fell on her arm, and I froze. That... that must have been the injury that [Mommy] lady had been talking about. I stood up straight, then let out a sigh of relief.
"Thank goodness," I sighed. "I was worried the injury might have been to your face."
"H-huh?" Bonbon stared at me, her face a complex mix of surprise and either fear or arousal. "H-Hiro-san?! You're awake!"
I nodded to her, grinning a smile as I calmly brushed half a brick from my lapel. "I managed to break the [Curse]," I told her. "How did you get injured? Was it the [Demon Lord]?"
"N-no. We were attacked by [Valley Elves]. It was a raiding party. You were frozen, but we managed to hold them off. Pareiso-san... um, that is, one of the [Paladins] rescued us."
I blinked in surprise. "Wait, are you saying I missed a bunch of hot busty elf raiders?"
Bonbon opened her mouth once, then closed it, frowning. "I... I didn't say anything about them being bu... well-endowed."
I shook my head. "It's alright, you didn't need to. I have a 13th sense about these kind of things."
She stared at me in silence, impressed beyond comprehension.
"Where is Wanda?" I asked. "Did she get hurt too?
"Wanda-san?" Bonbon asked. "N-no, she's okay. Um... well, actually..." She hesitated, cocking her head to the side as she thought about it. "I mean, she's... in trouble. But not in danger at all. I think she..."
She paused, coming to some kind of realization and fixing me with a stern look. "If I tell you where she is, are you going to go smashing through more walls?"
"No," I lied.
"She's currently arrested, for... well, a few things, really. But I don't think she's in any danger. They're probably just going to fine--"
I couldn't believe this! Wanda was being held prisoner?! Suddenly, realization hit me again. Who was the first person I'd seen when I woke up? The [Paladins]. And I was missing my sword. Who had 'rescued' Bonbon? A [Paladin].
This was too many coincidences. And now they had Bonbon kept in this filthy hovel with loose bricks and rubble all over the place? And Wanda was being held in a literal cage like an animal? No way. (TL Note: No way means nai wa). We'd walked right into their trap!
I'd been to naive to think that we could trust the [Paladins] just because they were a religious authority in a fantasy world! They'd secretly been evil all along!
"We have to go save her!" I shouted, out loud, before charging through the nearest intact wall.
"Wait, Hiro-san!" Bonbon shouted after me. "My arm! I, you can... nnngh!" She gave up on saying whatever unimportant thing she'd been talking about, focusing on running at top speed to keep up with my Casual Emergency-speed jog. I quickly learned and activated [Prison Detection] (using [Instantly Learn Skill]) and made a beeline for the nearest gulag.
Don't worry, Wanda! I'm coming!

Someday, he might even – hatch? “CHEEP!?” Things to Know: -Cheep!? Will release on a minimum weekly schedule. -After a backlog of chapters, posting will slow, but in the interim you can expect a chapter a day up until roughly 25 chapters. -This story at times will potentially carry some heavy moments, but the tone is intended to be lighter overall. -There are invisible game-like elements in this story, but nothing so concrete as a dedicated gamelit novel. -I personally have some issues with anxiety, so I may or may not interact with the community a lot. I'll try if anyone has questions, but I can't guarantee that it'll be consistent. -MC is a non-human lead, and will never actually become human. Romance will potentially happen between side-characters, but not with the MC. -MC IS NOT THE ONLY VIEW POINT. I have to put that out there because people sometimes hate alternate PoV's in a story. None of them will be filler, and they'll be there only to give a little bit more nuance and meaning to the world that the MC has stepped in, or is about to be imminently important. I'll try to keep them down, but this also helps to prevent me from burning out getting trapped in one view. -Most of all, I hope that this story is enjoyable to you, and that you have a great time reading it! -Written by Michael Adams, Cowritten/Edited by Summer Kent
